‘People don’t attend churches that cannot meet needs’

Founder of Laughter Foundation International Ministries, otherwise known as babies’ factory, Pastor Gbenga Oso, spoke with Sunday Oguntola on the uniqueness of the church on the eve of its 20th anniversary. Excerpts:

There are people who believe the church should have been a ministry. What would be your reaction to them?

For me, I don’t see any difference between ministry and church. Either church or ministry, there is only one goal – that people should go to the kingdom of God.

And secondly, we meet the physical needs of people. That was what Jesus did when He was here. There were three basic things He did when He was here. He would preach, heal the sick and do deliverance. Then, there were times he fed people with physical foods.

So, Jesus was meeting the spiritual and physical needs of people, which is what a church or ministry is expected to do. If they are sick, they must be healed and live healthy lives. If they don’t have children, they must have children. That is what church or ministry exists to do.

But there is the argument that need-oriented ministries and churches tend to raise people to use, rather than love God. What do you say to this?

A Church or ministry is expected to meet the spiritual and physical needs of people. Doing one without the other means you won’t see people in the church.

The major thing that draws people to God is meeting their physical needs. When you see churches and ministries with population today, it is because they are meeting the physical needs of people. People don’t go to church mostly because they want to hear the word of God or love God. They are going because they have a challenge, which they believe can be addressed in such a church or ministry.

But after you have baited in people, what do you do with them?

In this church, apart from the fact that the main focus is for people to have children, I always say it is not the major emphasis. The major emphasis is to make the kingdom of God and go to heaven because there is life after here.

If someone has all the children and go to hell, it is just a waste of efforts on the part of the pastor and waste of life with the person involved. So, we tell people here that they must serve God, shun ungodliness and love people.

After then, they must have the good things of life. They must have children and have money to take care of them. So, the two are combined. But preaching to people without meeting their needs is not what Jesus sent us to do.

He didn’t do that. He would first of us preach to them and meet their physical needs. And that is what we are doing.

Those with specialised ministries or churches like this impose consultation fees or ask people to do something before sharing testimonies. Is that what obtains here?

That kind of thing is not found in the Bible. It is not part of what we do here at all. During the times of Jesus, he didn’t take money from anybody for consultation or something. We don’t ask people to do that either. People see me when they have to see me; of course they are procedures because of security and all that.

When they have testimonies, we just ask them to write everything in a sheet of paper. We look through and take the ones we consider major. Most times, we always don’t know what they want to say and we never ask them to sow anything.

There are people that do things and there are people that don’t do. What they do depends on what they have. But we have never asked them to do anything or bring anything at all. It is not part of our culture here.

At 20, why is the church not involved in any relationship with Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) or Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN)? Is that deliberate or you have anything against the bodies?

No, we don’t have anything against them. We are a member of CAN, though not registered and all that. If there is a need to do that, we will do. Their officials come here and all that. If there are procedures to follow to register….

… They haven’t told you or you didn’t ask?

Well, they haven’t told me but if I feel the need to do that, we will do it. But if PFN or CAN is doing anything, we will support from here. It is not compulsory all of us register. It is not compulsory, but if there is a reason to register, we will do that. We believe we are a member of the body of Christ in this nation. And if we have to register, we will do that. If anything is needed, we are part of it.

You also don’t invite ministers from outside the church. Is that also deliberate?

That is because this is a highly specialised ministry. We have what we are aiming at; basically praying for people that want children and all that. It is a specialised ministry and God has to have prepared you to be able to do it.

Besides, we have people we have trained in-house to handle our ministrations over the years. So, we don’t really need ministers from outside here.

And you don’t honour invitations from other churches too?

I do but not always most of the time. I just like to face the thing God asked me to do. My joy is to see people that come here receive their breakthrough and all that.

Once in a while, I go to other places but not many times.

Does that mean those who already have children have no place in this church?

They do because the kingdom of God is the basic here. But we have some other programmes in the church, though not the basic. Childbearing is the basic. We know that if members have children and no money to take care of them, they will suffer.

So, first Sunday of every month, after service, we hold a service for like 30 minutes to pray for their careers and businesses. We call it the billionaires’ service. If they don’t become billionaires, they will become multi-millionaires.

