  • Why Muslims must follow Prophet Muhammad’s traditions, by Sheik Raji

Why Muslims must follow Prophet Muhammad’s traditions, by Sheik Raji

In a heartening address to the Muslim community, the renowned Nigerian Islamic scholar, Dr. Sharofudeen Gbadebo Raji, has emphasized the imperative significance of Muslims embracing the teachings and traditions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

He made this known on Sunday, October 29, in Lagos at the quarterly Ter’biyah class organised by Rightpath Arabic School on the topic: “Modeling the Ter’biyah in the period of the prophet and guided Khalifahs.”

The Sheik’s inspiring message underscores the importance of unwavering love and devotion to the beloved prophet’s path.

He passionately urged Muslims to wholeheartedly follow the traditions of the Prophet, asserting that it is an obligatory act of faith for all believers.

He called upon parents to play a pivotal role in guiding their children to emulate the footsteps of the Prophet.

The Islamic scholar emphasized that true faith necessitates an unwavering commitment to the Prophet’s traditions, declaring that those who disregard these timeless teachings can never be considered devout followers of Allah.

His call to parents is a resounding reminder of the vital role they play in nurturing the future generation of Muslims.

He stressed the importance of teaching children about the Hadiths of the Prophet and encouraging them to memorize these cherished sayings.

The scholar also expressed his concern that many Muslims do not truly understand the profound significance of the Prophet’s life and his teachings.

He added that particularly in the Yoruba region, there is a prevalent lack of awareness regarding the Prophet’s Hadiths.

Dr. Raji highlighted the importance of nurturing love and respect for all of the Prophet’s companions, as he firmly reminded his audience of the Prophet’s warning against any form of abuse directed at them. He emphasized that it is equally essential to show reverence to the Prophet’s family.

Beyond this, Dr. Raji encouraged parents to ensure their children are well-versed in reading and memorizing Al-Qur’an, the holy book of Islam.

He noted that the Quran, the word of Allah, was revealed to Prophet Muhammad to guide humanity.

He described the Quran as a “passport to paradise,” urging all Muslims to not only read it but also ponder over its profound messages and actively implement its teachings.

According to him, those who memorize and impart the Quran’s wisdom to others are considered among the best of humanity.

Citing verses from Al-Qur’an, Dr. Raji beautifully elucidated the transformative power of reciting and contemplating the divine book.

Following the teachings of Al-Qur’an, he argued, leads to a life filled with blessings and ultimately, eternal paradise.

Understanding the Quran, he concluded, not only enriches one’s spiritual life but also strengthens one’s faith and fear of Allah.

He cautioned against following the ways of unbelievers and encouraged parents to raise their children in alignment with the teachings of Al-Qur’an and the traditions of the Prophet.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Raji drew attention to the remarkable stories of prophet’s companions like Abdullahi bn Abass, Al-Imam Shaafih, and Al-Imam Nawawiy, who memorized the Quran at a young age.

These stories serve as a testament to the incredible potential and rewards of nurturing a deep connection with the Quran from childhood.

Dr. Raji’s enlightening words serve as a beacon of hope and encouragement for Muslims, urging them to rediscover the beauty of their faith through a profound connection with the teachings of the Prophet and the wisdom of Al-Qur’an.

Addressing the audience, Ustadh Yunus Al-Imam, the founder and proprietor of RightPath Arabic School and RightPath Academy Management, stressed the  importance of knowledge for all Muslims.

He outlined a range of valuable programmes, catering to both religious and Western education needs:

    1. Comprehensive Western and Arabic/Islamic Education with full Quran memorization

The body aid the Minister, Nyesom Wike, has proven competence, which is what should matter.

The YOWICAN Chairman for the 19 northern States, Evangelist Musa Misal, said in a statement in Yola, that it is also dangerous for Gumi to have advised President Bola Tinubu not to leave national security in the hands of Christians or southerners.

Attacking the diplomatic relationship Nigeria has with the State of Israel is a waste of time. The same clerics see nothing wrong with the Nigeria-Saudi Arabia relationship.”

