2025: Nigeria’s situation not irredeemable, says CAC Canada-based Nigeria cleric

Pastor of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) branch in Canada, Nigerian Amos Dada has revealed God’s mind for the world in 2025.

Pastor Dada declared that 2025 will be a year of vengeance for the wicked and a year of great opportunities and breakthroughs for righteous and obedient Christians.

Pastor Dada divided the prophecies for 2025 into three categories according to divine guidance, saying: “Firstly, looking at prophecies over the years and for years to come, there are three broad areas: blessings, opportunities, and challenges. Every New Year comes loaded with these packages: blessings, challenges, and opportunities. They are all wrapped in all human endeavours: marriage, finances, career, health, governance, relationships, and ministry.”

He further explained the importance of believing in prophets, grounding genuine prophecies in Scripture, and the necessity of diligence to experience the fulfillment of prophecies.

Having clarified the foregoing, Pastor Dada made the following declaration as 2025 prophecies of blessings: “The Lord says the year 2025 shall be a year of Jubilee and settlement.” He cited Lev 25:9-13 to support the prophetic declaration in God’s words.

“Fourthly, prophecies are not automatic; you must do your own diligence to experience them. If God says you will become a medical doctor and you don’t apply to university, it will not come to pass. There are miracles where God, in His sovereignty, does what He wants to do, delivering people from oppression or sickness; that is not in doubt,” he declared.

Having clarified the foregoing, the CAC Canadian branch leader made the following declaration as 2025 prophecies of blessings: “The Lord says the year 2025 shall be a year of Jubilee and settlement.” He cited Lev 25:9-13 to ground the prophetic declaration in God’s words.

“Specifically, verses 12-13 of the Biblical passage reads this;” For it is the jubilee; it shall be holy unto you: ye shall eat the increase thereof out of the field. 13 in the year of this jubilee ye shall return every man unto his possession.”

Pastor Dada also declared that: “God says He will settle you this year. Say God will settle me. Where do you desire to be settled- Heaven shall settle you.  He settled Sarah, He settled Hannah, He settled Zachariah and Elizabeth, He settled David; He settled Joseph; He settled Daniel, He will settle you”. He declared, quoting Gen 21: 1, to assure all of this prophecy.

The cleric also declared that 2025 shall be a year of liberty to excel for all who trust in and serve God. He assured that God has promised to free His people from evil taskmasters. He also assured that there shall be rest and deliverance from oppression for Nigerians who are dedicated to God, citing Isaiah 62:2-4 to back up God’s promises for His people.

Assuring further on God’s blessings for His people in 2025, Pastor Dada assured that many shall possess their possessions this year, experience financial breakthrough, greatness in Ministry and business endeavours and enjoy long life and protection from evil.

Speaking on the opportunities God has programmed for His people in 2025, Pastor Dada declared: “God says it shall be a year of great opportunities for His children. God says He will bring opportunities your way in this coming year, from the west, southeast, and north. Do your diligence to grab it. I saw a well full of water and people were fetching it with their buckets, of different sizes. May you have the right bucket to fetch your water. Business opportunities, investment opportunities, career opportunity’s, opportunities in the manufacturing sector, real estate, financial sector ministry.”

He also declared that everyone who trusts in God and is obedient to His ways will experience increases and signs and wonders in every area of their life and quoted Isaiah 8:18, as scriptural assurance for these prophecies.

On challenges, the cleric admonished that God says the year 2025 will be full of challenges, upheaval, wars, climbing inflation, pestilence, political instability, and strange occurrences, however, declared: “But you shall overcome. You will not be swept off. God says I should tell you not to panic. You shall not be consumed.”

For God’s promises to be fulfilled, Pastor Dada urged Christians to be more dedicated preachers and worshippers, not minding the need to face the daunting challenges of being a devoted Christian.

“God say run away from sin- Live holy life. Live a life of integrity…God says to seek His power, not occultic power. Not mammy water power. Put your trust in Him Not humans who are saddled with frailties and have limited abilities. He will empower you and you will experience greatness”, he cautioned.

Addressing Nigeria in particular, Pastor Dada said God is ready to: “…turn things around in Nigeria. God says Nigeria’s problem is not insurmountable if the people are prepared to live holy lives, corrupt free lives he will turn around their fortune. God says He will visit with vengeance those that are taking Him for granted in Nigeria and around the world in the year 2025,” he warned.