We also pray for singles to get married because there are many of them eligible but it is not happening for them. Whether we like it or not, there are reasons beyond them responsible for this.

We also have a prayer service for pregnant women. Women must carry pregnancies for 40 weeks and many of them lose their pregnancies. But we don’t have that here because we pray for them and encourage them to go to good hospitals.

  • ‘Nigeria has too many caterpillars, few pillars’

‘Nigeria has too many caterpillars, few pillars’

General Overseer of Christ Fire Word Evangelism Ministries Lagos, Prophet Israel Owonibi, has declared that God is prepared to deliver the nation from those he described as “caterpillars”.

The caterpillars, according to him, are few elements who have held the nation to ransom for years to satisfy their selfish interests.

Owonibi spoke recently after the annual 40-day prophetic night of the church.

He said: “President Buhari is a good man. He means well for the nation. The bad people have corrupted the nation.

“God would have to remove these caterpillars because they want to destroy the pillars for selfish reasons.

“The pillars are few but the caterpillars are plenty. The caterpillars are destroyers.

“The Lord said they should tell Buhari to release food to the nation. They should not allow hardship to continue.”

The cleric had been with CAC for many years before starting his ministry.

He recalled how he started. “The call had been there before I was born. There was a prophecy that a great prophet would be born into the family and I had a lot of challenges while I was growing up because of this revelation.”

On the roles his wife played in the ministry, Owonibi said: “When I got the call, I told my fiancée but she turned me down. She just didn’t want to be a wife of a minister.

“Ministers of the gospel in those days weren’t successful as you have it now. Their collars and shoes were dirty.

“So, I went to the mountain in Nasarawa and God said He had prepared another woman for me and that I would meet her in an unknown place.

“God revealed her identity to me and I met her on the way to a conference at Arakeji. There I saw a woman that was about to be knocked down by a car and I rushed to her side and saved her life.

“Since that moment, she did not leave me. She has been wonderful in the ministry and very supportive.”

  • Engaging the wonders in the word! (2)

Previously, we established that the Kingdom of God is governed by mysteries that guarantee our command over life’s situations and circumstances. However, these mysteries are divine revelations from scriptures that are wrapped up in biblical simplicities. That is why we must receive, believe and put them to work before we can take delivery of the wonders therein (Luke 8:10-11; Mark 4:11; Ephesians 3:1-5; Colossians 1:25-27; 2 Corinthians 11:3; James 1:22).

Furthermore, we discover that God’s Word is a spiritual mirror that shows us who we are, what we are worth and what we can do. When we catch a glimpse of who God says we are from the mirror/glass of scripture and practice same, we are guaranteed profitable living in Christ Jesus (James 1:23-25). Last week, we examine one of the scriptural pictures that validate our triumphant destiny in Christ Jesus.  This week, we shall explore more scriptural pictures which include:

    • At redemption, there was a change of position: The Bible says: And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6).

When Jesus rose from the dead, every redeemed child of God became a part of His resurrection and is seated with Jesus in heavenly places, far above principalities and powers (Ephesians 1:20-21).

Thus, by redemption, we are above the realms where principalities and powers torment people. When we catch the picture of our new position in Christ from scriptures, our confidence in God and in confronting the powers of darkness, is enhanced (Colossians 1:13; Psalms 119:130).

    • God is a consuming fire: From scriptures, we understand that our God is a consuming fire. We also understand that God’s Word, is God in print. This helps us to understand that God’s Word is a consuming fire that has unlimited capacity to destroy all forms of evil stubbles on our paths (Deuteronomy 4:24; Hebrews 12:29; Daniel 3:17-28; Jeremiah 23:29).
    • Jesus is the Stone in Zion: From scriptures, we understand that Jesus is the Chief Corner Stone. It is written: And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone (Ephesians 2:20).

Also, when the Chief Priests and the Pharisees challenged the authority of Jesus in the temple, He said to them: …Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner… And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder (Matthew 21:42, 44).

According to scripture, every believer is sent after the order of Christ. That means by redemption, we are made lively stones after the order of Christ and as such, we are turned into a rock of offense. Thus, anyone who dares to stop us shall be broken to pieces and those we confront, shall be grinded to powder (John 20:21; 1 Peter 2:5).

