  •  God will answer your prayers

     God will answer your prayers

    • By Henry O. Adelegan

As we step into a new month in this sacred season of Lent today, we are reminded of God’s unfailing promise: He hears and answers prayers. In a world where many question whether their cries reach heaven, where prayers seem unanswered, and where fasting and supplication sometimes feel futile, Scripture reassures us that God remains faithful. The Apostle John affirms in 1 John 5:14 that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. The Psalmist echoes this truth, declaring that the God who created ears surely hears, and the One who formed eyes surely sees (Psalm 94:9). God Himself declares through the prophet Jeremiah, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show you great and mighty things, which you know not” (Jeremiah 33:2-3).

Yet, for prayers to be answered, they must align with God’s will. When we stray from His commandments and live outside His purpose, our prayers become mere noise, our fasting turns into a religious ritual devoid of power, and our time in prayer feels empty. The enemy, symbolized as the “Prince of Persia” in Daniel 10:12-13, seeks to delay and hinder answers to prayers. Today, this adversary takes many forms—sin, pride, selfishness, and worldliness—all of which separate us from God and block His response. The Apostle Paul warned of such times, describing a world filled with selfishness, disobedience, and a superficial faith that lacks true devotion (2 Timothy 3:2-5).

God is holy, and He cannot tolerate iniquity (Habakkuk 1:13). He warns in Isaiah 1:15 that when hands are stained with sin, prayers will go unheard. Again, in Isaiah 59:1-2, He reminds us that it is not His power that is lacking but that sin creates a barrier between Him and His people. The key to answered prayers is a pure heart, aligned with His will. When we walk in obedience and surrender to Christ, God not only answers our prayers but blesses us beyond what we could ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20, 2 Chronicles 1:11-12).

During this Lenten season, let this be a time of true surrender. Give your life to Jesus, confess Him as Lord, seek His forgiveness, and turn away from sin. Avoid influences that lead you astray and commit yourself to a Bible-believing church. Cultivate a heart of gratitude, replacing complaints with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6, Colossians 4:2). Pray with faith, without doubting (Hebrews 11:1, Matthew 21:22), and with the right motives (James 4:3). As you do this, believe that nothing—no power of darkness, no human scheme—can stand in the way of your testimony. As the Lord lives, your mountains shall be brought low, valleys of death shall be lifted up and your crooked paths of challenges shall be made straight and traversable in the name of Jesus.

Prayer: This month of April 2025, in this sacred season, may you experience God’s presence, His great courage, and the joy of answered prayers, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  • ‘How persecution forced Orimolade out of Anglican Church’

‘How persecution forced Orimolade out of Anglican Church’

As the Cherubim and Seraphim Church marks its centenary, the story of its foundation, struggles, and evolution continues to be a subject of deep reflection. Special Apostle, Pastor Dr. Steve Olusegun Ogidan, in a keynote address at the 10th Memorial Lecture of Prophet Gabriel Olubunmi Fakeye, sheds light on the roots of the church, its founder, Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase, and the challenges he faced in his pursuit of a spiritually authentic Christian movement.

The lecture, themed: ‘Centenary of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church: Establishing a Legacy of Continuity from Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase to Prophet Gabriel Olubunmi Fakeye and Beyond,’ brought together clerics, scholars, and leaders of the Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) from across the continent.

Moses Orimolade’s break from the Anglican Church

Dr. Ogidan traced the origins of Moses Orimolade’s departure from the Anglican Communion, attributing it to two key reasons: his refusal to commercialize his spiritual gift of healing and his vociferous campaign against cultism within the church.

He explained that while the Anglican Church initially recognized Orimolade as an itinerant evangelist, his growing influence and spiritual reputation soon became a source of discomfort to the church’s leadership.

Orimolade, known for his deep spiritual insight, arrived in Lagos on July 12, 1924, lodging at the Holy Trinity (Anglican) Church with a fellow native from Ikare-Akoko. His prayer life and powerful preaching quickly gained attention, earning him the title ‘Baba Aladura’ (Father that prays). His popularity, however, unsettled the Anglican establishment, leading to his ejection from the church premises on September 11, 1924.