Pastor Dada also hinted on how the prophecies for 2025 would be fulfilled saying: “Remember Prophesies are like GPS – They guide you. But if you do not drive and sit in your car you will not get to your desired destination. If He guides you and you refuse to follow, you may not get to your destination. The word of God is your GPS

When the angel visited Mary and said: “thou art highly favoured, you will conceive”, Mary asked a relevant question, “How shall this be?” I perceive you are asking a similar question.

“God will give you information, a road map about your future, about opportunities, and your enemies, where there are land mines, and He will not just fight for you and give you assurances of victory but assurance of His Presence, that will lead you to victory. God will give you information about your career, business family, and relations investment opportunities. God will expect you to work hard and work smart.

“God will expect you to make use of every opportunity. Not to waste the opportunity. The story was told: “Time tied to opportunity An ancient Greek statue depicted a man with wings on his feet, a large lock of hair on the front of his head, and no hair at all on the back. Beneath was the inscription: “Who made thee? Lysippos made me. What is thy name? My name is OPPORTUNITY. Why hast thou wings on thy feet? That I may fly away swiftly. Why hast thou a great forelock? That men may seize me when I come. Why art thou bald in the back? That when I am gone by, none can lay hold of me.” From my book, titled:” Redeeming The Time “.

  • ‘It’s sign of peace when you see people who should be in battlefield playing sports’

‘It’s sign of peace when you see people who should be in battlefield playing sports’

Major General Maikano Abdulahi is a distinguished military officer and an advocate for the transformative power of sports in fostering unity, discipline and peace. As President of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OMSA), he played a leading role in the successful hosting of the recently concluded African Military Games Abuja 2024 (AMGA2024). Kalu Okoronkwo caught up with him for an interview.

Tell us a bit about your career and background in sports.

My name is Major General Maikano Abdulahi; I am the President of Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OMSA). OMSA is not an English name, OMSA is a French name meaning Organization de sports Militari in Africa, but when you translate in English, it will give you Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OMSA). I am the 5th President. I am also the vice president of CISM – Militari de Sport Council (in French), which is the International Military Sports Council, when translated in English. OSMA was formed from CISM about 20 years ago. CISM was formed about 76 years ago, immediately after the Second World War. Five countries came together to form it, with the sole aim of fostering unity, stability and understanding among the armed forces of the world. And they fixed our motto as “Friendship through Sports.” It was from there OSMA was formed. It was started by five Generals in Africa, among whom were General Ishola Williams of Nigeria, Col Poten of Senegal and Col Habul of Cameroon. This OSMA was accepted and endorsed by the CISM General Assembly. It was approved and accepted by the African Union delegates led by the former President of Algeria, Late Abdelaziz Bouteflika. From there we started our programme. We have African Military Football Championship, African Military Handball Championship, African Military Volleyball Championship and Sahel Games, which was established about two years ago. We went to the Heads of States of Africa during the African Union meeting and asked them to host the African Military Games because they are our Commanders- in- Chief. The President of Kenya, Late Daniel Arap-Moi accepted to host the first edition of this game. About 30 African countries participated in that game about 22 years ago. So, the sole aim of this game is not just to come and play football, play handball, basketball, teakwando and go home, but to unite the armed forces of Africa together, unite the officers of African armed forces together; to exchange ideas and understanding of one another. Remember in Africa, we have about four to five languages: English, French, Arabic, Portuguese and Spanish; but you can see that all these languages are no longer a barrier to us, because sport is a universal language. The next question is how does it impact on the African comity vis-à-vis the insecurity issues we are having? Sport is a strong tool used in bringing peace in the society. It is only through sports we forget who we are and focus on the sports. So, sports is a non-kinetic means of bringing the armed forces closer to our civilian counterparts. We use sports as a language for civilians to understand what we are as a military and integrate them with us, because we are part of them; they should come to us and we should go to them. We are not to be seen or heard only in the combat place; but we can be seen in the sports field also, playing like them, playing with them and achieving unity, solidarity and camaraderie among us. That is the aim of hosting this game and we have achieved it.

How has OSMA ensured inclusivity and gender balance in the games?

