APC tackles APGA over comments on Ngige

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated the ruing All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State for saying Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige had abandoned APC candidate in the November 6 election in the state, Senator Andy Uba.

Uba has allegedly been insulted and attacked by some parties, which his campaign organisation has declared “enough is enough”.

A statement yesterday in Awka, the state capital, by the Director of Media and Publicity of Senator Andy Uba Campaign Organisation (SAUCO), Victor Ogene, said Ngige did not reject any position in the campaign organiation.

“Despite our resolve not to further dignify the tantrums emanating from the throes of the outgoing APGA administration with responses, we are constrained to, once again, call attention to the party’s increasing recklessness.

“The propaganda of APGA, titled: Chris Ngige Backs Out of Andy Uba Project, and reportedly authored by …the APGA social media team, went to the ridiculous degree of stating that the unfounded gibberish is based on an alleged recruitment of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members to murder prominent Anambrarians to snatch (the) state by force.

“It is laughable that in their haste to throw just about any dart in the direction of Senator Uba and the APC, they forgot that their principal …had already absolved every Anambra citizen of culpability in the mayhem ravaging the state…

“For the APGA desperados, however, no name, no authority is sacred in the execution of the ‘one day, one propaganda’ strategy upon which their media campaign is hinged.

“Else, they ought to have known that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Nwabueze Ngige, remains the leader of the APC in Anambra State and sits as chair of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) for the November 6, 2021 election.

“In addition, the minister’s closest associate, Chief Uzoma Igbonwa, is head of the campaign’s Finance Directorate, while his younger brother, Chief Emeka Ngige (SAN) heads the legal arm. This is in addition to having his cousin, Emeka Okafor, Ide Nnobi, as the deputy governorship candidate of the APC.

“We wish to advise the APGA that next time they decide to pick a target to shore up the dwindling profile of their party, they must look beyond the minister who is renowned within Nigeria, and beyond, as one person who has enormous capacity to say his mind at any time, and on any issue.

“To attempt, therefore, to drag the esteemed name of our leader into issues that do not concern him is taking politicking too far…”

Anambra poll: Why we prefer Andy Uba – indigenes in US

Indigenes of Anambra state in the United States of America have thrown their wieght on the candidacy of the All Progressive Congress (APC) flagbearer, Sen. Andy Uba in the November 6 governorship election in Anambra state.

The group under the platform of USA Partner Senator Andy Uba said the APC candidate has what it takes to govern the state in terms of wealth of knowledge and experience.

Addressing reporters yesterday, State Coordinator of the group, David Umeh said the choice of Uba to other candidates was also informed by his financial capacity to fund his campaign, describing his co-contestants as ‘baby politicians’.

He explained that the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) had lost relevance in the state occasioned by bad governance, saying the so-called airport legacy project would not be completed at the expiration of the present administration.

“This time around, it will be a walkover, particularly with the defections of other party members to APC, including 6 House of Assembly APGA members, 3 federal House of Reps members, a PDP Senator, BOT PDP member, Ikpeazu and others.

“The airport the governor is boasting will be ready before the election is not possible. Election will come and go and the airport will remain the way it is. It’s Andy Uba that will commission it. The same with the International Conference Centre.

“Anambraians living in US have a resolution that they want someone who will make Anambra great again. After their several meetings, they found Andy worthy. In US, we call them Super-Coordinators, headed is Dr. Chike Orama. ”

Man petitions IGP, alleges unlawful seizure of N63m property

Mr. Friday Egboreshare of Agbarho community, Ughelli North local government area of Delta state, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police and Attorney General of the Federation over unlawful seizure of N63m paid property purchased from Salis Ventilated Homes Limited.

Egboreshare who lamented while speaking to newsmen, said Salis Ventilated Homes of No. 4 Gashua close, Area 8, Garki, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, had on 17th Nov., 2020, sold a property described as plot 433, Cadastral Zone CO2 Gwarimpa 1, Block 8A, B, C&D of three bedroom flats, Abuja, at N63million, including legal fee to Dr. Micheal Uadiale and Dr. (Mrs.) Enojare Uadiale.

The full payment of the property according to Egboreshare was made through transfer on 16th and 17th November 2020, by the agent to Salis Ventilated Homes, including a legal fee which amount to N63million with a receipt of payment and deed issued and signed by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Saliu Abubakar.

He emphasised that in the receipt of payment, it was stated clearly by Salis Ventilated Homes Limited, that the buyer has paid all fees in regard to the property, but expressed surprised when the firm came up with an untrue story that the buyer was still owing N26million after a deed of purchase showing the amount of N60milion had been signed and sealed by both parties.