According to Ogidan, Orimolade’s refusal to monetize his healing ministry was one of the major reasons for his expulsion. The Anglican leadership saw an opportunity to generate revenue from his spiritual gifts, but Orimolade firmly upheld the biblical principle of freely giving what he had received from God. His well-known declaration, “Ofe la fi fun wa, ofe la si gbodo fi fun awon eniyan” (We received freely, and freely we must give), became a cornerstone of his ministry.

Additionally, his outspoken stance against cultism within the church, particularly his opposition to clergy involvement in secret fraternities, further strained his relationship with the Anglican authorities. Ogidan highlighted that Archdeacon T. A. J. Ogunbiyi, the founder of the Reformed Ogboni Fraternity (ROF) in 1914, was one of the influential church leaders who felt threatened by Orimolade’s campaign.

Doctrinal conflicts and the Anglican response

While Ogidan’s historical account suggests that Orimolade’s persecution stemmed from his opposition to commercialization and cultism, a theologian, Pastor Evans Adetokunbo Emmanuel of Grace Missions International offered a contrasting perspective. He argued that doctrinal differences, rather than external influences, were the primary cause of the schism between Orimolade’s movement and the Anglican Church.

Pastor Emmanuel noted that the Anglican establishment viewed the Aladura Movement as excessive in its emphasis on divine healing and prayer. He highlighted the Faith Tabernacle Movement, which shared similar beliefs with Aladura but had Western influences, as another factor that shaped Anglican skepticism towards indigenous healing ministries.

He dismissed claims that the Reformed Ogboni Fraternity (ROF) played a direct role in Orimolade’s expulsion, stating that by 1914, the fraternity was already under scrutiny and was never fully integrated into Anglican doctrine. Instead, he emphasized that infant baptismal practices and divine healing without medical intervention were among the core issues that led to the separation.

The fundamental is that in most of the history books you are going to read, you are not going to find the issue of the Ogboni Fraternity, and there that’s the truth. In many of the people’s theses and studies, concerning the Aladura and the Anglican relationship and how they broke up, you would hardly find all those things like it was because of money or Ogboni, you won’t find it. l have not read it once so that’s why I said it depends on who is speaking, and who is telling the story.

Ogboni people in the past were idol worshippers and were not accepted by the growing elites of Christians close to hundreds of years ago but it is true that Ogunbiyi later brought Reformed Ogboni Fraternity to make it acceptable within the Anglican Church.

Faith, commercialization, and the modern church

Rev. Olufemi Emmanuel, Provost of the West African Theological Seminary, provided a theological reflection on Orimolade’s legacy, pointing out that many of the challenges he faced persist today. He identified three key issues that Orimolade fought against: The commercialization of spiritual gifts and the temptation to monetize divine power remains a challenge in many contemporary churches. Occult influence in Christian leadership: Just as Orimolade resisted the presence of secret societies in the church, modern Christianity continues to battle syncretism and leadership compromises.

Doctrinal integrity: The emphasis on faith healing and the power of prayer over conventional medicine was a defining feature of Orimolade’s ministry. Today, similar debates persist over the role of faith versus science in healing.

Rev. Emmanuel emphasized the need for revival, stating that Orimolade’s commitment to prayer, integrity, and non-commercialized ministry is a legacy that must be restored. He challenged the church leaders to resist the modern-day commodification of the gospel and to uphold the spiritual discipline and sacrifice that characterized Orimolade’s ministry.

He said, “I am looking beyond denomination here. If the stance of Orimolade is what C&S represents, I would rather go for that”.

He noted that unfortunately, the present-day C&S cannot make an absolute claim of following their founder’s footsteps; but even the Anglican is not better. The love of money, power and dirty politics is in that denomination.

As the church steps into its second century, the challenge remains: Can modern leaders uphold the purity and fire of Orimolade’s vision? If history is any guide, the answer will depend on their willingness to prioritize prayer, resist compromise, and preserve the foundational values that gave birth to one of Africa’s most influential Christian movements.