I will not agree with you that sport is seen as a male thing. If you say about 100 years ago that sport is biased to gender, I can agree with you; but nowadays, sports encompass male and female and that is what you can see here in our African Military Games. We have many female athletes competing in this game. We have zero barrier between male and female. We all call ourselves men of the service. In these games, we also try to bring all the genders together in search of peace, in search of unity and understanding. There is no barrier at all.

Can you tell us specifically how the collaboration between OSMA and AMGA 2024 has impacted on the Games?

When OSMA was created many years ago, we asked ourselves: what is our aim? Our aim is to bring the armed forces in Africa together. So, the question here is, how are we going to bring the armed forces together? Is it by weapons? Is it by carrying arms? Is it by eating food? We said let’s use sports to bring the armed forces together.

That gave rise to the African Military Games where we can have as many sporting activities as possible; so all the African countries will come and participate, that is where the idea came from. Then we can achieve unity; then we can achieve understanding and we can also achieve collaboration. For instance, in this game, there are some grants that will come in the next few days. Chiefs of Defense Staff of other countries will be here to grace the closing ceremony. If they come, there will be a discussion between our CDS and other nations’ CDS. By these activities, there is understating and collaborations. That is why the theme of this year’s game is: “Enhancing Military Cooperation through Sport.”

As Vice President of CISM and President of OSMA, are there plans to bring CISM to impact on AMGA, given that the initiative is gaining prominence?

No, we have the international body that takes care of international Military sports. About three years ago, we held the World Military Games in Wuhan, China. About 100 countries participated with about 30 to 32 coming from Africa. So, the world body has its own duty; it is left for Africa to organise, improve and make sure that the African Military Sports moves to the next level of understanding, next level of making sure that our own activity is well planned and executed. The world body can only come as observers, if we invite them.  For instance, the President of the World body is coming during the closing ceremony. The Secretary General and Ambassador of CISM was here during the opening ceremony to see how we are performing and he will still be here for the closing ceremony. That is the collaboration. But in terms of financial or organisational collaboration, there is no such things. As Africans, we are of age to take care of ourselves. We contribute to the world body both financially and organisationally. So Africa, like other regional bodies such as the Asian Military body, the American Military body that make up the world body, are independent.

The significant aspect of AMGA 2024 was that some countries who had excused themselves from the ECOWAS were part of the games in Abuja. What role did OSMA play to make this a reality?

What I forgot to mention earlier is that our organisation is an apolitical organisation. So, we don’t involve ourselves in any political issue. But we are 100% submissive to the political leadership of our nations.  We are not involved in any political interference; that is why when we send our invitation to all African countries, irrespective of whatever, they all agreed to participate. Some countries were not here before the start of the games, because of genuine reasons. Niger Republic were about to come when their flight developed some problems. Congo Kinshaha were leaving their camp area to the headquarters of their country, their boat sank and about 10 of their athletes died; so you don’t expect them to come and participate. Chad, about two weeks ago, had an attack which left about 50 of their soldiers dead; that made it impossible for their soldiers to come. Majority of them were here, some as observers and others came with their athletes. That is why you find our West African brothers like Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea Conakry, were all here to participate – because military is a universal language.

What can you say were the challenges you faced in hosting this event?

If I say, we didn’t have challenges, would you believe me? My headquarters is in Yaoundé, not in Nigeria, but I decided to stay in Nigeria for the execution of the games and presently, I am a Nigerian. Second issue is that I am a sports person. Everyone that knows me knows me because of sports. So, the challenge I was facing was different anticipation from people. If anybody he wants anything, they will say go to General Maikano; forgetting they have a Local Organising Committee. It is just like FIFA giving the hosting right to Nigeria for U-17 World Cup, do you expect the president of FIFA to come here and organise the U-17 for Nigeria? We have the Local Organising Committee by the government, so we only came here as guests and to monitor the games? But people do not understand, they think I am the one organising because I am a Nigerian. So, everybody, even those that I think are elites don’t understand. Everyone is coming to me, you are organising African Games, I will say I am not the one, they will say, okay you are not but still you can do something. But luckily I have a very wonderful, courageous, humble and understandable Chief of Defense Staff; that is General Christopher Musa. He has taken over all my worries and done very well to make sure that this game succeeds. And you also know that he is a sportsman; so, he knows the importance of sports.

After the first edition of the Games in Kenya about 22 years ago, Nigeria couldn’t host the game due to one challenge or the other; given the magnitude of preparation seen in this game, what can you say were the improvements from the first edition?

