Kumuyi @80: God’s general who led me to Calvary

If I have a story to tell today about Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, the founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, it would be that on my way to Calvary, I met a man who showed me the way to live eternal when it appeared I had somewhat missed my way at the labyrinth of life.

Of course, I had Christian parents who brought us (their children) up in the way of the Lord. Yet, perhaps by what some would call providence and happenstance, I still didn’t get born again through them. If I hadn’t met this man, I would have been lost in sin and my life made miserable since the wages of sin is death.
On that fateful day, dated November 24, 1990, with all the reluctance in me, I was practically foot-dragged to the Government College, Agege, the venue of a regular crusade, otherwise called Great Miracle Crusade.

Now I know God was preparing Pastor Kumuyi to lead to me Him. It was just a simple message of salvation that came from that altar. Then I heard God calling my name in total surrender to Him. I heeded that call without any struggle whatsoever. Just I was without one plea!

Since I met Christ in that crusade, I have laid my hands on the plough and never looking back. Pastor Kumuyi, a man I will forever celebrate, is that oracle of God sent to me to minister salvation and grace to me. I don’t know where I would have been now if I hadn’t been graciously favoured by God to meet him early in life. O ye wretched man that I was!

Aside being my spiritual father to my family, daddy is one person that has continued to act in locoparentis to me, in all facets of life. He is that father, mentor, leader and pastor I want to continue to follow his steps, through Christ, till the end of the world, God helping me.

In summary of that heavenly encounter and experience, here is an evergreen song that readily comes to mind:
At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day.

Today in history, this same man who has touched so many lives, including mine, was born. God chose to gift him to humanity on June 6, 1941. It was intentional. It was a Friday.

An attempt to rhapsodize the attributes of Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi will be tantamount to filling a tank from waterdrops; a daunting task you would say, especially for a man who is meek in all his ways and humble to a fault.

As an ardent follower of Christ who has been lost to discipleship, daddy exemplifies the 12 Fruits of the Holy Spirit and the nine Gifts of the Holy Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23 and 1Corinthians 12:1-11.

Not many know that, at a whopping 80, baba is still very agile, dedicated and sold out to the pulpit. Not many 80-year olds have such strength: a clear indication that God keeps renewing his strength.

If you ask me, I want to grow old into my eighties and have good memories of myself and of me from people. The most endearing of such stories to tell would be the number of souls I have won for the Lord, just like our daddy, an evangelist so committed to soul-winning.

Again here is the goodwill message straight from Golgotha— that here is a man whose ideals and goals centre on the salvation of souls, holy living, rapture and heaven as the ultimate goal on the last day. Not many clergymen in the world today focus on that. I do not intend to make any comparison here though.

Where will you spend eternity? That’s the question that intermittently pops out of the mouth of the man of God. I mean the man of God who has totally surrendered to the will of the God of man.

Glory to the faithful Father of grace and truth, from whom all blessings flow, who has always confirmed the ministrations of Pastor Kumuyi with signs following. Yes, daddy has taught me that miracles signs and wonders are a testament to the fact that when there is people that can pray, there is definitely a God that can answer. To this end, countless testimonies abound through baba’s ministrations.

Under baba’s tutelage, I have learnt that God is still in the business of saving, healing and delivering His people, if only we make ourselves available for Him.

Again, hear the Holy Book here in Isaiah 59:1-2, “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He will not hear.” Does that make any sense to you? Well, to me, it sure does. Sin is that barrier between us and God.

Just like daddy himself who got born again on April 5, 1964, and largely inspired by the books of John Wesley, Charles Finney, Charles Spurgeon and others, I make bold to say that his messages and books have largely influenced my life in ways too numerous to mention.

A pastor, evangelist and author of tens of books and a former lecturer of Mathematics at the University of Lagos, the vision of the church’s camp ground situated at Kilometre 42 on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, came to many by surprise, but not to me. I have always known Pastor Kumuyi is a big dreamer who then makes himself readily available to God for use. That was same way the international headquarters in Gbagada, Lagos, and the International Bible Training Centre (IBTC) at Ayobo, Lagos, came into existence.

If there is something I have learnt more from daddy, it is humility, simplicity and godliness. He is quoted to have said that he happily looks forward to a season when no black strands would remain on his head while minding the Father’s business. Oh! What joy that fills his heart when perishing souls are brought back to the fold of the Father of light full of mercy!