MTU graduate Chukwuma Hillary breaks new ground in AI-Driven worm research

    By Ayoyinka Jegede

A graduate of Mountain Top University (MTU), Nigerian scientist, Chukwuma Hilary  (Junior), has put the country on the global research map with his groundbreaking study on worm mating behaviour, using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to revolutionise biological research.

Hilary’s work, recently published in an internationally recognised scientific journal, showcases how AI can be leveraged to advance the study of animal behaviour, unlocking insights that could have a far-reaching impact across multiple scientific fields.

His team went a step further by enhancing DeepSORT, a widely recognised state-of-the-art object-tracking algorithm. Outperforming such advanced models is a daunting challenge in AI research, yet Hilary’s modifications led to an astounding 77% improvement in tracking accuracy. This level of enhancement is almost unheard of, marking a major leap forward in automated animal behaviour analysis and cementing his work as a significant contribution to the field.

Surprisingly, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) engineer, Chuwkuma Hillary, a Nigerian, who had his First degree in Computer Science from the Prestigious Mountain Top University, Prayer City Ogun State, Nigeria, has developed a state-of-the-art AI-powered system to automate tracking of Microscopic creatures, saving researchers valuable time and significantly improving accuracy.

This will also provide efficiency in Biological Research: The automated analysis tool developed in this research aims to replace the time-consuming manual worm analysis methods, significantly increasing the scope and efficiency of studies in various biological disciplines that use C. elegans as a model organism, including neurobiology, developmental biology, and genetics.

Hilary further revealed that the broader impact of this research lies in its potential to enhance our understanding of biological processes and environmental interactions through more efficient and accurate analysis of C. elegans behaviour.

He added that in environmental monitoring, the study of C. elegans mating behaviour aids scientists in understanding the impact of environmental toxins on soil conditions.

Hilary said the automated analysis tool developed in this research can aid in a more efficient and comprehensive study of C. elegans mating behaviours, which in turn can provide insights into soil pollution.

On advancements in Computer Vision, the research, according to the Nigerian Scientist, Hilary, will contribute to the advancement of computer vision technologies by adapting and modifying world-class deep learning algorithms like YOLOv8 and DeepSORT. Also, the development of a modified DeepSORT which improves its tracking accuracy, raises the bar for further research in computer vision as well as explores the use of the Segment Anything Model (SAM) to improve the DeepSORT’s tracking accuracy.

Speaking on the breakthrough of his student, the Vice Chancellor, Mountain Top University (MTU), where Hillary obtained his First degree in Computer Science, Professor Elijah Adebowale Ayolabi said MTU, a faith-based institution deeply committed to research and innovation, tutor their students to be solution providers through groundbreaking research projects that address contemporary issues.

He added that the institution remains steadfast in providing a comprehensive education that develops the intellectual, spiritual and entrepreneurial competencies of its students.

The VC said that at MTU, students are trained to rise up with boldness and the grace of God with a view to solving myriads of challenges bedevilling the country and world at large.

Ayolabi said  MTU has constantly been producing morally sound and academically excellent hardworking graduates, who are well equipped with the vocational skills to be self-independent and be employers of labour since its inception.

His words, “Our graduates have been shining examples of the vision of MTU, wherever they find themselves across the world.  They are focused on life with integrity and determined to make society better than they met it. Likewise, MTU has achieved recognition as the top-ranked institution in Nigeria and gained global recognition for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4—Quality Education, as assessed by the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking. • Mothers and Nation Building

    Mothers and Nation Building

    • By Henry O. Adelegan

As the world observes the solemn season of Lent, a time of reflection, repentance, and renewal, it is also an opportunity to reevaluate the role of mothers in shaping the moral fabric of society, as the world celebrates motherhood globally, on Sunday, 30th March 2025. A nation is only as strong as its families, and families, in turn, are molded by the hands of mothers. When mothers embrace their divine responsibility, they raise children who contribute positively to their communities. Conversely, when this role is neglected, the result is a society plagued with lawlessness, indiscipline, and poor leadership.