The only improvement is the modernization. Anything you do 20 years ago, and you are doing this year, they must be an improvement and modernisation. The Squadron system, the track system, the opening ceremony fireworks and closing ceremony, the kind of musical interlude, are some of the innovations we had. They were not there during the first edition. We used electronic method of scoring in most of the sports. Transportation and feeding were better than 20 years ago.

Can you tell me about your previous sporting activities, which sports was your favorite and how far have you taken it to?

I was a basketballer. I played at the national level. I represented my state, Sokoto. I played for Bauchi State, the Armed forces Team. All through my university and other schools I attended, I was in sports. I was director of sports in most of the institutions I attended. When I joined the Nigerian Army, I was posted to the sports directorate to continue my sporting activities. I was posted to the Military Sports Council Board in West Africa at a time as Technical Sports Officer. When I came back to Nigeria after my assignment, the president of OSMA organised election and I was elected as President. I won the election by 75%. Four countries contested the election with me. So, sport is in me and anybody you mention my name to from our contemporaries, they will say, Maikano is a Volleyballer, or Sports Administrator or sports organiser. My name is synonymous with sports.

Finally, what message will you want to share with athletes from nations that participated in the games?

I mentioned to them during the opening ceremony that they should contest fiercely buy fairly and they should understand that we are here not only to win medals but to unite ourselves as Africans. We are here to understand our culture as Africans; we are here to know ourselves and we are here to show the world that Africa has come of age. Africa is in peace despite the issues here and there. Any place in the world where they are playing sports, that translates that the nation is in peace. So if we can come here, about 22 African countries, we are here playing sports, and even those who should be seen in the battle field are here playing sports, that means Nigeria is in peace whether we believe it or not.

  • Bad news for oil thieves at Tantita’s night of glory

Bad news for oil thieves at Tantita’s night of glory

Recently, stakeholders gathered in Warri, Delta State to reflect on how Tantita Security Services Limited came, saw and has continued to conquer the menace of oil theft in the Niger Delta. Mike Odiegwu, who was at the event, which doubled as an end of the year party and awards night, reports.

Nigeria‘s oil production has gone up. It has hit a remarkable figure of two million barrels per day. Insider sources from the Tantita Security Services Limited said if all the repairs on leaking pipelines are carried out, the current production will reach an unimaginable 2.5 million barrels per day.

It was never imagined about five years ago that the country’s oil production could hit such a figure. Prior to 2022, Nigerian oil production was in a big mess. It was infested by the virus of oil theft. Criminal elements devised various means to steal crude oil from pipelines, oil wells and other conveyor belts of crude oil.

To get the crude, they burst pipelines, tapped lines and oil wells. Various illegal oil businesses boomed. Economic saboteurs were having a field day enriching themselves overnight and allowing the odour of raw crude oil saturate the atmosphere. Illegal refining of crude by notoriously skilled local engineers was dominant. Illegal refineries proliferated, as many community folks turned cooking of crude oil to personal, family and community business.

They cooked diesel, kerosene and fuel. It never mattered that most times their cooking factories exploded and roasted thousands of them alive. Such incidents permanently destroyed the environment and rendered many water bodies useless.  Many died but others living were not deterred. They continued growing the criminal empire of economic sabotage.

The atmosphere was dotted with billowing smokes wafting from such cooking centres, which were mostly located inside thick forests. Different respiratory diseases engulfed creeks and urban centres, as soots descended from the sky and settled in homes and nostrils staining shirts and floors. The activities of oil thieves made living in the Niger Delta life threatening.

Prior to 2022, the economy, which depends heavily on oil, continued to haemorrhage. Nigeria lost significant revenue and resorted to borrowing massively for survival.

But all that has changed, thanks to the Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) founded by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly called Tompolo.

Recently, stakeholders gathered in Warri, Delta State to reflect on how Tantita came, saw and continued to conquer the menace of oil theft in the Niger Delta. It was an end of year party and award night organised by the management of Tantita.

The Managing Director, TSSNL, Chief Kestin Pondi, described the period before 2022 as a dark time for the oil industry. He recalled that oil production vices were high, measuring about 36.69million barrels, with daily production output hovering within 800,000 to 900,000 barrels per day.

