  • Kosofe APC leaders: Tinubu is the answer in 2023

Kosofe APC leaders: Tinubu is the answer in 2023

All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders from Kosofe sub-zone, Lagos State, yesterday drummed support for the presidential ambition of the National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Governance Advisory Council (GAC) members, who witnessed the rally organised by the Tinubu Support Group at Ojota, described the former Lagos State governor as the most competent person to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Eminent leaders, including Senator Tony Adefuye, Senator Seye Ogunleye, one-time Finance Commissioner Wale Edun, Chief Akanni Seriki and House of Representatives member Prince Rotimi Agunsoye said Tinubu would resolve the challenges confronting the country.

Agunsoye, who convened the meeting, said Tinubu had paid his dues, adding that he would be a good president. The chieftains also endorsed him (Agunsoye) for another term in the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly.

However, the leaders noted that many people were yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), warning that lack of the cards would disqualify them from voting.

When Edun asked those who had collected their cards to raise up their hands, the leaders were surprised that half of those at the rally had not registered with the electoral commission.

Urging them to obtain their PVCs, the GAC member assured them that their support for Tinubu and APC would not be in vain.

Edun, who hailed the resilience of Kosofe people, said it is the turn of the Southwest to produce the next president and only Tinubu, who knows the way, can fit into the role.

He said the party leaders were assiduously campaigning for Tinubu because they knew that he would empower youths.

Ogunlewe lamented that while six million registered to vote in the last election, only one million voted, adding that the voting pattern must change in 2023.

Acknowledging the attempts by other likely aspirants from the Southwest, the former Works Minister said Tinubu was the most competent and experienced leader to vie from the Southwest.

Epe APC leader Seriki advised the people to register to vote and also maintain their support for Agunsoye.

Adefuye said those from Southwest jostling for the APC ticket were groomed by Tinubu, adding that they could not turn round to oppose the man that raised them to stardom.

  • Committee took oath to favour Bamire as VC, Ife community alleges

Committee took oath to favour Bamire as VC, Ife community alleges

Ile-Ife indigenes yesterday alleged that oath was administered on members of the Selection Committee to appoint Prof. Adebayo Bamire as the 12th Vice Chancellor (VC) of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

The indigenes, through its union, Ife Progressive Forum, at a news conference held at the Community Hall, Enuwa, Ile-Ife, addressed by the President, Dr. Famoriyo Gbolade, alleged that the process was schemed in favour of Prof. Bamire.

He alleged that there was a corrupt manipulation of the vital process of scoring and assessing aspirants to the VC position by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Owelle Oscar Udoji, with the connivance of other members of the committee.

Gbolade added: “The secrecy surrounding the exercise is highly suspicious. There was oath administered on members of the Selection Committee before the interviews were conducted, after, and during the process of compiling the results. The report of the committee to the Council was slated for 2pm, while the announcement of the reports to the public was slated for 3pm of the same Thursday, March 17, 2022. Was the report expected to be automatically approved by the Council?

“Besides, the tradition in the academia is to frontload reports before consideration. Why were the Council members not given the reports at least 24 hours before the meeting, in accordance with academic and administrative practice? On entering the meeting and after necessary protocols, members were given palmtops containing the purported selection reports. They were allowed to hold the palmtops for about 10 minutes, after which the so-called reports were approved. Why will the university withdraw the palmtops from members? Is it that the chairman does not trust members? What is it that must be so guided in a public document? Where is it in our academic practice is Oath of Secrecy agreement from committee members?”

The indigenes appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and Minister of Education Adamu Adamu to look into the process that led to the appointment of Bamire.

OAU spokesman Abiodun Olarewaju denied the allegation that members of the Selection Committee were made to take oath to scheme the process in favour of Bamire.

He said: “There are civilised ways of seeking justice, especially if a process is perceived unjust. We learnt that a petition has been written. So, let’s wait for the outcome. I am not aware there was any oath taking.”

Speaking on behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde at the agreement-signing ceremony, Mrs. Adeosun said the state, through the agreement, is initiating a process that will ensure it (the state) gets the best from the education sector.

She said a study conducted by the Makinde administration, upon assumption of office in 2019, indicated that the state government needed over N40 billion to develop the education sector.

Babalakin said the trustees were happy to pull through the ‘unusual agreement.’

He said: “I want to let you know that you will see a massive transformation of this institution. It will be what the governor wants it to be, the envy of schools in Nigeria.”

Oyetola: my achievements will speak for my re-election
