He emphasized the transformational leadership of Governor Sanwo-Olu, whose vision of Greater Lagos Rising has translated into concrete progress across the state.

In Agboyi-Ketu and Ikosi-Isheri LCDAs of Kosofe Constituency II, Sanwo-Olu has delivered landmark projects in roads, healthcare, schools, and grassroots empowerment, significantly improving the lives of residents and complementing federal reforms.

Commending the lawmaker, who chairs the House Committee on Finance, Omotoso praised his consistency in facilitating developmental projects for Kosofe Constituency II and assured that his efforts would continue to attract dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

The commissioner charged Lagosians to leverage technology and new media platforms such as AskLagos and Alausa Alert to stay informed and engage government.

Yishawu reaffirms commitment to constituents at Lagos Assembly stakeholders’ meeting

Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu, representing Eti-Osa Constituency II in the Lagos House of Assembly, has restated commitment to effective representation, emphasising the need for continuous engagement between lawmakers and the people they serve.

Speaking at the 10th Constituency stakeholders’ Meeting of the Assembly under the leadership of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, Yishawu said legislators were elected to serve the people’s interests and not their own.

“We are representatives of the people. They voted us to be their voice in the state. We must engage with them regularly, take their feedback, and report back on our activities,” he noted.

He explained that the annual stakeholders’ meeting, now in its 10th year, provides a platform for legislators to brief constituents, deliberate on community issues such as child abuse, drug abuse, and security, and receive fresh inputs to guide policymaking.

Highlighting his interventions in education, health, and entrepreneurship, Yishawu disclosed that his office provides 1,000 JAMB forms, 300 GCE forms, and scholarships for students who secure university admission annually.

He added that vocational training programmes, digital skills acquisition, and entrepreneurial support for traders and artisans have continued to empower residents of Eti-Osa.

“From scholarships to vocational equipment, from youth empowerment to digital training labs, our goal is to provide opportunities for growth and self-reliance. These initiatives ensure that no young person has an excuse not to pursue education or a skill,” he said.

Yishawu presented financial support to 15 students from his constituency who recently gained admission into higher institutions, some of whom had earlier benefitted from the free JAMB forms distributed by his office.

He further urged residents to protect public infrastructure and hold leaders accountable, describing governance as “a two-way street” that requires active participation of both citizens and their representatives.

Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), commended the initiative of the 10th Town Hall Meeting, describing it as a vital forum for constituents to interact with government.

“I am pleased with the performance of our representative in the Assembly, Gbolahan Yishawu, and I urge residents to continue supporting him,” Olusi said, while also encouraging Lagosians who have yet to do so to take advantage of the ongoing INEC registration exercise.

The commissioner said the deputy governor, Oladipo and other leaders of the party involved were loyal and committed stakeholders, who could not be involved in any anti-party activity.

“Adewusi and Oladipo remain trusted top state officials, who are pillars of grassroots support and pivotal to the progress and sustainability of the administration.

“Be that as it may, the government wishes to use this medium to state without hesitation, in any form whatsoever, that the crisis has not affected the position of Adewusi as the deputy governor.

“He also retains his position as a strong and loyal party man, whose integrity and commitment to the present administration are not in doubt.

“By whatever yardstick, the government still reposes strong confidence in him as the second-in-command to Governor Ademola Adeleke.

‘’His position is not in any way affected by the controversy.

“In the same vein, the government wishes to reaffirm its confidence in Prof. Oladipo.

“He retains his position, not only as a member of the PDP Board of Trustees from the state, but also his chairmanship position as State University Governing Council Chairman,” he said.

Alimi also said both the deputy governor and Oladipo were in good working relationship with the governor and the PDP-led administration.

“Not for once has the integrity and strong loyalty of the duo been in doubt.

“The government appeals to all party leaders within the federal constituency to sheathe their swords and allow the party’s internal mechanism to treat their grievances.

“All issues will be looked into,” he said.

Ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, African Democratic Congress (ADC) has received a major boost with the defection of members from All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP).

A former banker and a philanthropist, Adeyinka Alli, has formally declare his intention to run for governor on the ADC platform.

“We are from different parties – APC, PDP, LP and SDP. Our decision to defect to the ADC is in a bid to support the governorship aspiration of a kinsman and philanthropist, Adeyinka Alli, on the coalition platform,” she said.

Receiving the new members, the ADC Deputy Chairman in Ekiti, Dare Adekolu, assured them that the coalition party was not only prepared for the 2026 race, but also determined to present a credible alternative to the ruling APC.

Adekolu said the party was committed to delivering a people-oriented government that would address the challenges facing the state.

Alli said he was motivated by the need to rescue Ekiti from what he described as economic stagnation and infrastructural decay.

He lamented that the state’s economy was “in a state of comatose.”