After the engagement of Tantita, the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) reported that crude oil production vices reduced to 7.68 million barrels, 79 per cent decrease.

Reducing such crime rate within two years of operation in a complex and life threatening environment is not a tea party. Pondi said sacrifices were made. High level operational strategies were formulated and diligently prosecuted. Lives of Tantita workers, security personnel and informants were lost. Consistent patrols, negotiations and stakeholders’ engagements were carried out.

To buttress the level of operations deployed to ward off oil thieves and stabilise the economy, Pondi said from 2022 to November 2024, Tantita warriors in their unparallel commitment and resilience to fight oil theft discovered 3,963 incidents of crude oil theft. Out of the number 702 were illegal connections, 971 were cases of theft, 1,784 were illegal refinery cases and 204 cases of diversion.

The efforts to clean the augen stable led to massive results. Reeling out the facts, Pondi said the Tantita team apprehended eight vessels, three tugboats, six barges, 117 vehicles, 52 tankers, 47 fiber speedboats, tricycles and motorcycles as well as 1,743 wooden boats used by economic saboteurs to steal crude and other petroleum products.

The Managing Director said: “While it could be exhaustive to highlight every detail of our activities to curtail oil theft, a whole lot of other discoveries had been made by our team that has subsumed the scourge of oil theft.

“Our success is rooted in the collaboration and the support we have received from the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration whose commitment and partnership has strengthened our resolve and defined our impact.

“The battle is not just about protecting the nation’s oil and gas; it is a mission to secure the future of Nigeria. At Tantita, we have embraced the responsibility with unwavering resolve and I am proud to say we are making significant progress.”

Pondi did not forget all the partners and collaborators that had contributed to the success story of Tantita. Security agencies such as the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the police and the Department of State Security (DSS) are working closely with Tantita to drive oil thieves and saboteurs out of the creeks.

There are also informants, who help in exposing the nefarious activities of oil thieves. Some of the informants and security personnel paid the ultimate prize. Therefore, Pondi called for a minute of silence for such individuals who were so patriotic that they surrendered their lives for the progress of the country’s economy.

Pondi did not fail to recognize Mele Kyari and his board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, who despite all pressures, took the bold step to set up the security architecture. He further poured encomium on the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government for all its support and determination to end all forms of economic sabotage.

He said: “While we count our success story, we will not forget those, who paid the ultimate prize; the ones whose blood our success rests on especially the personnel of the Nigerian Army, the civil defence corps, key informants and employees of Tantita. They died in the course of ensuring that our nation has a booming economy. We mourn and celebrate their sacrifices”.

Pondi harped on the resilience of the Tantita team. He described members of the team as a collection of individuals, whose collective contributions define the successes in the field, operational room and support services.

“Every member of the Tantita Security plays an indispensable role in achieving our mission. Your courage, diligence and determination inspire us all. Tonight we celebrate you,” he said.

Pondi was right. The strength of Tantita has depended hugely on its collaboration with security agencies such as the Nigerian Navy, the Army, the Air Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Department of State Security (DSS).  They provide the required security cover for Tantita foot soldiers to battle the menace.

Some stakeholders applauded the roles of the NSCDC in Tantita’s operations. They observed that the Commandant-General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, through his Deputy Commandant-General, Philip Ayuba, has been at the forefront of the required success for Tantita. In fact, Dr. Audi was highly represented at the event by Philip Ayuba.

These agencies share same operational strategies, vision and objectives with Tantita, resisting all forms of compromise and inducements by moneybag oil thieves. Like a family united by purpose, they work harmoniously with Tantita to get rid of the demons in the oil sector. Most of them along with Tantita fighters have also paid the supreme prize.

While Pondi spoke, many stakeholders in the hall discussed the leadership, managerial capacity and personal qualities he (Pondi) had deployed to make Tantita succeed in its mission to eradicate all forms of economic sabotage.

They observed that under Pondi, Tantita has gone beyond a mere security outfit to become the emerging way of life in the Niger Delta. Pondi fosters communal living, allowing resources of Tantita to trickle down to all the nooks and crannies of the Niger Delta. His generosity ensures inclusivity of all stakeholders, who now share in the vision of Tantita.

Pondi’s managerial style has given most people in the Niger Delta a sense of belonging. Tantita touches lives; solves common daily problems; gives to the needy, the elderly, students, women, youths and engage idle minds in meaningful ventures.

