Tyson fights to draw with Jones Jr. in exhibition

    Agency Reporter

Mike Tyson showed age has not robbed him of his power as the former heavyweight champion, in his long-awaited return to the ring, dominated Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition fight on Saturday in Los Angeles that was surprisingly ruled a draw.

While there were no ringside judges to score the eight-round contest between two of boxing’s all-time greats, both over 50, and no official winner, the World Boxing Council formed a set of judges that remotely scored the bout.

“I’m used to doing it for three minutes,” 54-year-old Tyson said of the shorter rounds. “Sometimes, that two minutes felt like three minutes. I’m happy I got this under my belt to keep doing this and go further.”

Tyson, 15 years removed from his ignominious defeat to Irishman Kevin McBride in the last professional fight of his career, came out firing and was in control of the bout the entire way.

Jones Jr, 51, was the more visibly fatigued of the two fighters, but managed to pick up the pace in the later rounds enough to earn the win on one scorecard and a draw on the other while Tyson took the third scorecard.

When the final bell rang, the two fighters shared a hug.

“The body shots definitely took a toll,” said Jones Jr. a former world champion in four different weight classes whose last professional fight was in 2018.

“The body shots are what make you exhausted.”

The two boxers were introduced by legendary ring announcer Michael Buffer, who delivered his famous “Let’s Get Ready To Rumble” inside the Staples Centre which was devoid of fans given the COVID-19 pandemic.

After the fight Tyson, who was once the most feared fighter on the planet, shot down any idea of making a return to professional boxing.

“This is bigger than fighting and winning the championship,” Tyson said of exhibitions where he donates earnings to charity. “We’re humanitarians and we’re helping people.”

    By Moses Emorinken, Abuja

The Governing Council of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) is taking steps to ensure that the difficulties young pharmacists face in securing a place for internship after graduation is addressed and solved.

The council Chairman, Prof. Ahmed Tijjani Mora, addressing reporters on Tuesday in Abuja, said the average number of fresh pharmacy graduates annually is between 1,500 to 1,800, while the accredited internship training centres are only 380, with most of the centres at general hospitals, teaching hospitals and manufacturing facilities and community pharmacies.

He said the council was concerned about the frustrations and restlessness of young pharmacists over the issue and had set up an ad hoc committee and made other plans to ensure that fresh pharmacy graduates were attached to accredited internship training centres.

Mora said the council would ensure a harmonised system of internship placement so that by the time the registrar was administering the oath of pharmacy on fresh graduates, they would have known where they were going to do their internship.

PCN Registrar Elijah Mohammed said pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are already online and that patent medicine vendors should be online for their annual licences by 2021.

How Dr. Calvin Gar Wing Jung became a cosmetic surgeon to the stars

    Our Reporter

Dr. Calvin Gar Wing Jung is creating the shape of things to come, both for his patients and for the entire body contouring industry.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Dr. Jung completed his Bachelor of Science degree in 2003 at the University of British Columbia.

From there, he studied at NYU School of Dentistry, where he graduated in 2008, followed by the NYU School of Medicine, where he graduated in 2012.

Now, as a cosmetic surgeon with a keen focus on liposculpture, Brazilian Butt Lift, abdominal etching, and specialization in body contouring, Dr. Jung is sharing his story. “I think it chose me,” he says of his decision to get into this industry.

During his internship in general surgery, he had the chance to rotate and operate with distinguished facial, aesthetic, and plastic surgeons and developed a passion for cosmetic procedures. He continues, “After fellowship, I learned so many different surgeries. Moving to Houston and being in a saturated market for cosmetic procedures, I knew that I needed to focus my energy and be good at ‘something’ so that I could shine above the rest.”

Dr. Jung received a call from a head hunter that was looking for a doctor to help with liposuction in Houston and his career skyrocketed! He was invited to join the Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship from 2015 to 2016, the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery ABCS in 2017, and was awarded a Total Definer Certificate for 4D Body Contouring in 2018. After training with a world-renowned plastic surgeon, Dr. Alfredo Hoyos, in Colombia, Dr. Jung was determined to bring these methods to the United States. “As I did more research, I knew that the body contouring and liposuction methods in the States were not on par with what was being done in Colombia,” he explains. “So, I took all the principles I learned, from pre-op to surgery to post-op, and incorporated them into my practice.”