ADC state Chairman, Omolayo Ilesanmi, hailed Alli for throwing his hat into the ring, describing him as a competent, courageous and visionary leader, who could chart a new course for the state.

COWLSO’s commitment has already drawn anticipation from stakeholders in education, health care and civil society, who see this as a vital intervention that can ripple across generations.

By addressing the gaps in access to resources and advocacy, the Johnson Era is positioning COWLSO as a model of inclusive governance and community development in Lagos State.

As Lagosians look ahead to the launch today, expectations are high. The initiative is poised to make a lasting mark not only in the hearts of the special needs community, but also across the entire state. It is a shining example of how leadership, driven by empathy and vision, can transform lives and reframe the narrative of inclusion.

Osun PDP leaders pass vote of no confidence in Adeleke’s deputy

Leaders and members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have passed a vote of no confidence in the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi and ex-National Secretary, Prof Wale Oladipo, over anti-party activities.

The leaders and members of the party from Ife Federal Constituency, led by the state Financial Secretary, Prince Adesoji Adegoke, ex-Deputy Speaker, Ropo Oyewole and two serving commissioners, Dipo Eluwole, Biyi Odunlade and 35 others, reached the agreement after their meeting on Monday.

The communiqué jointly signed by 39 chieftains noted that several activities of the duo amounted to anti-party actions, hence, they passed a vote of no confidence in them.

According to the communiqué, they held that they were dissatisfied with the actions and conduct of Bimbo Ajilesoro, a member of the House of Representatives, who defected from the party ‘’with the mandate freely given to him by our people.’’

“We condemn invitation of hoodlums to Ife Federal Constituency meeting by the party Chairman, Olasunkanmi Makinde (aka Benco), purportedly on the instructions of Prof. Wale Oladipo. This meeting was earlier scheduled to be held at the home of the deputy governor.

“That the leadership is equally disappointed by the continued fraternity of Prof. Oladipo, the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, and Ife East PDP Chairman, Olasunkanmi Makinde (aka Benco), with Bimbo Ajilesoro, who has since defected from the party.”

They said the party was enraged that loyal members like Lawrence Omotosho, Adeyinka Adeniji (aka Gbogbo Ebe), Yakubu Olawusi and others, who openly disassociated themselves from Bimbo Ajilesoro, following his defection, were being continuously victimised by being relieved of their government and party positions.

  • Lagos communities urged to take ownership of PHCs

Lagos communities urged to take ownership of PHCs

Lagos State Advocacy Team on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (ATM) has called on communities in Ejirin area of Epe Local Government to take greater ownership of their primary health care centres (PHCs), rather than waiting for government intervention.

The appeal was made during an advocacy visit led by the Lagos State Coordinator of the TB Network and the team lead for the ATM coordinators, Mrs. Meg Aipoh.

The ATM initiative is coordinated by three civil society coalitions known as ATM Networks: the Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunisation and Nutrition (ACOMIN), the Tuberculosis (TB) Network, and the Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN).

Supported by Global Fund, the project is being implemented across 21 states in Nigeria, including Lagos, with the goal of strengthening health systems and improving the country’s response to HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.

Aipoh urged community leaders to take ownership of primary health care centres (PHCs) in their communities to ensure sustainability and better service delivery.

She said the project was being implemented in five local government areas of the state, with three community-based organisations (CBOs) working in each council to drive grassroots impact.

Aipoh, addressing the Adetoyese Elejinrin of Ejirin Kingdom, Oba Rafiu Balogun and some of his kinsmen and women, said the primary goal of the intervention was to strengthen PHCs and encourage participation of community members in identifying and solving challenges facing the facilities.

“The project is basically to strengthen primary health centres in Lagos State and ensure community members take ownership. Government cannot do everything. Government can build, but maintenance often becomes a problem. This is why we are involving the communities to take ownership and get them engaged in resolving issues identified in their PHCs,” she said.

She noted that over the years, poor maintenance culture had affected the functionality of PHCs, leading to gaps in health care delivery.

The new strategy, she said, seeks to build accountability, awareness and responsibility at the community level to ensure facilities are not abandoned or neglected.

The state coordinator stressed that when communities became proactive in maintaining their health care centres, it not only ensured the centres remained functional, but also reduced the burden on the government.

Reacting, Oba Balogun raised the alarm over what he described as decades of abandonment, lamenting that successive governments at the federal, state and local levels had failed to bring meaningful development to his community.

The monarch lamented that since the creation of Lagos State in 1967, the community had not felt the impact of government in any meaningful way.

“Between 1967 and now, there is no government presence of any type in Ejirin, not even local government presence. The community has no medical facility, no social services, nothing at all,” Oba Balogun said.

The traditional ruler said he shouldered the responsibility of providing water for his people, spending huge amounts to pump borehole water for community use.