Therefore, most persons hitherto involved in oil theft were said to have willingly and voluntarily surrendered and embraced Tantita’s vision. Just recently, Pondi intervened and gave N30million to a young lawyer in the region, Etifa Jonathan, who was seeking such money for kidney transplant required to save his life.

They also observed that Pondi’s leadership and generous qualities have kept the workforce of Tantita permanently happy. An elderly man in the hall said the managing director builds houses for the workers; buys them vehicles including their wives and ensures their wives were established in businesses. He has established high level of staff welfare and motivation. The employees reciprocate by diligently executing their tasks and avoiding every form of sabotage and betrayal.

In fact, the event was designed to motivate the staff of Tantita and its partners. Outstanding employees were recognised and sub-contractors were given excellence awards. The employees collectively gave Kestin Pondi an award as an outstanding managing director.

No wonder, Pondi said to them: “As we honour excellence through this award, let it serve as a reminder of what we can achieve when we work together with unity of purpose. It is a testament to the power of team work and shared vision.

“While we celebrate tonight, let’s also look forward with renewed determination. The journey ahead requires better efforts and together with the support of the government, there is no challenge we can’t overcome”.

Therefore, beyond the deployment of kinetic force, Tantita through Kestin Pondi, has deployed its resources and  initiated humanitarian measures to reach all stakeholders and give them a sense of belonging.

In fact, apart from growing the economy, the efforts of Tantita in collaboration with other security agencies have gradually restored the environment of the Niger Delta. The environment is gradually recovering from years of damage caused by illegal refinery operations, pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering.

The water bodies, which hitherto suffered massive pollution and were in disuse, are wearing a new look, following the reduction in the activities of oil thieves in the region. With the restoration of water bodies and the entire environment, people in the region are returning to their traditional occupations of farming and fishing.

A former President of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), Udengs Eradiri, who graced the occasion, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for believing in Tompolo’s Tantita, noting that with its performance, the security outfit has made the President proud. He said having delivered on its mandate, Tantita should be considered for additional responsibilities.

Eradiri said: “The success of Tantita is not something surprising to people like us. I will use this opportunity to firstly thank the President for giving Tantita the opportunity to express itself.

“The benefits Tantita have given to the country is because the Federal Government listened to the cries of the people and decided to engage the Niger Delta people. Tantita has proven that they can do this job. This is a job that many people cannot do and a lot of forces because of interest cannot do.

“Tantita has been able to, without fear or favour, create an economy and security in the Niger Delta and ultimately given money to the Nigerian state. Tantita has brought together young people of the Niger Delta from different facets of the region – Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and other parts of the Niger Delta.

“Tantita has rallied round people in the academia, creeks, community and youths. That is why you see the successes the country had recorded. This company deserves a lot of support from the Federal Government. We call on the government to give Tantita more responsibilities.

Echoing similar sentiments, the Guest Lecturer, Prof. Christopher Nyong, recalled how High Chief Tompolo became the lone voice in the wilderness and how evil oil cabal tried to exterminate him. The lecturer said Tompolo later became the Messiah that came to rescue the oil sector.

Nyong, who is the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, remembered that the economy was at the verge of implosion before Tompolo’s Tantita came to the rescue.

“The economy was almost imploding and there was no sign of help from anybody. In the appointed time the lone voice came to rescue Nigeria from the oil cabal,” he said.

He lamented that despite the vast riches, oil theft and mismanagement emasculated the country’s economy. He said $2.1bn worth of oil was stolen in 2019 and $22.4bn in 2022 before Tantita came into the picture.

What has Tantita done differently? He queried. The professor said the success of Tantita depended largely on its operational modalities, leveraging on community efforts. Besides, he said Tantita has become a tool to fight unemployment in the region, adding that the security outfits currently employs 18,000 youths. He said Tantita also created jobs through its engagement of many sub-contractors.

The end of year party and award night became an opportunity for workers and stakeholders to unwind and dine. Many comedians within and outside the state entertained the guests. Top musicians like Kecee Limpopo thrilled the audience. The presence of a popular Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke and a well-known billionaire socialite and philanthropist, E-Money  among others spiced the occasion.