For a man who is widely traveled for the sole aim of propagating the gospel of salvation with a view to depopulating hell and expanding the kingdom of God, hitting 80 is nothing but a pointer to God’s amazing grace and unflinching faithfulness to a man I see as His mouthpiece on earth. All glory to the God of wonders beyond the galaxy!

Here is a man who led me to the old rugged cross. Suffice to say that the crucial role baba played in the salvation of my soul and still in my daily Christian walk cannot be quantified by mere words. I daresay that his mission on earth is fulfilled through me, a one-time wretched sinner, who he led to Christ.

I can say for a fact that he is focused, visionary, disciplined and remains unperturbed, despite a litany of criticisms often heaped on him for the sake of his faith and the path His God is leading him through, in his Christian walk with Him.

With eternity and the Great White Throne Judgement in view, no man of his calibre would be moved by worldly things which are but ephemeral. Holiness remains his watchword, notwithstanding the fact that many often dare such gut about him. You won’t blame him. As enshrined in the Holy Book, gospel leaders must be largely seen drawing souls to God, and that is the bedrock of our faith. Matthew 6:33 says “seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you.”

He continues to draw inference from 1 Peter 1:15-16— “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation. Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”; and Hebrews 12:14 — “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.”

Hailing from a remote village in Erin-Ijesha, Osun State lends credence to the fact that Daddy Kumuyi had a humble beginning but was determined to succeed and influence all others around him, with a common goal of making heaven, through holy living. With all the passion and earnest expectation in his veins, he has been, on a couple of occasions, spotted weeping on the podium, while calling on sinners to give their lives to Christ.

Since “it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35)”, baba has, through the ministry, on several occasions, donated to philanthropy and humanitarian services; little wonder why God continues to supply his needs and that of the church.

Please meet God’s general who led me to Christ and continues to monitor my walk with God to be sure I don’t err from the faith. Sir, your teachings and spiritual discoveries have been a huge blessing to my life so much that I can’t but be a blessing to my own generation too.

Daddy, as you attain this octogenarian milestone, may the floodgates of heaven remain open for you and may your fruits abide, in Jesus matchless name. From the depth of me, permit me to wish you a very glorious and memorable birthday filled with bliss and blessings on every side.

‘FG has always been against Twitter’

    Our Reporter

Popular social media personality, Fanu Omolade has weighed in on the ongoing Twitter ban by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Recall that the FG had placed an indefinite ban on the microblogging platform after it deleted President Buhari’s tweet because it violated its community rules.

Omolade who is a well-known social media personality and trendsetter has however aired her opinion on the ongoing issue stating that the FG has been against Twitter since the EndSars protest which happens in 2020.

She said: “It’s obvious the Nigerian Government has a beef against Twitter ever since the Endsars protest. Twitter really helped amplify the movement and that was the best thing that’s ever happened to the Nigerian youths”.

Continuing, she said “Twitter CEO got involved personally and tweeted the hashtag hence giving it more visibility to the whole world to know what is going on in Nigeria, he also created an emoji of a fist draped in Nigerian flag to support the movement, this support helped the Feminist Coalition to raise donations to fund the movement which was later deactivated by the Nigerian banks but the Bitcoin donation still helped go a long way.

“During that time, a former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba was also clearly against Jack supporting the Youth and he took it upon himself to sue him which he also failed at, as he usually fails all we know is this support the government wasn’t happy about it and they’ve been looking for ways to shut down the usage of Twitter in Nigeria.

“I remember waking up and trying to load my Twitter page, I simply assumed it was network until I got to my Whatapp and saw it has been banned by the Nigerian government, this ban has caused a lot of harm! I know many youths that Twitter is their only means of earning an income so they won’t be on the street or become criminals, but the government has yet taken that away from them.

Fanu who is the founder of 247new.ng says due to the ban, she is now focused on her website.

“Personally I am affected by this ban, I have lost one of my prominent clients and it’s sad that this is our new reality, I’ll simply focus on my website. It’s a news website and I’ll make sure to post nothing but the truth no matter who is affected because that is where we are now”.

Speaking on her new website, she said “I created it sometimes last year during lockdown just as a way to get busy, but now it’s about to get real as I am already working with other youths to make sure we maximize this platform.

“All I can say about my country is I know one day, we’ll all smile and be glad we stood up for our right”.

