    Putin warns Russia’s coronavirus situation getting worse

    Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on Monday that the coronavirus epidemic in the country was “not getting better,” according to comments carried by state media.

    Putin demanded that officials provide him with daily reports and forecasts about the situation.

    He said Russia’s military could become involved in further response measures, such as assistance by military medical staff.

    The Russian leader, who has been working remotely, expressed support for the city of Moscow’s lockdown quarantine measures.

    Most of Russia’s regions have followed Moscow’s lead and imposed similar measures, advising residents to stay home unless absolutely necessary.

    COVID-19: Lagos council boss distributes 3000 food items

    Surulere Local Government, Lagos State, has donated food items to 53 Community Development Associations (CDAs) in the area to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 lockdown.

    Chairman of the LG Hon Tajudeen Ajide, said the council’s palliative was for the people of Surulere to support the aged and vulnerable in the community.

    Thousands of neatly wrapped food items; rice, garri, noodles, salt and sugar were presented to representatives of the 53 CDAs to provide assistance to residents during the stay-at-home directive by the government.

    Supervisor on Agric and Sport, Tajudeen Disu, however, cautioned the CDAs representatives to ensure that the items get to the intended people.

    “While this exercise is to ameliorate the sufferings of our people in the local government and we have heard so many complaints of people who have not received any package of food stuffs, we must say that it is important that the items get to the right people,” he said.

    3000 food items, consisting of 5kg of rice, 5kg garri, noodles, sugar, salt among others were distributed among the 53 CDAs.

    He added: “This package is target at those who cannot afford food items during this period.

    “It is not for the whole community, but for specific people in the community who depend on relatives and government for support.”

    The chairman directed residents to comply with all directives by both the Federal Government and Lagos State Government to curb the spread of COVID-19.

    “The only way to curb this pandemic is to stay at home and follow governments’ instructions,” he said.

    The chairman had earlier distributed hand sanitisers, hand washing buckets and soaps to residents and the primary health care centres in the council with continuous advocacy on healthy living.

    The General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Apostle Dr. Chibuzor Chinyere, has donated a multi-million life support ambulance to assist the Rivers State Government in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

    Presenting the ambulance in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Chinyere said he will never relent in his effort to support the government in whatever measures to fight the virus.

    The General Overseer, who runs a free Specialist Hospital in Rivers State, said the ambulance was from tithes and offerings donated by members.

    Receiving the donation on behalf of the Rivers State Government, tCommissioner of Health, Prof. Princewill Chike, appreciated the church and urged other agencies and corporate organisations to emulate the footsteps of OPM.

    The measures prolong the state of emergency for the second time in Spain, which has the world’s second-highest coronavirus death toll.

    Several economic and labour regulations have been introduced to help bring the crisis under control.

    The outbreak has led to a near-collapse of Spain’s health system as the country reported more than 15,000 deaths by yesterday although the daily rate of infection is beginning to slow down.

    Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez warned that he might need to ask for a third extension to prolong measures until next month.

    British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was on Thursday evening moved out of intensive care, but remained in hospital.

    A No. 10 spokesperson said the prime minister will receive close monitoring during the early phase of his recovery.

    “He is in extremely good spirits,” the spokesperson said.

    He was taken to hospital on Sunday – 10 days after testing positive – and was moved to intensive care on Monday.

    Mr Johnson received “standard oxygen treatment” in intensive care and was not put on a ventilator, Downing Street said earlier.

    Ogunbiyi said the action was to complement governments effort towards curtailing the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 especially at the grassroots.

    Aside from the free hand sanitizers, Ogunbiyi also shared food items freely to the old, the young and other residents in Lagos island.

    He also sensitized the residents on the dangers of the pandemic and the need to pay attention to warnings from government and health officials on the coronavirus disease.

    He equally enjoined the residents not to panic as government is doing its best to safeguard the citizens.

    NIGERIAN-LEBANESE businessmen billionaires and philanthropists Ronald and Gilbert Chagoury, boosted the fight and containment of the spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic with N1 billion donation to Lagos State government.

    The state is the epicenter of the Coronavirus disease in Nigeria recording 145 cases. The brothers donation to the Lagos is the so far the single largest donation to the state government to help it tackle the disease.

    They also donated 300 plates of meals per day to the government to feed patients suffering from the disease and health workers taking care of the patients.

    A MAGISTRATES’ Court sitting in Osogbo on Thursday convicted four persons for violating stay-at-home directive of the state government.

    The convicts are; Moshood Akinwale, 28, Oladimeji Sadique, 24, Dauda Abdullahi, 22, and Adewale Taofeeq, 28.

    The Police Prosecutor, Mr. Kayode Adeoye, alleged that the defendants committed the crime on April 9, 2020, at about 12:10 pm, at Dugbe area, Opposite Freedom Park, Osogbo.

    According to the charge sheet, the crime contravened the provisions of sections 203 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun state, 2002.

    The Magistrate, Mr. Olusegun Ayilara, who had earlier convicted the defendants, thereby cautioned and discharged them.