We also understand from scripture that Jesus is the living Word of God. That means the Word of God is the Stone in Zion. When we operate in that revelation, the Word turns us into rocks of offense in Zion. This gives us another picture of our triumph in Christ by the Word of God.

However, it is not enough to recognise the wonders in God’s Word; we must identify the channels of impartation that guarantee our triumphant destiny in redemption.

What, then, are the Channels through which scriptural wonders flow?

    • Prophetic proclamations: The Bible says: Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy (1 Timothy 4:14; Hosea 12:13).
    • Laying on of hands: We can experience impartation of grace and transference of spirits via laying on of hands (2 Timothy 1:6-7).
    • Through the prophetic mantle: God’s prophets do not only carry the anointing on their bodies but it also overflows to their garments. The Psalmist, speaking of Jesus in prophecy said:

All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad (Psalms 45:8; Matthew 14:35-36).

However, to access the flow of wonders in God’s Word through the mantle, we must engage the following:

    • Believe in God’s prophet: It is our sense of value that determines the flow of virtue. As it is written: And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward (Matthew 10:42).
    • Believe that the prophet is sent to us for a change of story (Luke 4:25-27).
    • We must believe that the prophet occupies a higher place than we do in God: Remember, water never flows uphill but downhill (Psalms 133:1-3; Hebrews 7:7).

When we submit ourselves to these demands, we tap into the flow of virtue through the prophetic mantle of God’s anointed prophet.

In conclusion, we must understand that every book in the world is made up of letters, only the Bible is made up of wonders. However, until we receive, believe and practice the demands therein, we are not entitled to the wonders embedded in God’s Word. It is, therefore, my prayer that you will be imparted with grace for a diligent search of scriptures, for the wonders therein to be visible in your life! Remain ever blessed!

Are you born again? If you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, you can do so as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!”

  • How to fight corruption better, by Korode

How to fight corruption better, by Korode

General Leader of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Surulere district Lagos, Prophet Sunday Korode, has hailed the anti-corruption war of the current administration.

President Muhammadu Buhari, he said, has demonstrated enough courage and determination to rid the nation of corruption.

He, however, said the war can be fought better with prosecution of looters and deploying the loots to reviving the nation’s ailing economy.

Korode spoke last week during a courtesy visit with the leadership of the district to headquarters of Vintage Press Limited, publishers of The Nation newspapers, in Lagos.

He said there was no doubt that corruption was being fought by the current administration.

He, however, lamented Nigerians have not bought into the idea, leaving only the executive to fight graft.

According to him: “The current administration has fought corruption commendably. It has done well but not well enough.

“They need to move it a little bit strategically. It appears only the executive is fighting the war. Except the legislature and judiciary as well as Nigerians buy into it, we won’t do well.”

On how to fight the war better, he called for comprehensive completion of all cases of loots and corruption in courts.

“We must start prosecuting looters as soon as possible. That is the only thing that will discourage others.

“Also, there must be full disclosure of the actual recovered loots. They have started but must go deep to uproot corruption,” Korode stressed.

He said recovered loots must also be deployed immediately to cushion the effects of recession.

Korode called on the federal government to assemble economic eggheads to “move the nation from possibilities to realities.”

He assured that the church is disposed to engaging in rigorous advocacy and media evangelism targeted at “spiritually fumigating the nation’s Augean of negatives.”

  • Motailatu opens new branch in Ondo

Motailatu opens new branch in Ondo

The tentacles of fast-growing Motailatu Church Cherubim and Seraphim Worldwide (MCCSW) spread further last week with the inauguration of Saint Isaiah Motailatu Akinadewo Cathedral, Christ Land in Oka, Ondo State.

The inauguration was climax of a three-day crusade in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ondo State chapter, tagged total transformation with the theme restoration of lost glory.

Hundreds converged on the facility of the church from within Ondo and neighbouring towns as well as adjoining states to witness the occasion.

Speaking at the inaugural service, the chairman of CAN Lagos State chapter, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, said churches and individuals as well as nations must return to God for the total restoration of lost glories.

He lamented that churches have become mere buildings without the presence and power of God.