Egboreshare said the press briefing became necessary to inform the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General of the Federation, security agents and other relevant authorities to intervene over the inexplicable action of Salis Ventilated Homes Limited holding back their property when they have met all obligations as to the purchase of the property.

“In a letter dated 17th November, 2020, sent to Dr. Micheal Uadiale and Dr. Enojare Uadiale by the MD/CEO, Alhaji Saliu Abubakar said he has granted their application and letter of allocation for three bedroom flat (Block 8A, B, C, D) (Carcass), with description at Salis Court, Plot 433, Gwarimpa 1, Cadastral Zone COS, FCT, Abuja with a purchase sum of N60,000.”

Contacted over the allegations, the MD/CEO of Salis Ventilated Homes, Alhaji Saliu Abubakar said the firm never seized any property or deny the transaction but said the property they later offered was three bedroom flats against the initial two bedroom flats transaction between his Executive Director, Benedict R. O. and their agent, hence the demand for additional 20million.

Diri seeks monarchs’ cooperation to fight crime

The Bayelsa State Government has restated its readiness for greater collaboration with traditional rulers to build a more secure and peaceful state.

The Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, made this known on Saturday during separate meetings with traditional rulers from Brass and Sagbama local government areas in Government House, Yenagoa.

Ewhrudjakpo said the role of traditional rulers as custodians of peace and security in their areas could not be overemphasised at a time criminality is on the rise everywhere in the country.

He pointed out that the Douye Diri administration had an irrevocable commitment to revamp the traditional institution, to give them the needed impetus to perform their role as agents of peace and development.

Ewhrudjakpo informed the royal fathers that the local government councils had been directed to pass bye-laws that would legalize the setting up of vigilance groups in all the LGAs of the state in view of the growing security concerns.

While soliciting the cooperation of the traditional rulers, he clarified that the funding of the vigilantes would be jointly done by the state government and the local government councils.

According to him, government has also directed councils to enact bylaws banning the movement of speed boats without official security permit along the rivers and creeks within the state after 7pm.

Responding to some complaints bordering on inter-local government boundary disputes in the state, Ewhrudjakpo called on all communities having boundary issues to forward them to the Bayelsa State Boundary Committee for arbitration.

To this end, he directed the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Development to get the monthly security meeting reports from the eight councils and convey same to his office accordingly.

In their separate remarks, the Amayanabo of Twon-Brass, King Alfred Diete Spiff, and the Ibenanaowei of Ibeni-Oyiakiri, King Joshua Igbagara, thanked the Deputy Governor for the regular meetings held with traditional rulers in all the LGAs across the state.

The royal fathers, however, appealed to government to provide the necessary logistics they needed to function effectively.

Also speaking, the Commander of NNS Soroh, Commodore Peter Effah, said the Nigerian Navy was taking proactive steps to beef up security in the waterways following the flag-off of “Exercise Still Waters” in the state.

Security operatives nab three for car burglary, theft in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Vigilante Service (BSVS) says the outfit has arrested three suspected criminals in connection with car burglary and copper wires theft in the state.

The Chairman of the BSVS, Hon. Doubiye Alagba, said on Saturday that the service apprehended an 18-year-old Matthew Izibefiezem, who specialised in stealing copper wires and subsequently sold them to scrap dealers in Yenagoa, the state capital.

Alagba said the suspect after stealing the copper wires usually sold them to a scrap dealer, one Mr. Bubarak Abdulahi, a northerner residing in the state.

He said luck ran out on them when the duo had a misunderstanding over price and payment.

He said the development raised suspicion among residents who informed the outfit that led to their arrest.

Alagba said as a result of series of complaints from residents about the activities of scrap scavengers and number of arrested criminals associated with them, the outfit had seen the need to check and verify those who engage in scrap scavenging and buying in the state.

He added that some dealers in the scraps business encouraged the high level of stealing and criminal activities that are being recently witnessed in the state.

He said: “If you want to sell scrap metals or own a scrap dump, be ready to prove you don’t have criminal record.

“The new rule is an attempt to curb the recent increase in stealing associated with dealers in scraps.”

Alagba also said the outfit arrested one Lotana Ifeogbunam from Anambra State, who was caught along the Imiringi Road while trying to burgle a Lexus Jeep in a bid to steal the battery of the vehicle.

“The suspect, according to residents of the area specialises in stealing vehicle batteries. After he has stolen them, he sells them to scrap dealers in the state,” he stated.

Alagba said the three suspects had been handed over to the Anti-kidnapping Department of the Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa State Command.

Omo-Agege, solution to PDP misrule in Delta – Group

The Grass Roots Marshall (GRM) in Delta State has re-affirmed its support for the governorship ambition of Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege.