“I am the one giving water to my community. I spend a lot of money to pump the borehole just to make sure people have water to drink. The condition is bad. What we want is for government at all levels to come and develop Ejirin,” he added.

The Ekerin of Ejirin, Chief Lateef  Akinyemi, recalled that the only government intervention the community ever experienced was a water scheme initiated during the second term of former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu. However, the scheme collapsed when the supply of diesel was discontinued, leaving the community without access to clean water.

The Ejirin Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), meant to cater for the health needs of residents, is also in a deplorable state.

Investigations showed that the PHC has no midwife, no comfortable chairs for health workers, and is housed in a dilapidated building with broken ceilings. The only functional equipment is a solar-powered refrigerator provided by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) for vaccine preservation.

Currently, the PHC is manned by just two nurses, two community health workers, one environmental officer, a health attendant, and a pharmacy technician — grossly inadequate for the population it is meant to serve.

Oba Balogun said Ejirin people are not asking for luxury, but for the essentials every Nigerian community deserves.

“We need water. We need functional health care. We need social services. Government should not forget us,” he said.

The State Programme Officer for Civil Society for the eradication of TB Network in Nigeria on C19RM project, Mr. Taiwo Adakan, said the visit was prompted by challenges identified at the PHC by community-based organisations (CBOs) implementing the C19RM project in Ejirin community.

The challenges, he said, ranged from poor awareness and misconceptions about health care services, to weak community participation in sustaining PHC infrastructure.

“Money meant for primary health centres sometimes gets misused because communities remain silent. By creating awareness, we are helping residents to demand accountability from government and ensure facilities work for them,” he added.

During the visit to Oloritun in Erepoto area of Epe, the team identified additional concerns, including poor lighting at PHCs, lack of burglary-proof security for facilities, and cases of gender-based violence (GBV).

The programme officer said the project was not only about health service delivery, but also about strengthening community systems.

“Our goal is to empower communities to protect their PHCs, demand accountability and contribute resources where necessary. This is how we can achieve lasting impact,” he said.

Responding, a community leader at Oloritun in Erepoto, Chief Arijaya, appealed to government and stakeholders to come to the aid of Orepoto Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), which he said is in urgent need of support to meet the health needs of residents.

“I want to call on my people in the community and relevant authorities to support this programme so that we can progress in improving the centre. Government cannot do it alone. The PHC is here for us, but it needs our contributions and attention to grow,” he said.

  • I’m on rescue, restoration mission in Ekiti – Olawumi

I’m on rescue, restoration mission in Ekiti – Olawumi

A female governorship aspirant in the October 27, 2025 shadow election of the ruling All Progressives Congress  (APC) in Ekiti State, Hon. Abimbola Olajumoke Olawumi, has pledged to restore the pride of the state if she emerges as the party’s flag bearer.

She lamented that governance in the state is dying and the entire system in comatose, stating her vision for the state is anchored on a people centeref plan christened 3 RRR  (Rescue, Rebuild, and Restore) Agenda.

The human rights activist-turned-politician spoke this at the weekend in Abuja during an interactive session with newsmen.

According to her: “I’m aspiring to become the Governor of Ekiti state because of my firm belief that is rooted in the deep love for our people. And my conviction that Ekiti State deserves better.

“Over the years, we have had successive administrations dominated by career politicians who somehow have failed to harness the full potentials of our human and natural resources in the state. This has left our youth disempowered, our economy underdeveloped, and our people struggling unnecessarily under the hardship that has been brought about to the state because of the intentional weaponisation of poverty in the state.”

To actualise these dreams, she said her agenda will focus on economic diversification and job creation through agriculture, entrepreneurship, and sustainable investments.

She also said prime attention will be accorded to educational renaissance in order to restore Ekiti’s legacy as Nigeria’s Fountain of Knowledge.

Lamenting the deplorable state of the education sector, Olawumi noted: “We know that Ekiti State has been the fountain of knowledge in Nigeria, but over the years, we are not proud. At a time, they even changed it from fountain of knowledge to Ile-iyi, Ile-Ileye, because they could not sustain that being the fountain of knowledge because the education sector deteriorated. To the extent that in the last WAEC and NECO examinations, you see the rating in the southwest, Ekiti came last. So we are going to have the educational sector revived”

On healthcare, Olawumi promised to ensure holistic reform of the sector that will guarantee dispensation of accessible and affordable healthcare for the people of the state.

“There is going to be a holistic reformation to make healthcare delivery affordable and accessible to our people. You see a lot of deaths in the state, which are avoidable, but because we don’t have the facilities, the equipment required, you see people just dying. These we shall address squarely.”

The governorship hopeful then said her administration will ensure transparency and accountable governance, with the sole aim of ensuring that public funds work for the people by blocking leakages in governance.