“Nations have lost the glory of God. Families have lost the glory of God. Tribes have lost the glory of God. Individuals have lost the glory of God.

“Lamentably, the church of today worldwide has lost the glory of God. The glory of God consists of His power, that is why the church is devoid of power.

“We are just amusing ourselves and making noise because God is not there. I stand upon it and I repeat it. Tell me where do you see the power? Is it where they are gathered in millions?” he said.

On the way out, Bamgbola assured that God would restore the years that the agents of the devil have eaten on the condition that individuals return to God in genuine repentance.

“The one condition is that we return to him in repentance with godly sorrow like the prodigal son. Whosoever that decides to return to God shall be restored.

“There is no glory except we are deceiving ourselves, we have lost it. We need the glory of God.

“There are fundamental things we must know to make heaven. We need pure hearts to make heaven. We need to return to God for the sake of heaven,” he stressed.

Prelate and Supreme Head of the church, Elder Dr Israel

Akinadewo, also called for repentance for genuine restoration.

“God is the only one that can give glory. We need to separate ourselves from sin and return to him. To regain Nigeria’s lost glory, all hands must be on deck; it is only God who can do it.

“You only see people running to God when things have gone worst. We should make our supplications known to God and fast.”

Akinadewo said the church would from time to time hold crusades across states for expansion.

  • God has the final say

It is scripturally affirmed that when one is determined to get to a higher level or be somebody of importance in the society and can compliment same with discipline and diligence, dreams will be achievable. Paul, in his epistle to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 3:6-7 cf Philippians 4:13) however elucidated further on that axiom, that determination, discipline and diligence will only guarantee result if it has the backing of the Almighty God. It therefore does not matter how much of conventional efforts one put into the things of life or the atrociousness of opposition from close or far quarters aimed at eliding God’s purpose for man, life or nation, the Almighty God has the final say, and His will shall superimpose other wills, schemes and desires (Romans 9:15-16; Ecclesiastes 9:11)

Joseph was a man that God loaded with horrendous moral cum spiritual abilities and prepared for the top. Israel in a show of love made him a coat of many colors which became the kickoff for strong antipathy by his brethren. To compound this envy and animosity, Joseph in obvious innocence, shared his dreams with the brethren that hated him (Genesis 37:7,9) which made them desire to truncate divine purpose and consequently sold him into slavery (Genesis 37:25-28). The will and desire of Joseph’s brethren was to annul God’s plan forgetting that the Almighty God has the capacity to disappoint the devices of the crafty so that their hands are forbidden from performing their evil enterprise (Job 5:12). From slavery, God took over, guided his steps and ordered his movement to the place of dream actualization. He was transited from the hands of the Midianites to the house of Potiphar, moved to the prison for an offense he never committed and from there he was catapulted to the highest position in Egypt. Beloved in Christ, it doesn’t matter where you are now and what you are facing, God has the capacity to, and shall, take you from where you are to where He has destined for you, in the name of Jesus.

At what junction are you presently in life? Are people ganging up against you because of your “coat of many colours”? Are you being maligned and destroyed by people that are close to you as a result of your dreams? Has opposition been stirred against you by agents of darkness and kingdom of wickedness? Have you been sold out to a location where they opine that your star will not be manifest? Are you in trouble without having your hand in sin? Have you, even in your innocence, been convicted by powers that are superior to you or you have been consigned to the prison and it looks like all is lost? There is hope for you! The Almighty God has the final say, and not any man. Even if you have been tried in the court of public opinion and found guilty – God has the final say.

When God steps into your life, He suspends opinion polls that have confirmed you as a failure and changes you from a perceived underdog to the favorite (Isaiah 60:15); when He steps in, He changes your story and reverses everything that has been against you. Besides, He will ensure that as people associate themselves against you, they are broken in pieces and as they gird themselves, the anointing of God shall break them into irreplaceable pieces. As they gather to take take counsel against you, their counsel shall come to nought and whatever evil word they have been spoken or speaking against you and God’s plan cum purpose for your life shall be made ineffective (Isaiah 8:9-10). This shall be your portion in the name of Jesus.