The Bible presents a striking example in Matthew 20:20-21, where Salome, the mother of James and John, approached Jesus with a bold request for her sons to have positions of honor in His kingdom. While her request may seem ambitious, it highlights a key truth—she was deeply invested in the future of her children. In contrast, many other mothers of the disciples remain unnamed, suggesting a passive approach to their children’s spiritual and moral development. This begs the question: are today’s mothers fully engaged in shaping the destiny of their children?

Throughout history, strong, faith-filled women have played crucial roles in their families and society. Today, more than ever, mothers must rise and reclaim their divine mandate. Where are the Ruths, who showed unwavering loyalty and love to their families? Where are the Jochebeds, who sacrificed everything to ensure their children’s divine purpose was fulfilled? Where are the Esthers, who risked their own safety to stand in the gap for their people? The Bible calls mothers to be more than caregivers; they are to be role models of faith, humility, and righteousness. As 1 Timothy 4:12 and Titus 2:3-4 remind us, a mother’s influence extends beyond her home—it impacts the moral direction of society.

A godly mother does more than provide food and shelter—she intentionally instills values that will guide her children for life. This Lenten season is a time for reflection on the role of mothers in raising the next generation. The Bible instructs parents to train up a child in the way he should go (Proverbs 22:6). Mothers must take an active role in shaping their children’s character by teaching them responsibility, discipline, and the value of hard work. They must encourage independence, ensuring children learn basic life skills such as cooking, cleaning, and time management. A mother should foster in her children a love for learning and a deep sense of purpose.

In today’s digital age, many children are shaped more by social media than by their parents. Mothers must be vigilant, knowing their children’s friends because association determines destination. They must monitor screen time, the content children consume, and the values being instilled in them, while also teaching them to prioritize faith, morality, and respect for others. More importantly, they must guide their children in developing a strong relationship with God, encouraging patience, kindness, humility, and service, and setting a personal example of righteousness.

Discipline is not punishment; it is guidance. A mother who corrects her children in love is shaping them for a better future. Proverbs 22:15 and 23:13 emphasize the importance of discipline in molding character. Family values and boundaries must be set early, as Proverbs 1:8 and 6:20 instruct. Respect for elders, diligence, and integrity must be taught from childhood. While being loving and nurturing, mothers must also be firm disciplinarians who instill self-control and accountability in their children.

Mothers must also be watchful and discerning. The world today is filled with many influences—both good and bad. As 2 Timothy 3:1-4 warns, we are living in perilous times. Mothers must be cautious about whom they entrust their children to, being discerning about family members, domestic staff, and even religious figures. Teaching children wisdom and discretion is essential, as Jeremiah 17:5-6 reminds us.

While this message calls mothers to action, it also reminds children and husbands of their duty to appreciate the sacrifices of mothers. Too often, society waits until a mother has passed away before recognizing her contributions. Beautiful eulogies and grand funeral ceremonies cannot replace the love and care that should be shown while she is still alive. A mother who is honored in her lifetime is filled with joy and continues to bless her children. Instead of waiting for funerals to celebrate them, families should express love and gratitude while mothers are still alive, by providing for their needs, buying them gifts, and showing appreciation daily, not just on Mothering Sunday.

This Lenten season, let this message serve as a call to action. Mothers, arise! The destiny of our families, communities, and nation depends on you. Let us raise a generation of children who will be godly, disciplined, and purpose-driven. May God strengthen every mother to fulfill her divine role, and may our families reflect the values of faith, love, and righteousness.

•Prayer: Lord, give our mothers the wisdom and strength to fulfill their responsibilities. Give grace for them to raise a generation that honors You and makes our world a better place in Jesus’ name.