Cindy Ogene: Mum showed me magic of creation

Cindy Ogene is an interior designer and Creative Director of Sculpt Design.

In this interview with Yetunde Oladeinde she talks about making bespoke pieces, pushing boundaries, inspiration and more.

Let’s talk about life as a furniture designer?

Being an Interior designer is like being a magician. You take simple materials and transform them into bespoke pieces that not only serve a purpose but also ignite the imagination. With projects like “The Hermes Project”, it’s about pushing boundaries, challenging norms, and creating a unique narrative through design. It’s a thrilling journey of discovery, creativity, and innovation!

    What was the inspiration?

My mom is my rock, my guiding star. She wasn’t just selling curtains, bedsheets, and duvets, while growing up. She was weaving dreams. I remember how she would take my brothers and I along to her projects, showing us the magic of creation. Her determination, her relentless pursuit of new clients, moving from one unfinished house to another, marketing her business was inspiring. She didn’t just work hard, she worked smart, and that’s what made her business thrive. So, yes, she is my greatest inspiration. Her spirit, her tenacity, that’s what I carry with me in every project I design and deliver.

What are some of the things you produce or work on?

As a Creative Director, I don’t just craft furniture, I bring dreams to life. From unique TV units to stunning sofas, chic coffee tables, and cozy throw pillows, each creation is a masterpiece. But there’s more! I take on larger than-life projects, transforming an empty shell into a warm, inviting home/office. From the carcass to the final furnishing touches, every project is a journey. Be it residential or commercial, each canvas is filled with creativity and meticulous attention to detail, painting a picture of comfort and style.

What are some of the challenges?

In this industry, challenges are part of the journey. From sourcing top-notch materials, sometimes even importing them, to managing artisans with diverse skills can be quite a ride. Coupled with the task of meeting clients’ unique tastes and striking the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics, it’s certainly not a walk in the park. But the thrill of overcoming these hurdles and seeing the final masterpiece. Absolutely priceless.

Oh, there are so many memorable moments! One that stands out is when we completed “The Hermes Project”. Seeing our vision come to life and the client’s reaction was truly unforgettable. Each project brings its own unique experiences and challenges, making this journey incredibly rewarding.

Not many women are carpenters or furniture makers what motivated your interest?

There are actually a lot of women in my field. I’ll say Interior Design is a female dominated field. And that’s exactly part of what sparked my interest. I saw it as a chance to shake things up more, bring in a fresh wave of creativity, The sheer joy of crafting bespoke pieces and breathing life into spaces is just too enticing to resist! Plus, I’ve always had this knack for transforming and beautifying things. Back in the days, my friends even nicknamed me “Cindy the Pimper” because anything I touched would instantly sparkle and dazzle. It was like magic! So, this sector felt like a natural fit for my talents.

Tell us about the Hermes Project?

“The Hermes Project” was an exciting journey of creativity and innovation. We drew our inspiration from the renowned Hermes brand, which is known for its unique and timeless elegance. This project allowed us to channel that same elegance into our bespoke furniture pieces. Each piece was meticulously designed and crafted, reflecting the perfect blend of style and function. It was more than just a project; it was a testament to our commitment to delivering high-quality, custom interior design solutions that push the boundaries of the ordinary and venture into the extraordinary.

What are some of the lessons learnt in life and your career?

Life and career have taught me a lot. One key lesson is that patience and persistence are crucial. In my career, especially with “The Hermes Project”, I’ve learned that great things take time. Also, embracing change and being adaptable is vital. Whether it’s a sudden shift in design trends or a client’s change of heart, flexibility has been my ally. Lastly, never stop learning. Every project, every client, every challenge is a chance to learn and grow. It’s a journey, not a race.

What are the other things that occupy your time?

In addition to my fascination with creating bespoke furniture pieces and transforming bare spaces into something beautiful, I find myself deeply engaged in connecting and finalizing deals with potential clients. When time allows, I relish the opportunity to explore the world through travel. It’s a harmonious blend of work and passion for me.

Tell us about the turning point in your career?