What you need to do is come to Jesus, confess your sins to Him, depart from every evil ways, trust in Him with all your heart and don’t lean on your understanding (cf 1 Samuel 2:9). In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear God and depart from evil (Proverbs 3:5-7). God shall frustrate every evil counsel against you and all yours in the name of Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, I commit our affairs unto you, frustrate the counsel of man and let your will alone be done in my life, in Jesus’ name.

  • Power belongs to God!

Text:”…..Nebuchadnezzar……was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen…….” (Daniel 4:33)

God is not only the Ancient of days (Daniel 7:9,13,22), He is the Almighty God (Gen. 17:1). He has all powers at His command (Psalm 62:11) and gives it to whosoever He wills (Romans 13:1). He said that, “By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth” (Proverbs 8:15-16). More importantly, He has power to install whosoever He wills as king and at His perogative, He can remove installed kings. When the Israelites demanded for a king, He was the One that gave them Saul the son of Kish, but when Saul went against His command, the Strength of Israel didn’t look at his penitent outlook and plea to give him another chance; He rejected, removed and replaced him in a jiffy (1Samuel 15).

King Nebuchadnezzar was a very powerful King over Babylon. He had God’s delegated powers and authorities “… over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant” (Jeremiah 1:10). One day however, King Nebuchadnezzar became self-conceited about all that God had blessed his life with and appropriated all the blessings to himself – he became so garrulous and egocentric (Daniel 4:29-31). “…….But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him” (Daniel 5:19-29) King Nebuchadnezzar was chased out of the palace like an animal because of pride but when his sense was restored, he begged God for forgiveness and was restored after many years in the forest as an animal (Daniel 4:34-37).

It was the same with King Herod when one day, he adorned himself in royal apparel, gave an oration that made the people answer him that, “…… It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost” (Acts 12:22-23). He died like a flower that is plucked in its bloom!

Beloved, whatever you are, who you are, where you are and the position you occupy, they are all products of God’s grace, and surely not predicated on your works (Ephesians 2:8-9). The only sustaining grace that is available to lift up, keep you standing and never allow you go down in relevance, influence and power is humility. Jesus Christ was an example of humility. Despite being God, He humbled Himself to the gruesomely end on the Cross of Calvary. On the third day God raised Him from the dead and rewarded Him with a name that is above every other names and that at the mention of His name every knee shall surrender – Halleluyah! (Phil. 2:6-11). It is based on this backdrop that Paul the Apostle admonished in Philippians 2:5 of the indispensability of having the same mind of humility like Jesus Christ. Brethren, if you don’t want the hand of God to be against you and beginning from today, kindly ascribe all glory and honor to whom it is due (God Almighty) and take off that toga of pride because it will only lead to shame (Proverbs 11:2), bring quarrels (Proverbs 13:-10), lead to destruction (Proverbs 16:18) and bring down from the lofty height like King Nebuchadnezzar (Proverbs 29:23).

During this time of lent brethren, take stock of areas where you have been exhibiting pride, ask God for forgive you, pray for the spirit of humility, amend your ways, learn to accommodate others, extend your hand of love to all around you, live in love with everyone and pray for grace of lift up. As Jesus Christ lives, you shall be located with a testimony that will shock you and astound the world; instead of going down, you shall continue to be lifted in Jesus’ name

Prayers: Father, deliver me from pride and clothe me with the garment of humility all the days of my life, in Jesus’ name.

  • Engaging the wonders in the word!

Engaging the wonders in the word!

God’s Word is pregnant with wonders. It is written: Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law (Psalms 119:18).

However, until we believe what the Word says about us, God is not committed to perform it. As it is written: And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord (Luke 1:45; see also Genesis 13:14-15; Deuteronomy 28:1-13).

It is also important to know that the Kingdom of God is governed by mysteries, through which we command mastery over life’s situations and circumstances. However, we must understand that mysteries are divine revelations from scriptures that are wrapped up in biblical simplicities. That is why Jesus, while explaining the Parable Of The Sower to his disciples, said: …Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God (Luke 8:10-11; Mark 4:11; Ephesians 3:1-5; Colossians 1:25-27; 2 Corinthians 11:3).

In other words, God’s Words are mysteries that we operate to gain mastery over life situations. However, we must receive, believe and put them to work before the wonders therein can be delivered. That is why the Bible admonishes: But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only… (James 1:22).