    Text: “…By the grace of God, I am what I am…” – 1 Corinthians 15:10

    Henry O. Adelegan

As we journey through this sacred season of Lent, we are reminded of the immeasurable power of God’s grace in our lives. The grace of God is what qualifies the unqualified, lifts the downtrodden to places of honor, and turns ordinary lives into extraordinary testimonies. When grace steps in, limitations are removed, and destinies are rewritten. Moses, despite his troubled past (Exodus 2:11-15), became a great leader when grace found him (Isaiah 60:15). Esther, a simple Jewish girl, was chosen to be queen in a foreign land because of divine grace. Joseph, though betrayed by his own brothers and imprisoned unjustly, rose to become Egypt’s Prime Minister without any formal qualification in governance (Genesis 41:40-44).

Grace is the divine advantage that changes lives. It breaks the cycle of suffering, strengthens the weak, restores broken relationships, and provides hope in times of despair. 1 Peter 5:10 reminds us, “The God of all grace, who has called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, shall make you perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.”

Without grace, human efforts amount to nothing. It is grace that makes the difference between struggle and success. Solomon, the wisest king, understood this when he declared in Ecclesiastes 9:11 that, “The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill, but time and chance happen to them all.” This “time and chance” is the grace of God in action.

When God’s grace is upon you, no obstacle can hinder your progress. His grace enables you to achieve what seems impossible and elevates you beyond human limitations. Psalm 127:1 reminds us, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain; unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.” This underscores the futility of human efforts without divine grace. It is grace that turns the rejected into the celebrated, transforms failures into testimonies, and brings restoration where there was loss. Jesus Himself declared in Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”When you prioritize God, His grace will manifest in your life, turning struggles into triumphs.

No matter what you are facing today—whether personal challenges, financial struggles, or national uncertainties—be encouraged. The grace of God will rewrite your story. It will lift you from obscurity to prominence and restore all that has been lost. Saul was a man with a dark past. He persecuted the early church with zeal until he encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus. That divine encounter changed his identity from Saul the persecutor to Paul the Apostle (Acts 9:1-19). Paul later declared in 1 Corinthians 15:10 that his success was not by his own merit but by the grace of God.

In the same way, God’s grace can locate you, transform your life, and position you for greatness. I declare that the grace of God will speak for you in every area of your life. Nigeria will rise again. Our leaders will receive divine wisdom to govern rightly, and the nation’s past glory will be restored in the name of Jesus Christ.

During this season of Lent, let us surrender ourselves fully to God’s grace. Seek His forgiveness, accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and commit to walking in His ways. Forget past failures, remain steadfast in your faith, and press forward toward God’s purpose for your life. As you do, His grace will change the course of your life, elevate you to new heights, and make you a living testimony of His goodness in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

Prayer: Oh Lord, let Your grace change the game of my life for Your glory, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

  • The Potency of the Word of God

The Potency of the Word of God

Text: “Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?” – Ecclesiastes 8:4

    By Henry O. Adelegan

As we journey through this sacred season of Lent, we are reminded of the incredible power that words hold. Words shape destinies, transform lives, and influence the course of families and nations. The Bible teaches us that words, whether spoken in faith or in fear, have the ability to create spiritual altars that shape our reality (James 3:5-6).

However, no word is more powerful than the Word of God. When declared in faith, God’s Word has the ability to override every negative pronouncement, break limitations, and bring about divine restoration. A striking example is found in the story of the Shunammite woman. Though she faced the devastating loss of her son, she refused to accept defeat. Instead, she clung to God’s promise that “it shall be well”—and indeed, her son was restored to life (2 Kings 4:18-31). Today, I declare by the power of God’s Word that whatever has been lost or broken in your life will be fully restored in the name of Jesus Christ . What you need to do is to put your trust in His promises, for His Word is unshakable and His power is limitless.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the challenges around you? Are you discouraged by the state of the nation—whether in the economy, security, or opportunities? Perhaps you are even considering leaving the country in search of a better future. Let me encourage you: the words you speak can shape your world. Instead of despair, choose to declare God’s promises over your life and over our nation. Speak life, not defeat. Confess faith, not fear. Believe that Nigeria will rise again, that our economy will be restored, and that peace will return. As children of God, we must resist joining the voices of hopelessness and instead stand on the power of His Word.

