    C & S Movement Emmanuel District holds harvest

    THE Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, Emmanuel District, 84, Old Otta Road, Orile Agege, Lagos, will celebrate its 38th Adult Harvest thanksgiving on Sunday.

    The thanksgiving anniversary with the theme ‘Harvest of Divine Transformation’ (Psalm 126:1) will hold at the church auditorium from 12.00 noon with Special Apostle S. Ade Kolawole delivering the sermon.

    Father of the day is Snr. Special Apostle Victor Adekunle Alonge, while Special Mother in Israel F. Odeyinka (JP), is Mother of the Day.

    The service is the culmination of a three-day series of programmes slated for the event which started on Wednesday with a special Shilo service also at the church auditorium.

    OUI founder graces Ipetumodu Day

    THE Founder and Chancellor of Oduduwa University and Maye of Yorubaland, Dr. Abdulrahaman Adedoyin was at this year’s Ipetumodu Day celebration and made a cash donation of N3 million towards the development of the town.

    Ipetumodu, a community in Osun State is the host of the Oduduwa University.

    Adedoyin who was the Father of the Day at the celebration was in company of his wife and Chairperson, Board of Trustees of Oduduwa University, Chief Iyabo Adedoyin.

    Mrs Adedoyin also made a cash donation of 1 million naira towards the 500 million Naira appeal fund for the building of an ultra-modern palace for the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu.

    While praying that the relationship between the University and the host community would continue to wax stronger, the renowned educationist also donated a scholarship worth N2million to any qualified indigene of the town to study any course of their choice at the Oduduwa University.

    In his address, the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Prof) Joseph Olugbenga Oloyede while thanking the sons and daughters of the community enjoined them to join him in focusing their energy on investing in the youth for the advancement of their future as well as turning the town to a cultural icon adding that Ipetumodu has a rich cultural heritage.

    The monarch used the opportunity to also appreciate the governor of Osun State, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola for his visionary leadership and kind gesture towards the people of Ipetumodu and Ife North Local Government in general.

    Ondo LGA workers return to renovated secretariat razed by #EndSARS protesters

    WORKERS at the Okitipupa Local Government Council in Ondo State returned to the renovated council’s secretariat Friday,  one year after it was razed during the #EndSARS protests.

    The protesters also burnt a police station and the Okitipupa Oil Palm Company on Oct. 22, 2020 and the building housing a High Court, Customary and Magistrates courts and other government’s property.

    Addressing the council workers, the Vice-Chairman of the council, Mr Ola Iwaeni, congratulated them for returning to the newly-renovated secretariat and their duty posts after managing a temporary office since 2020.

    Iwaeni appreciated Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, for his prompt intervention in rebuilding the secretariat.

    Iwaeni also announced the decision of the council to embark on an aggressive tax drive which he said would bring money to the council.

    In his remarks, Mr Johnson Ikuejamuwa, the council secretary who is also the Chairman of the rebuilding committee also appreciated all donors and prayed that God would replenish them.

    He also tasked all workers to redouble their efforts in ensuring that they did their best in their service delivery to the council and to the state.

    S/West traditional rulers to grace Owa of Idanre’s 45th coronation anniversary

    AHEAD of the coronation anniversary of the Owa of Idanre, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr)/Frederick Adegunle Aroloye, Arubiefin IV, on December 11, foremost traditional rulers in the South-West geopolitical zone have pledged to be part of the epochal event.

    According to the chairman of the anniversary committee, Dr. Anthony Omolola, the royal fathers made their intention known in separate correspondence with the Owa.

    Among the traditional rulers who have indicated interest in gracing the occasion are the Arole Oodua, the Oni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, who assured that he would lead traditional rulers from his domain to the event.

    The Ooni, the statement said, is to serve as the royal father of the day.

    Other traditional rulers expected at the event are the chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas and Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo;   the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Dr. Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe, Aladesanmi   III and the Owa Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, Oba Joseph Adebayo Adewole, Arojojoye II.

