Kunle Adegoke’s declaration raises stakes in Osun gubernatorial election

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and astute political activist, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adegoke’s declaration comes amidst a flurry of political activities as the Independent National  Electoral Commission (INEC), political parties, civil societies and other stakeholders prepare for the August 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election.

The Osun State election is seen by observers as a litmus test for the Nigerian political system, coming a year ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Popularly known as K-RAD, Adegoke is making a second bid for the APC’s ticket, following his participation in the 2018 APC primaries.

A native of Osogbo, Adegoke is well respected for his legal expertise and political and human rights activism within and outside the state.

Adegoke’s socio-political platform, “Tiwa N Tiwa L’Osun” emphasises economic revitalisation and socio-political development.

He has articulated a comprehensive blueprint (Assured Future) aimed at transforming Osun State’s critical sectors including economy, focusing on job creation, infrastructure development, and improved public services.

He also underscored the importance of pragmatic solutions to the state’s challenges, moving beyond ethnic, bloc or regional considerations

Political observers said Adegoke stands shoulder high in the contest for the APC ticket citing his expertise, experience and activities within the APC, Osun State and the nation in general.

He is widely respected as a bridge-builder and had been lauded for his efforts to unify the APC in Osun State. During the 2018 primaries, his candidacy was seen as a bridge between the party’s factions, earning him the moniker “saviour” in certain circles.

His legal background and commitment to party ideals have positioned him as a respected figure capable of fostering cohesion within the APC.

As the 2026 election approaches, the APC’s ability to navigate internal dynamics and present a cohesive strategy will be crucial. Adegoke’s emphasis on competence and policy-driven leadership positions him as a candidate focused on substantive governance issues, potentially appealing to a broad electorate seeking effective solutions to the state’s challenges.

Observers said the coming months would be pivotal for the APC as it selects its gubernatorial candidate.

They argued that the party’s decision-making process would need to balance considerations of regional representation, candidate competence, and electoral viability to maximize its chances of success in the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

In the 2018 primaries, Adegoke, while raising concerns about certain anomalies, had chosen to remain faithful to the party’s decision, emphasizing his commitment to democratic principles and party loyalty and unity.

While K-RAD personally has been a consistent advocate of meritocracy, holding that leadership should be determined by competence and the ability to deliver good governance, rather than regional affiliations, his declaration has also deepened ongoing debate about APC’s zoning arrangements for the upcoming election.

Some party members have advocated for zoning the governorship ticket to Osun West to promote fairness and inclusivity.

Despite his stance against zoning, Adegoke’s Osogbo origin has sparked discussions about regional representation in Osun’s political landscape.

Some stakeholders argued that Osogbo, having not produced a governor since the state’s creation, deserves the opportunity.

However, others caution against concentrating power in one senatorial zone, suggesting that such a move could alienate other regions and impact the party’s electoral prospects.

Adegoke’s candidacy added to a growing list of APC aspirants vying for the governorship ticket. These included the party’s National Secretary, Dr. Ajibola Basiru (SRJ), Asiwaju Muniru Bola Oyebamiji  (AMBO); Senator Hassan Hussein; Iyiola Omisore; Dotun Babayemi and Senator Babajide Omoworare.

Political analysts said the growing list of eminent personalities contesting for the APC ticket presents a major challenge of managing these ambitions to prevent internal discord and ensure a united front in the August 16 2026 gubernatorial election.

Osun LG crisis/autonomy: Coalition condemns Adeleke’s outburst against NBA, Supreme Court

A coalition of civil society groups have condemned Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke over outburst against the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for keeping mum during council control crisis and the Supreme Court for granting financial autonomy to local government.

This is just as the coalition called for the cancellation of English language examination of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) after logistics forced students to take the paper at night.

The Nation reports that on Wednesday the commencement of Part II and III (objectives and theory) of English Language examinations was delayed, forcing students in Osun and other states to start the exam by 7pm to 9pm.

Reacting to the development, the coalition under the auspices of The Osun Masterminds(TOM) its Executive Director, Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli noted that “the failure of the examination body further exposed the lip service being paid to education by governors as most of the public schools have no light.

“On this basis, we call for the cancellation and rescheduling of the English language, since most of the candidates wrote under tension and psychological trauma; any test conducted on anyone in this state cannot be relied upon as a test of such parson’s ability, and therefore should be discarded and reconducted.”

Speaking about the outburst, Comrade Ayo Ologun berated the Information commissioner for allowing emotion to take control of him which is not a good representation of a good lawyer.

