Safer Internet Day: EFCC tasks parents, others on supervisory role

An investigator at the Economic Financial Crime Commission,  Alex Ogbole has called on parents and other stakeholders to rally around the commission in a bid to eradicate financial crimes especially among young people in the country.

Ogbole said this at the Safer Internet Day organized by the International Centre for Leadership Development Nigeria held recently at the Lagos State Youth House, Yaba, Lagos.

He said that parents and other stakeholders must be alive to their responsibility of instilling good morals of probity, honesty, integrity, and transparency among the youths.

“If you see people you cannot relay their source of income particularly youths to their lifestyle, they ought to be questioned in the society by our older parents”, he said.

He restated the commitment of EFCC stating that we are encouraging every other stakeholder to play their part and in a very short time is going to climax and begin to decline eventually.

He charged youths to desist from crime as they have what it takes to be the best version of themselves. They have education, good loving parents, Nigerians as their country. Cybercrime does not pay. There is a pay day and you will be caught up by the long arm of the law.

Earlier , the Executive Director of the International Center for Leadership Development Nigeria, Felix lziomoh said the programme is aimed at educating young people on the positive use of internet facilities so that they can be better citizens of themselves and society.

He said “at ICLDNG, we are working with various stakeholders to create a platform to raise purposeful young leaders in Nigeria by leveraging technology and helping teenagers to develop the digital skills they need to stay safe online and reposition their mindset thereby using the internet in a positive way. We have hosted several workshops in eight states across Nigeria”.

  • Balogun’s installation likely before mid-March, says Olubadan-in-Council

    Balogun’s installation likely before mid-March, says Olubadan-in-Council

The Olubadan-in-Council has revealed that Dr. Lekan Balogun may be enthroned as the Olubadan of Ibadanland before middle of March.

The Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola, made this disclosure yesterday while briefing reporters after the Council’s maiden meeting held at the Alarere home of the new Ibadan monarch.

The Ibadan Festival will hold mid-March, while Ramadan Fast will begin early April.

He said the position of the Council was based on consideration for the coming Ibadan Festival and Ramadan Fast, which will hold very soon.

The meeting, he said, gave serious consideration in choosing the date for the inauguration.

Ajibola said the meeting, attended by members of the Olubadan-in-Council, except the former governor of the state, Sen. Rashidi Ladoja (Osi Olubadan) and Iyalode of Ibadanland, High Chief Theresa Oladuntan Oyekanmi, was to pay courtesy call on Dr. Balogun and formally congratulate him on his elevation from the position of Otun to that of Olubadan.

“Olubadan has to make a very significant presence at the annual Ibadan Week Festival and having perfected everything necessary for Dr. Balogun’s emergence, we are working to ensure that he features at the programme as the substantive Olubadan.

“Again, we are conscious of Ramadan Fast and would not want to put our guests under unnecessary pressure by holding the inauguration during the period. All these we considered at the meeting, but could not make anything categorical until we meet with Governor Seyi Makinde,” he said.”

He said that the Council resolved at the meeting that a courtesy and ‘thank-you’ visit be made to Governor Makinde for his interest and the speedy time allowed in inauguration of a new Oba for Ibadanland.

“We all visited the governor and despite that we didn’t meet him, we were well received by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun, who promised to convey our message to him,” he said.

On the absence of two of the Council members, the Otun Balogun explained that Iyalode was outside Ibadan, while Sen. Ladoja sought the Council’s permission to honour a medical appointment that had been fixed previously, adding: “He was happy to join our crusade to the new Olubadan and the governor.”

Ahead of the inauguration of Dr. Balogun, High Chief Ajibola said the Council also took note of the necessary promotion and reconstitution of the Olubadan-in-Council occasioned by the elevation of the Otun to the position of Olubadan.

Arising from that, according to him, “is the upward movement of High Chief Rashidi Ladoja (Osi Olubadan) to Otun Olubadan, High Chief Eddy Oyewole (Ashipa) to Osi-Olubadan, High Chief Abiodun Kola-Daisi (Ekerin) to Ashipa Olubadan, High Chief Hamidu Ajibade (Ekarun) to Ekerin Olubadan and the new member that will join the Council is Senior Chief Adebayo Akande from Maye to Ekarun Olubadan.”

The Olubadan designate, Dr. Balogun, presided over the meeting with High Chiefs Owolabi Olakulehin, Tajudeen Ajibola, Lateef Gbadamosi Adebimpe, Kola Adegbola, Olubunmi Isioye and Dauda Agagagugu (Balogun, Otun Balogun, Osi-Balogun, Ashipa Balogun, Ekerin and Ekarun Balogun) in attendance.

Others were High Chiefs Eddy Oyewole (Ashipa Olubadan), Abiodun Kola-Daisi (Ekerin Olubadan) and Hamidu Ajibade (Ekarun).

•Osun govt alleges stockpiling of fake NSCDC uniforms
•Parties sign pact of good conduct with police

The Minister of Interior and former governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, said yesterday that he begged his successor, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, for two years not to fight him or destroy the policies and legacies he enacted during his eight years tenure.

He said Oyetola waged a war against him after he emerged as the governor because he alleged that he did not support his candidature in 2018.

Aregbesola, speaking at Isale Abata in Ikire during the Ayedaade/Isokan/Irewole Federal Constituency meeting with stakeholders of the party at a rally to endorse former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti, ahead of tomorrow’s  All Progressives Congress (APC) primary, said: “I begged Oyetola for two years. I sent people to help me beg him that he should not destroy my legacies and policies. He refused the pleas.

“Our hope is in God and the good people of Osun State. Nobody can overcome God.  It is not a sin to contest for a position in a democratic government. The constitution of the party stipulates that after four years, we can change our candidate. But if he abides by the tenets of the party, we will support him for another term.”

Speaking about his aspirant, he said: “The leaders of the party have agreed that we should go back to where we missed the road in 2018.  We have realised our mistake that the person we ought to put in front, we neglected him. We followed an ingrate and a wicked soul.”

Osun State Government has alleged in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Funke Egbemode, that some persons have stockpiled the uniforms of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigerian Correctional Service with intent to distribute them to non-state actors for use during tomorrow’s APC governorship primary.

The government warned those behind the plot to jettison the idea, as security operatives have been put on the alert and mandated to deal with anyone bent on causing violence and destruction in the state.

The leaders of parties have signed an agreement with the police command to be of good conduct during the primaries.

Addressing the leaders before they signed the agreement at a peace meeting held at the command headquarters in Osogbo yesterday, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Valentine Kanayo, warned politicians and residents against taking the law into their hands before, during and after the election slated for July 16.