    The list also includes the Olugbo of Ugboland, Oba (Dr) Frederick Akinruntan.

    The statement added that virtually all the important dignitaries from all walks of life invited to grace the programme had indicated their willingness to be present in recognition of the peaceful reign of Oba Aroloye and his peacemaking efforts that had seen him settling many communal crisis in the past.

    “The week-long celebrations which would take place between December 6 and December 11 will include football matches, marathon race, lectures, and will be crowned by the N500 million fundraising for the renovation of the Owa’s palace on the last day of the event.

    Two suspected leprosy cases discovered in Ibadan

    TWO suspected cases of leprosy disease have been discovered at Sabo, Mokola in Ibadan after 101 residents were tested for skin infections.

    Also discovered at a free leprosy test at the location were four cases of other skin diseases, discovered among the inhabitants of the community.

    In a bid to ensure better living standard in Oyo State, the Life Renewal Healthcare and Empowerment Foundation (LIRECAF) has started the campaign against Leprosy disease at Sabo community in Mokola, Ibadan.

    The LIRECAF President, Mrs Jemila Aliyu said the foundation, which is working in conjunction with the Damien Foundation, Belgium, (DFB Ibadan Officer) conducted test for early detection of leprosy, also known as Hansien Disease, which is a bacterium infection, caused by slow growing mycobacterium known as mycobacterium Laprae, which affects the nerves, skin, eyes, ears and the lining of the nose (nasal Mucosa).

    She said with early diagnosis and treatment, the ailment could be cured, saying that symptoms of the disease include discoloured patches of the skin.

    The discovered cases have been handed over to the Ibadan North Local Government’s Tuberculosis and Leprosy Supervisor, who was also at the testing ground.

    Aliyu emphasized that other symptoms are growth (nodules) on the skin, thick stiff or dry skin and painless swelling or lumps on the face or earlobes.

    She stressed that leprosy disease is not spread by touching, while the routes of transmission is through droplets of an infected person by sneezing or coughing.

    Jemila stated that anyone that has the trace of leprosy disease is detected through the testing and treatment would be be handled by the Tuberculosis, Leprosy local government supervisor TBL, who the LIRECAF has carried along for the purpose of the program.

    NGO takes Good Deeds campaign to secondary schools in Osun

    A nonprofit organisation in Osun State, Glorious Child Of Hope Foundation (GCHF) has taken a Good Deeds campaign to secondary school students in the state with the theme: “Successful Learning Guide for Greatness.”

    The event which was held at the School of Science in Ile-Ife was organized by GCHF in collaboration with Medicinal plants Club Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife.

    350 students of School of Science and Saint Peter Anglican Church Grammar School Ile-Ife got free Edukit during the event.

    The Good Deed Day School Club was inaugurated at school of science with the presentation of Club Certificate and Guideline for it operation while Edukit was distributed to over 350 students from the two Schools.

    The Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation who is also the Country Leader for Good Deeds Day Nigeria, Mr Adetola Olugbenga Bamidele said the outreach was part of efforts to encourage children to shun bad habits and imbibe good behaviour.

    He explained that Good Deed Day is a global Movement that unites people from over 100 Countries to do good deeds for the benefits of others.

    According to him “Since 2007, millions of people, thousands of communities, organizations and businesses come together every year to volunteer their services, resources and time to help humanity.

    “The Initiator is Shari Arison, a business woman and philosophist on the basis that if we all think good, speak good and do good, our world will be peaceful and our development will be measurable and sustainable,” Bamidele added.

    “If we don’t train them, we can’t blame them. These children need to imbibe the spirit of kindness as the antidote to all the vices that are happening nowadays”, Bamidele added.

    Local sourcing of raw materials solution to forex unavailability, says MAN

    THE Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has said that local sourcing of raw materials remains one of the solutions to foreign exchange unavailability and optimization of hard earned foreign exchange.

    Speaking at the 54th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Ikeja branch of MAN recently in Lagos, the chairman, Otunba Francis Meshioye noted that some of the companies have already taken the lead in the local sourcing of their raw materials which automatically increases the local content value of their products and hence put them on edge in the market.