Market Focus 2.0: Stakeholders canvass multidimensional approach to housing deficit

    By Olaitan Ganiu

Real Estate and home finance industry leaders unilaterally agreed that a multidimensional approach involving public-private partnerships on different fronts is required to bridge the budget deficit at the Alpha Mead 2.0 Market Focus Series recently.

At the webinar themed “Funding Your Home with Government Mortgage Support”, stakeholders agreed that the COVID-19 induced economic realities necessitate that innovative approaches to funding and accessibility are required to provide truly affordable homes.

Buttressing the need for affordable homes to cater to the national housing needs, the Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa stated: “The United Nations estimates that global population will reach almost 8.6billion by 2030, and of an estimated 3billion will require new housing and basic infrastructure by then. However, with the overwhelming support by the private sector in delivering affordable houses globally, the public sector, therefore, have a critical role to play in providing funding.”

He detailed the remarkable contributions the apex mortgage bank has made in providing accessible funds for the construction of affordable homes saying: “ Within 6 months of this administration’s inauguration, we identified this issue and held a corporate retreat with all departments to review the process. The activity led to a reduction in the average number of days to access the loan from 180 down to 88. How we did this is by ensuring final loan approval; coincides with our board meeting which holds quarterly.

Another improvement in the processes of the FMBN can be seen in the areas of disbursement and refund. The bank disbursed ₦130 billion within the last 25 years from 2017, however, since we took over in 2017, a total disbursement of the same ₦130 billion has been made. With regard to refund, a total of ₦11 billion was refunded in 25 years prior to our inauguration, but since 2017 till date, a total of ₦30 billion have been made so far.”

Speaking on the new dimensions and factors that come to play in the housing dilemma, The Group Managing Director of Alpha Mead, Engr. Femi Akintunndemaintained: “Shelter has assumed new heights of importance with Covid-19 drastically changing the narrative of how we live, work and play. Now that we currently live in an era of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA), it is necessary that we keep exploring all possibilities to adequately cater to the housing needs of the nation.

Nigeria is admittedly short of the required numbers to make the housing-for-all which is a component of the SDG goal 11, nevertheless, stakeholders from both the private and public sector are contributing their quota to meet the achievement of this goal. It is for this reason that organisations like Alpha Mead are constantly on the lookout for credible partners in different areas to fast-track the drive.”

The webinar which is designed for existing and prospective homeowners, companies, cooperatives and a group of individuals had a handful of investors in attendance who were interested in knowing where to invest their funds. The Managing Director of Alpha Mead Development Company (AMDC), DamolaAkindolireresponded saying: “Urban centres will always continue to take priority over sub-urban centres. Real estate is most profitable for those who take advantage of virgin opportunities; watch the level of infrastructural development the government is making in those places and then you will be able to take advantage of the capital appreciation. The two main cities with high real estate potential in Nigeria at the moment are Lagos and Abuja. Despite this information, one must be aware of the particular locations to invest – in Lagos, the most prime investment locations are between Ajah and Epe, and Mowe-Ofada; in Abuja, areas like Lugbe, Gwarimpa and their suburbs are showing high promise.”

AMDC remains the only development company certified to international standards (ISO 900:2015) and in partnership with key players across the homeownership value chain including several Primary Mortgage Institutions (PMIs) and the FMBN. Commenting on the new innovation that PMIs like his are deploying to provide more accessible houses and contribute to economic recovery, the Executive Director of AG Mortgage Bank Plc, Simon Ogwu narrated: “Reaching out to the unbanked to put them under cooperative and union umbrellas, and structure housing loans for them in partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. Once that is done, the next stage is selecting a developer and we a strategic partnership with Alpha Mead as the titles they have provided overtime are in perfectable stage and their delivered products have also been in good condition.”

AMDC are the developers of Lekki Pearl Estate, the only residential estate in Nigeria certified to the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation’s EDGE-Advanced standards. Besides the Lekki Pearl Estate, the company also has an affordable monthly homeownership product called Green Park Estate. At Green Park Estate customers can own a home with as little monthly contribution as N50,000. They are also guaranteed access to the National Housing Fund (a product of FMBN) mortgage of up to N15million payable over 25 years at an unbeatable 6% interest rate. The company also has products for customers who may be interested in monthly home rental, real estate crowdfund and land investment.

