  • Subscribers fault minister’s claim on 50% data crash

TELECOMS subscribers have faulted the claim of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, on a 50 per cent drop in data cost.

Rather than a drop, the subscribers lamented that they have been consistently fleeced because they do not have the expertise to monitor their data consumption.

President, Association of Telephone, Cable Tv and Internet Subscribers (ATCIS Nigeria) Sina Bilesanmi said the feedback from his members does not align with the minister’s claim.

He said subscribers have always been excluded from the schme of things.

“For me, I think the minister is being economical with the truth because instead of a decrease, it’s an increase in cost. In the past, I was spending N5000 monthly, now it is N15,000. My over 100million members have not started feeling the impact of the slash.”

Another subscriber, Mr Bisi Onanuga, said the rate at which his data gets depleted had become worrisome.

“As a way of saving data, I now switch off my phone when going to bed,” he said.

Ola Yinka said he subscribed for 1.5G on Dec 8, by December 12, it had been depleted.

“I don’t download pictures or watch movies but the data just got burnt out. So, I don’t know what the minister is saying,” he said.

    By Kofoworola Belo-Osagie

Pupils attending the 1,016 public primary schools in Lagos State have begun getting MP3 devices to boost learning at home under the Eko EXCEL project.

With the pupils attending schools only on alternate days in keeping with COVID-19 safety protocols, the Eko EXCEL team pre-loaded school work in audio format on memory cards in the devices which they can listen to when at home.  The pupils are expected to complete exercises from the audio classes in the workbooks also provided with the devices.

Speaking at a demonstration session on the use of the devices for parents at St. Agnes Primary School, Maryland last Thursday, the Lagos State chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Adedoyin Adesina urged parents to pay attention to their wards’ education and help to safeguard the devices.

“Where you have your children you must have a stake.  The MP3 distributed is to complement school work.  Where a child uses it well it will be of great assistance.  That is where parents can ensure safe keeping,” he said.

Adesina praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for increasing budgetary provision for education like non before him.

“Since we have been having budgetary allocations to education since I started teaching in Lagos, I noticed that Sanwo-Olu has surpassed all,” he said.

The Education Secretary, Kosofe Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Mr. Tunde Soleye also thanked the governor for prioritising the use of technology in educational service delivery.

“He is not only talking about education, but education and technology.  He understands that in this 21st century our children must compete and if the primary level is good, all other levels would be good,” he said.

Director of Schools, Eko EXCEL, Mrs. Sonia Ivie demonstrated the use of the devices to parents.  She said they were colour-coded according to the classes – red for pre-school, yellow for lower primary and green, upper primary.  She said the devices only needed to be charged for two hours and highlighted the function of the four buttons on the device which basically serve to scroll from one lesson to the other.

    Singer, NotFemii drops single ‘Nobody’

    Our Reporter

Versatile and prolific US-based Nigerian singer, Olusegun Femi Adeyemo, better known as NotFemii dropped a new single titled “Nobody” on Friday, December 11, 2020 off his coming EP titled “Nothing But Love” set to be released next Friday, December 18, 2020.

The single “Nobody” was produced by Auxxi and mixed and mastered by Reverb. It is one of the songs that made up the five-track EP dropping next Friday.

With “Nothing” NotFemii tested the waters and it appears it is only warmth and positive reviews that await him.

There hasn’t been much cheery news since the pandemic held the world spreadeagled but NotFemii’s EP “Nothing But Love” may just be what the doctor ordered to lighten up moods as it is loaded with much love.

“This EP is basically reflecting my years and my past experiences with women and how I was feeling at that time. The title “Nothing But Love” is coined out of my stage name “NotFemii”. “Not” in my name means “Nothing” and “Femi” means love, so the full meaning of “NotFemii” is “Nothing But Love”. All the songs on the Project are love songs so it only made more sense to give it that name,” says the singer NotFemii is a Afrobeat and Contemporary R&B singer crafted with musical sagacity and cutting edge of the likes of Kizz Daniel, Joeboy and Adekunle Gold.

NotFemii is presently an undergraduate of Morgan State University, Maryland, USA. He is uncannily blessed with the ability to play any song on almost any musical instruments as long as he hears it.

According to him, he started music when he was just 8 in primary school. Even at that time he could play various musical instruments. But professionally, music started for him in 2017.

His first single titled “Uncomfortable” was produced by him. The beat for the song, as he said, was produced in his room and sent to friends for mixing and mastering. And when the song dropped family and friends knew a star was born.

The first single was originally released in 2018 but refixed and eventually released on March 20, 2019.

He followed up the good work with another single “Wanting More” on December 25, 2019 and his third single, “Angie” featuring Dremo dropped April 17, 2020. It was mixed and mastered by Reverb.

His soon-to-be released EP “Nothing But Love” will be his first body of work.