“As a lawyer, if you have an opinion about an issue, the moment a judge makes a pronouncement on it, you are bound by it, you should not condemn it. As a lawyer, you should not derogate the judgment of any court talkless of Supreme court verdict on the ground that the apex court does not have the right to amend the Constitution.”

APC’s irresistible appeal: Opposition leaders flock to Tinubu’s development agenda

    By Gbenga Abiola

The recent influx of opposition party members into the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a testament to the effectiveness of President Bola Tinubu’s development strategy. The implementation of economic stimulus packages has enabled governors to drive development initiatives across state and local government tiers, fostering a new era of economic growth and development.

The Tinubu administration’s achievement in ensuring consistent salary payments to state government employees has eliminated the historical revenue volatility that once plagued many states.

This feat is a direct result of the administration’s policy-driven economic restructuring, which has ensured stable revenue streams and provided a foundation for sustainable development.

The stability of economic reforms across state and local government levels has been a significant factor in the success of the Tinubu administration. Governors are now able to prioritize development initiatives, leveraging established economic fundamentals to drive growth and development in their respective states.

This has led to a renewed sense of purpose and direction, as governors focus on delivering tangible benefits to their constituents.

The benefits of effective governance are becoming increasingly apparent to Nigerians, prompting opposition attention and sparking a growing interest in the APC’s development agenda. Driven by President Tinubu’s vision, the APC’s agenda is attracting supporters and solidifying the party’s position as a leading force in Nigerian politics.

The party’s commitment to economic reform, infrastructure development, and social welfare programs is resonating with Nigerians, who are eager to be part of a government that prioritizes development and good governance.

The current economic challenges, including the high cost of living and foodstuff prices, are acknowledged. However, the Tinubu administration’s historic contribution of ideas has created a system that will gradually and systematically reduce commodity prices over time.

This is evident in the long-term trend of decreasing costs since 1999, which demonstrates the potential for sustained economic growth and development. As policy-driven initiatives mature, Nigerians can expect to see a significant reduction in commodity prices, leading to improved living standards and increased economic opportunities.

As Nigeria’s future outlook continues to brighten, driven by the Tinubu administration’s development initiatives, opposition leaders are increasingly drawn to the APC’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria.

The party’s development agenda is poised to attract more supporters, including key opposition leaders, who are eager to be part of a movement that is shaping Nigeria’s future and positioning the country as a major player on the global stage.

With its commitment to sustainable development and economic growth, the APC is well-positioned to consolidate its position and endure as a leading force in Nigerian politics. #AGBELEBU.

Group appeals to Tinubu, NASS over composition Of SWDC membership

A group, Justice & Equity Forum, has expressed displeasure with the composition of membership of the South West Development Commission, SWDC, saying that it doesn’t reflect the principle of federal character.

According to the group in a statement by its coordinator, Kehinde Adebayo, the composition doesn’t only throw equity away, it shows that the many months of looking for men to man the all-important commission was a waste.

It faulted the National Assembly for appointing two Oyo men to chair the committee on SWDC in the senate and house of representatives respectively.

“ Regional balance as well as federal character were not considered.

“More baffling is the appointment of three Ekiti men—  chairman, executive director, and a member all hailing from Ekiti State. It brings to fore constitutional and equity issues, that amount to over concentration of leadership roles within a single state.

“That undermines the principles of federal character and regional balance, which are vital for fair representation in Nigeria’s governance structures. It is not only illegal but unconstitutional.

“We had expected that bearing in mind that six states form SWDC, the leadership positions would have reflected the region’s diversity in order to ensure trust is maintained and effective governance is assured.

“The appointment of multiple top officials from the same state would jeopardise the running of the affairs of the commission. It is democracy and numbers apply.

“Of importance too is the appointment of chairmen of committee on SWDC by the Red and Green Chambers of the National Assembly. The senate especially didn’t do well by appointing an Oyo man as its committee chairman again while the house of representative had previously appointed another Oyo man as its own committee chairman too.

“While we feel it is not too late to correct, we urge the National Assembly to take equity, justice and fairness into consideration when deliberating on issues like this in the future. It breeds suspicion.

“We also like to call on President Bola Tinubu and other appointing authorities to be fair  and ensure balanced  representation when appointing people.  While we feel it is not too late to correct all these obvious lapses, we urge the President to look critically on the composition of South West development Commission,” the statement added.