Zugacoin creates Africa’s first Blockchain main Net

    Our Reporter

Zugacoin has recently made another history by creating the first Blockchain Main Net in Africa.

The crypto has completed Cryptocurrency private mining farm and is now independent like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

This is coming days after celebrating its 6 month anniversary.

All these feats are to be officially launched on the 7-month anniversary of ZUGACOIN which is on July 7, 2021, in the Republic of Rwanda.

Urging the youths to take advantage of Zugacoin’s progress to better their lives, the philanthropic cleric who returned from Dubai with the sole aim of liberating Nigerians out of poverty gave several instances of how Nigerians should be independent at least in the Digital Economy.

Speaking on this feat, Sam Zuga wrote, “Now that technology has come to help us through Digital Economy, Chinese came early enough and planted Binance and Luno exchange platforms. British brought Remittano, Americans brought Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies to drain Nigeria’s Digital Economy that is about to start. Nigeria is ranked at the top in Cryptocurrency globally by trading in other people’s Cryptocurrencies without having anyone but is number 27 in Fiat currency that they have. They are always devaluing the Naira that we have. Binance exchange used to make 1 Billion Naira every day in Nigeria through transaction fee. New Cryptocurrencies are entering Nigeria in their numbers on daily basis, many of them with good offers to entice Nigerians, after few months of gathering money, they either take away the liquidity or close the site and you can’t trace it again.”

Continuing, he said: “Dubai is draining our money on daily basis through tourism and real estate.

“We are still using our hard-earned money to buy weapons from these white people to kill ourselves for them.

The money we are using to buy AK 47 and bullets are enough to build houses and have a good farm and make more money. I can go on and on and on.

“After doing all these to us, coupled with the ones we are doing to ourselves, a white man came out recently to say that Nigeria is at the verge of no return. This is ridiculous.

“It is in view of the above that I am doing my best that we should detach ourselves from these people and be independent at least in Digital Economy. We can’t continue like this. Even though many people are not understanding me now, but the next generation will thank God that I was here before them. Is better to be in your own two rooms apartment than paying rent in another person’s duplex.”

“I’m using my sweat to do all these because my people refused to believe that we can do it. But I am believing God that with time, everyone in Africa will come to realize that we are slaves even in our own countries in Africa and we need to start walking out of it now before it will be too late.

“Our Samzuga P2P exchange will be down any moment to upgrade it to spot exchange that would enable ZUGACOIN to be swapped to any other Cryptocurrency in the world. At this time you will be selling ZUGACOIN through Samzuga wallet only. This may take a week or two weeks. Depends on how God gives us the grace.”

    Philanthropist donates N20m bus terminus

    By Emma Elekwa, Onitsha

It was celebration galore weekend at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State  following the delivery of a N20million ultramodern bus terminus by a philanthropist, Chief Johnbosco Onunkwo.

Immediate past President, Students Union Government (SUG), Joseph Okafor said the decision to embark on the project followed untold hardships students experienced while boarding busses at the loading bay.

Okafor, who got support for the project, said renovation of the facility was a campaign promise for various candidates during elections for years.

“After evaluation of various projects needed by the students, we had to consider our bus stand which was like seven rivers of Jordan. Nobody enters the stand during rainy season because you can easily be splashed with water.

“The project could have been completed before now if not for COVID-19. But since the project involved students who he is passionate about, he decided to use his meagre resources to put smiles on their faces. We named the park after him,” he said.

Onunkwo, a governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in last November election, said the N20million facility took lots of engineering acumen and several trailer loads of sands before it got a face lift.

“A lot of hydra-headed issues, including coronavirus posed serious challenge to us. But we thank God that a project we started, we also completed. As a Rotarian, if a project is not painful and beneficial to all, I won’t embark on it,” he said.

He urged the students to shun evil, but to always anchor their faith in God and themselves to excel, insisting that education and hardwork pay.

Inaugurating the project, a Catholic cleric, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma thanked the benefactor for the gesture.

Receiving the key to the facility, Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Charles Esimone described the project as evidence of promise fulfilled, and promotion of good things to come for the students and the institution.

On his part, Dean, Students Affairs, Prof. Nonso Achebe praised the philanthropist for his benevolence, praying God to reward him bountifully.

The Parents’ Forum of the Caleb University Imota, has handed over the medical centre it built and furnished to the management of the institution.  The group also donated an ambulance to tackle medical emergencies.