The political support group said Omo-Agege is the only solution to the myriad of problems created in the last 24 years by the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Speaking at Ughelli during the inauguration of the group, national coordinator, Ejogbamu Johnson Okoro insisted that Omo-Agege remained the only politician who can wrestle power from the behemoth PDP in Delta state.

Okoro hinged his conviction on what he claimed the numbers of employment and assistance he offered Deltans across the board without tribal sentiment.

He said Deltans have been yearning for a man who can liberate the state from the hands of PDP’s maladministration hence they decided to queue behind Omo-Agege as the only solution to Delta’s woes.

Patron of the group Tony Onyokoko said the group cut across the three senatorial districts of the state with a view to embarking on a campaign for the Deputy Senate President, stating that they have seen him as the only messiah that can rescue power from PDP.

Chairman of the ceremony Dafe Avbovbo, who was represented by George Anigboro, commended the coordinator for the foresight in keying into the Omo-Agege governorship vision for the state, appealing to all members of the group to work hard to actualise their dream.

Diri to Christians: defend your faith amid insecurity

Bayelsa  State Governor Douye Diri has reiterated his call on Christians to rise up in defence of the gospel and their faith in the face of troubling security challenges in the country.

Diri made the call yesterday at separate courtesy visits by the General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church, Revd Sam Aboyeji and the Senior Pastor of God’s Power Dominion Ministries International, Pastor I.A. Charles, to his office in Government House, Yenagoa.

Represented by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, he noted that a situation where Christians allow themselves to be overrun and killed with ease by those who see them as enemies is unacceptable.

Diri, who reminded the church of how Christianity was clamped down in the Othman Republic, which is today known as Turkey, urged Christians to guard against a repeat of such fatal mistake anywhere in the world.

He also charged Christian clerics to practice what he called “old time religion” by preaching love, morality and the need to uphold the truth.

Diri, however, expressed gratitude to the church and Christians leaders for their support to his government and promised to continue to identify with them in every way possible.

“You know there are different types of converts. We have the Bartimeaus converts, the Magdalene converts and the Lazarus converts. As a government, we belong to the Lazarus group where you were dead but called back to life by God.

“Almost everything was gone. Even hope was on life support. But God showed up and breathed life into us. That is why we are here. And so, we will continue to appreciate Him. In any case, there is nothing we can do to add to His glory. Because His glory is always constant.

“But I have always said that the Church needs to do more in this troubled times in which our unity and survival is at stake. We should not behave like the people of the Othman Republic.

“That was a Christian republic but it was negligence and religious gentility that led to what we have as Turkey today. Christians should not shy away from defending themselves and their faith.”

In their separate remarks, the General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church, Revd Sam Aboyeji and the Senior Pastor, God’s Power Dominion Ministries International, Pastor I.A. Charles, commended the state government for working in synergy with the church in promoting peace and harmony in the state.

Imo govt urges oil marketers to end strike, seeks reduction in transport fares

Imo State government has urged striking oil marketers and tanker drivers to suspend their actions and follow due process in the resolution of the conflict.

It reiterated its earlier position that the strike is illegal since the contentious matter of judgment debt is before the Appeal Court.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba said although what the oil marketers are doing amounted to blackmail and economic sabotage, Government has reached out to them to ensure that the strike is called off.

“We have initiated talks with them.  But it is important for Nigerians to know that the matter for which they started this strike is still in court. In the eyes of the law, the strike is illegal,” the commissioner averred.

According to him, what government did was simply to appeal the judgment to enable it understand fully what was involved since it was the administration of Rochas Okorocha that carried out the act under consideration.

Emelumba advised the oil workers to immediately call of the strike for the interest of Imo masses whom he said are innocent victims of their ill-advised action.

“Government has a responsibility to protect the interest of the many, particularly when undue hardship is inflicted on them for no fault of theirs.  There is a limit any person or group can test the will of government in this regard,” the commissioner added.

Meanwhile, the prices Petroleum products particularly petrol and gas have sky rocketed from N165 per litre of fuel and N350 per litre of gas to N500 and N600 respectively.

In a related development, Imo youths yesterday gave the oil marketers 24 hours to call off the ongoing strike action or face consequences of subjecting the citizens in the state to unhealthy tensions.

In a communiqué issued to reporters after an emergency meeting in Owerri, the state capital by the Coalition of Youth Organisations(CYO) and signed by Prince Fortune Chinonso, Comrade Anaemem Obikaeze and Comrade Bathlomew Umah, the youth warned the marketers to call off the strike as it was adversely affecting the well-being of citizenry in the state.

“The youths in Imo State have given petroleum marketers 24hoirs within which they should call off their strike and open their filling stations for business or be ready to face the consequences of subjecting Imolites to unhealthy tensions.”