A tall cake of success and victory was cut by dignitaries to mark the occasion. At the end, it became obvious that the country’s economy rests on the shoulders of Tompolo’s Tantita; and to take the peace in the Niger Delta and the progress in the economy to the next level, the Federal Government and all stakeholders must ignore all forms of blackmail, bile and negative jealousy against Tantita and keep supporting the security outfit to record more breakthroughs.

  • ‘Why we make sure lost passenger luggage are returned intact’

‘Why we make sure lost passenger luggage are returned intact’

Opeyemi Sulaiman Mudashiru, chairman, Agbarijopo Eko Drivers Association, shares with Gboyega Alaka some of the reasons behind the new transport association. He Insists it is not a rival body to the National Union of Road transport Workers (NURTW), but a subgroup to attend to their interests.

With road transport workers across the country viewed with various negative perceptions, it felt like something out of this clime when this reporter got wind of a road transport association in Lagos, where good manners and decorum reign supreme; where drivers are not allowed to drive without a license, resume work in shabby dresses or get behind the steering wheel in bathroom slippers (flip-flop); drink, smoke or even talk back at their passengers, let alone insult them.

As incredible as they sounded, those were not all. The one that nicked it for this reporter was the claim that goods or luggage forgotten in vehicles of members of this association by passengers, which in the past would have been presumed lost, are safe and would be kept safely and returned to the rightful owners once they come with convincing proof – even if it takes one year.

Well, don’t go thinking it is one government-run transport system like the Lagos BRT or even a registered bus transport company, no. This association is made up of drivers of the same bus public transport group, the sky blue coaster buses, who have however chosen to be different.

Speaking to The Nation recently, their chairman, explained:  “My name is Opeyemi Sulaiman Mudashiru, chairman, Federal Assisted Mass Transit Incorporation (FAMTI) now known as Agbarijopo Eko Drivers Association; I am also chairman Oko-Afo-Okoko to CMS route. We are drivers of Federal Assisted Mass Transit buses –the sky blue coaster buses. The association was first formed by drivers of Ojo-Oyingbo route years back, but things did not quite pick up; first because we were not recognised, and secondly because we had a lot of brushes with the union and traffic agencies, even passengers. We have branches everywhere. We have Oko-Afo to Badagry and other routes within Lagos State. The association was born out of a need to address and overcome some of our challenge, which the national body was not able to attend to. Our association is not in conflict with the National Union (NURTW), but a subgroup to take care of our peculiar challenges.

“When we discovered that the existing transport unions weren’t really protective and supportive of us, we decided to come together and be of aid to ourselves. One of such is supporting our vehicles owners whenever the vehicles develop problems; this is so that they can have confidence in us and see us as partners, rather than people who just want to use their vehicles to make money and dump them for another, once they become problematic. In addition, if any member has a problem, we have a way of pulling our resources together to support them financially. Our former chairman, Tajudeen Agbede, was the first to sit down and listen to our grouses. He helped bring down the rates collected on vehicles by the union. We also had the Road Safety Corps and the LASTMA coming to hold regular seminars and workshops with us during his time.

“By the way, we also have a rule that no one of our drivers must be without a drivers’ license, dress shabbily or even wear bathroom slippers on duty.  Also, no drinking or smoking of any kind while on duty. Aside the health benefits, this is to present a good and positive image, because, like you know, image is everything. We want to change the perception that bus drivers are touts.”

Mudashiru is not done, as he went on to add that: “Most importantly, there is no way a passenger will forget his/her goods or luggage in our vehicle and it will go missing or tampered with. Once it is Federal Mass buses, we ensure that they are kept safe until the owner comes forward with convincing evidence to pick them up. In fact, we have a luggage that we recovered over a year ago, it is still here, intact. So if you are looking for a transport association bent on changing the general narrative of poor, disorganised transport service system, we are major, if not number one.

Unfortunately, we have not received any official recognition or benefits from the Lagos State government. For instance, we have never benefited from bus vehicle distribution of the government, which they regularly give to other association/unions. We call on Governor Sanwo-Olu to remember us when the opportunity comes up again.”

On the allegation that road transport workers are capitalising on the current economic situation in the country to extort commuters, Mudashiru said, as a body, they ensure that their drivers do not extort.

“As a matter of fact, we direct our members to have reasonable fares. But you also have to understand that fuel is very expensive now. If we buy fuel of N30,000, we have to recoup and also pay union dues before talking of our own profits.”