The moment that truly pivoted my career was when I took on “The Project Brooklyn”. It was like diving into a whole new universe, filled with challenges. It pushed me to think outside the box and the client was super amazing, giving me total creative freedom. So, I was able to sprinkle my creativity and infuse my unique touch into the project, making it distinctive. It was more than just a project, it was a game-changer that totally jazzed up my career.

Let’s talk about the people you admire?

When I think about the people I admire, First, I would say my parents. Because I am drawn to those who aren’t afraid to be different, who challenge the status quo and they did. I also admire people who see beauty in everything and have a knack for transforming ordinary things into extraordinary ones. I’m inspired by those who understand that success takes patience, persistence, and continuous learning. And lastly, I deeply respect people who can balance their work with their passion.

If you had to advise young people who want to come into the sector, what will you tell them?

For anyone wanting to dive into this creative sector, I would say, don’t be afraid to bring your fresh perspective and challenge the norm. Remember, patience and persistence are key. Be ready to adapt and keep learning because trends change and so should you. And most importantly, find joy in the work. When you love what you do, like crafting a piece of furniture or designing an interior, it shines through in the end result. So, go ahead, transform and beautify the world around you!

What are you looking forward to in the next few years?

In the next few years, I am really looking forward to seeing how my journey in the Interior Design and Real Estate sector unfolds. I.am eager to take on more challenging projects, push my creative boundaries further, and hopefully, start mentoring the next generation of creatives. I can’t wait to see where this path takes me.

Who or what do you consider as the greatest influence in your life?

I will say my mom and dad, along with my passion for design and creativity, has been the greatest influence in my life. Their strength and wisdom have been invaluable. In the custom furniture and interior design sector, I am surrounded by talented women, and I am inspired every day to bring my unique perspective to this creative field. My new songs assure of God’s victory – Lilian Nneka Nneji

Gospel singer Lilian Nneka Nneji has stated that Nigerians can look forward to her new set of songs in October which talk about confidence that Nigerians will overcome every hurdle and enemity on their paths.

Nneji, also a worship leader with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), said the songs also assure every believer that “God is taking us to a place of victory.”

The gospel minister, who released her first album in 2011, noted that the journey had not been easy but God has been faithful to her family and calling.

She said: “The journey has still not been easy I must say. You know as a mother, wife, pastor’s wife, sister, CEO etc and etc; juggling all of these in-between makes it more challenging as I still need to take care of everything and then do the music ministry at the same time. It is a whole lot but I must confess that God has helped me thus far. I’m standing today because God showed me mercy and gave me grace as in enough grace to run everything at the same time.

“Time and finance have been major challenges for me. I have several unreleased songs due to the fact that I have not been able to create time in the midst of my tight schedules and then finance to do a very quality production; music production runs into millions  these days but I know God will help me.”

When asked what messages the church and Nigerians need at the present times, she said: “The country is going through tough times and there’s so much pressure on people leading many to depression and it’s like, Nigerians needs songs that will encourage them to wait on God and the songs of Praises and Thanksgiving to God; after all only the living can feed.

“The major problem of Nigerian leaders is that they have allowed the spirit of greed to overshadow them and they feel they don’t need God  in running the government of Nigeria,  I will advise them to have the fear of God in their hearts and to go back to God for counsel on how to rule this nation Nigeria,  I must say with my little experience abroad I can say Nigeria is extremely blessed.”

Speaking on her next big project, she said, “Nigerians should expect a praise medley this October, it’s going to be a great blessing to many. I’m also working on so many other songs which will be released soon as well.

“Like I said it’s a medley comprising of four (4) different songs, it’s in English,  Yoruba and igbo,  the songs are simply telling how good God is to us regardless what we are passing through as a nation and also assuring us that everything troubling us as a nation will be crushed by the Almighty God and then in the end God is taking us to a place of victory. It’s a song that will really really bless us that I can tell.

“Nigerians should keep trusting God, he definitely has great plans for us. Nigeria belongs to God and he won’t abandon us now that we need him the most. We can’t even afford not to trust God now that there are wars going on everywhere.  In God alone we would trust.”