It is also written: Meditate upon these things (God’s Word); give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all (1 Timothy 4:15).

“Profiting” in the above scripture means wonders. It is important to know that Christianity will remain an adventure in frustration without commitment to Word practice. This is because only the Word we put to work guarantees profitable living (Wonders), not the one we preach or reverence (James 1:25).

But, what are these wonders embedded in God’s Word?

First, we must understand that God’s Word is not just full of revelations, but also of spiritual pictures. This is because the Word of God is a spiritual mirror that shows us who we are, what we are worth and what we can do. As it is written:

For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed (James 1:23-25).

When we catch a glimpse of who God says we are from the mirror/glass of scripture and practice same, we are guaranteed profitable living in Christ Jesus. That is why the Bible says: Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place (2 Corinthians 2:14).

Based on the above scripture, one of the wonders embedded in the Word is triumphant living. That means when we access revelation (knowledge) from God’s Word, we are divinely illuminated and empowered to triumph over every challenging situation of life.

Let us examine one of the scriptural pictures that validate our triumphant destiny in Christ Jesus.

    • We are turned to spiritual illuminants: By revelation from God’s Word, we are turned into spiritual illuminants and thus empowered to dominate the powers of darkness. For instance, when we turn on the light in a dark room, darkness disappears automatically. Similarly, when we walk in the reality of God’s picture for us from scriptures, we triumph over the powers of darkness, cheaply (John 1:1-5, 9).

It is written: Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. …Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows? …By walking in that light, A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the Lord will hasten it in his time (Isaiah 60:1-3, 8, 22)

“Light” in the above scripture connotes the Word of God and “flight” means supernatural breakthrough. This means, walking in the light of scriptures empowers us for a flight and launches us into realms of supernatural breakthroughs. However, before we can begin to access light from God’s Words, we must first accept Jesus as our Lord and personal Saviour. This is what it means to be born again.

  • Continue good deeds, cleric charges society at 50

Continue good deeds, cleric charges society at 50

Provost of The African Church Saviour’s Cathedral Agege Lagos, The Venerable Abiodun Afolabi, has charged well-meaning Christians to continue their charitable deeds.

Their acts, he assured, will not go unrewarded by God in heaven and on earth.

He spoke last Sunday during the 50th anniversary of Christ Little Band (CLB).

Afolabi said: “Continue in love and selfless services because God will surely reward you. There is nothing we do that goes unrewarded.”

He praised members of the society for committing their resources and time to the service of God and humanity in half a century, urging them to keep it up.

The cleric urged them to groom younger elements to take over their good works in the church so “that the labour of 50 years will not go up in flames.”

He said members of the adult wing were in injury time and should double up their good conducts as they pass on the torch.

To the youth wing, he asked them to give their all to God in emulation of their forebears.

As they receive the baton, Afolabi urged them to run faster and smarter in working for the church’s expansion.

President of the society, Barrister Olushola Abanikanda, expressed gratitude to God and members for the anniversary.

He lamented the biting recession in the nation, calling on Christians to pray assiduously for reversal of the downturns.

  • ‘People don’t attend churches that cannot meet needs’

If someone has all the children and goes to hell, it is just a waste of efforts on the part of the pastor and waste of life with the person involved. So, we tell people here that they must serve God, shun ungodliness and love people.

After then, they must have the good things of life. They must have children and have money to take care of them. So, the two are combined. But preaching to people without meeting their needs is not what Jesus sent us to do.

He didn’t do that. He will first of us preach to them and meet their physical needs.

People see me when they have to see me; of course, there are procedures because of security and all that.

Is that deliberate or you have something against the bodies?

I do, but not always most of the time. I just like to face the thing God asked me to do. My joy is to see people that come here receive their breakthrough and all that.

Once in a while, I go to other places but not many times.

Does that mean those who already have children have no place in this church?

They do, because the kingdom of God is the basic here.

We also pray for singles to get married because they are many of them eligible but it is not happening for them. Whether we like it or not, there are reasons beyond them responsible for this.

We also have a prayer service for pregnant women. Women must carry pregnancies for 40 weeks and many of them lose their pregnancies. But we don’t have that here because we pray for them and encourage them to go to good hospitals.