    He noted that local sourcing will sustain diversification and sustainable development.

    Speaking further at the AGM, which theme was captioned ‘Repositioning Nigeria manufacturing sector in the emerging continent for sustainable growth and profitability’, Meshioye stressed that sourcing raw materials locally will drive up “our competitive and comparative advantages, open up more industrial sectors, increase our ingenuity and creativity via research and development”.

    “It increases our patency rights and thus enhances our knowledge economy. It creates more employment and of course the ripple effects of local raw material sourcing will certainly improve socio economic development in the country”.

    Baba Ijesha: Witness scared to testify in court – Prosecution

    THE prosecution team of the Lagos State Government has told an Ikeja Special Offences Court that one of the witnesses set to testify against Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James alias Baba Ijesha is scared to testify in court.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that state counsel, Mr Yusuf Sule, made the disclosure on Friday while explaining the absence of two witnesses slated to testify against the actor in his ongoing trial for sexual assault.

    “My lord, the first witness is a police officer, he could not come to court today because he has been transferred and needs to get permission from where he was posted.

    “The second witness could not come to court; he is jittery, he is scared to come to court.

    “My lord, we will ensure that all the witnesses are in court by next week Friday,” the prosecutor said.

    Following the submission, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo adjourned the case until Nov. 19 for continuation of trial.

    NAN reports that James is facing a six-count charge bordering on indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration.

    The alleged offences contravene Sections 135, 259, 262, 263 and 262 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    Five witnesses have testified so far for the prosecution.

    They include the alleged victim and her foster mother, actress and comedienne Damilola Adekoya alias Princess.

    The others are a child expert, Mrs Olabisi Ajayi-Kayode; a medical doctor, Dr Aniekan Makanjuola; and a police officer, ASP Wahab Kareem.

    Abeokuta Descendants Union, Nigeria (ADUN) has unfolded plans to give scholarship to members of the body.

    Speaking at the inauguration of the new executive members, at Oshodi-Isolo Local Government  Secretariat, Oshodi, Lagos, the National President of the union, Alhaji Babatunde Ogunwoolu said the opportunity would be for the indigenous Egba sons and daughters.

    He said: “Part of our mandate is to ensure that vulnerable and hapless women and children of Egba extraction are supported and empowered to live a normal life.

    “We are willing to offer scholarships to Egba sons and daughters who passed their examinations and have been offered admission. We will also support women and widows to be self-reliant, in order to take care of their children.”

    Governor: miscreants, criminal herders chased out of our forest

    Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has said criminal herdsmen and miscreants have been chased out of forested reserves.

    He said he had through registration of farmers and herdsmen ensured that criminal herdsmen no longer lived in the forest.

    Akeredolu spoke yesterday while presenting instrument of appointment and staff of office to the monarch of Irese community in Ifedore Local Government, Oba Ahmed Saka.

    The governor, who admonished monarchs in the 18 local governments to support his administration in the fight against crime, promised to fill vacant royal stools across the state.

    He said any monarch whose selection process was found to be in conformity with due process would be given staff of office as soon as possible.

    Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Segun Odusanya, the governor urged traditional rulers to support his developmental agenda.

    He hoped that crime in the forest would soon become a thing of the past.

    The governor said: “I implore traditional rulers to henceforth go the extra mile in providing community policing for the security of lives of their people. Our people should report strange faces and movements in our communities to the law enforcement agents so that together we can eradicate insecurity.

    “We have passed and signed the law against open grazing. We hope that with the steps taken so far and the current level of investment in security, the issue of criminality in our forest will be a thing of the past.”

    The monarch, Oba Ahmed Saka, advised the government to extend good road network, modern markets and other infrastructural development to the community.

    He said the tourism potentials in the community were yet to be harnessed.

    “We want the government to help us establish our tourist potential. Irese is home to some of the jaw-dropping wonders of nature,” the traditional ruler said.