King Solomon, a man of great wisdom and authority, understood the power of words. As a ruler, his decrees were final—no one could question them. He declared in Ecclesiastes 8:4, “Where the word of a king is, there is power.” If earthly kings have such authority, how much more the King of Kings? The Almighty God has the power to overturn human decrees, change impossible situations, and establish His will. Lamentations 3:37 reminds us, “Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass, when the Lord has not commanded it?”

Our God is the ultimate authority. He lifts up and brings down. He makes the poor rich and raises the humble to honor (1 Samuel 2:6-8). When He speaks, mountains move, valleys rise, and rough places are made smooth. His Word is final, and it never fails. God has given us the key to living in His power: In Joshua 1:8, Scripture says that,  “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” – Joshua 1:8

A believer without the Word of God is like a soldier without a weapon—defenseless against the battles of life. To experience divine restoration and breakthrough, we must make God’s Word our daily confession. Speak what God has said, not just what you see. Walk by faith, not by sight.

During this season of Lent, I invite you to draw closer to Jesus. If you have not yet accepted Him as your Lord and Savior, this is the time to surrender. Trust in His power to transform your life, restore what has been lost, and lead you into His perfect plan. As you do, I declare that you will rise above every negative word spoken over you. No power of darkness will prevail against you, and you will testify to God’s faithfulness in Jesus’ name.

•Prayer: Lord, let the power of Your Word work in my life. Restore all that has been lost and lead me in Your perfect will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  • The power of praise (2)

    The power of praise (2)

In the Christian journey, the concept of restoration—returning to a state of wholeness and divine favor—is a recurring theme. Scripture offers profound insights into how believers can experience this restoration, particularly through the act of praise.

During Lent, believers often engage in self-examination, repentance, and spiritual disciplines to draw closer to God. Traditionally, this involves abstaining from certain luxuries or habits, symbolizing a form of sacrifice that mirrors Christ’s journey into the desert for 40 days.   However, beyond these practices, incorporating praise into one’s daily routine can serve as a powerful catalyst for spiritual renewal and restoration.

Praise, defined as the expression of gratitude and reverence toward God, holds transformative power in the life of a believer. It shifts focus from personal struggles to divine sovereignty, fostering a deeper connection with the Creator. Engaging in genuine praise can restore clarity in one’s identity and purpose, infuse strength, and silence negative influences.

Praise is more than just singing hymns or verbal declarations; it is a profound expression of faith and acknowledgment of God’s sovereignty. When believers engage in genuine praise, they invite God’s presence into their circumstances, creating an environment ripe for transformation. Psalm 22:3 reminds us that God inhabits the praises of His people, indicating that our worship draws Him near, allowing His power to operate freely in our lives.

The Scriptures provide profound examples of praise leading to restoration. In the Gospel of John, Jesus stands before the tomb of Lazarus, who had been dead for four days. Before performing the miracle of raising Lazarus, Jesus offers thanks to the Father, demonstrating the power of gratitude and praise even in seemingly hopeless situations. This act not only restored Lazarus’s life but also renewed the faith of those who witnessed it (John 11:28-44)

Similarly, in the book of Acts, Paul and Silas, imprisoned for their faith, chose to pray and sing hymns to God. Their unwavering praise amidst adversity led to a divine intervention: an earthquake that opened the prison doors and unshackled their chains. This narrative illustrates that praise can lead to liberation and transformation, even in the direst circumstances.

Text: Acts 16:25-26 ……Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God ……….. doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose..

    By Henry Adelegan

As we journey through Lent—a 40-day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and culminates at sundown on Holy Thursday  , we are invited to reflect deeply on our spiritual lives and our relationship with God. This period calls for introspection, repentance, and a renewed commitment to our faith.

The story of Paul and Silas, as recounted in Acts 16:25-26, offers profound insights into the power of praise during trying times. Despite being unjustly imprisoned, they chose to pray and sing hymns to God. Their unwavering faith amidst adversity led to a miraculous earthquake that shook the prison’s foundations, opened all doors, and loosened everyone’s chains. This narrative underscores a pivotal truth: praise is a powerful spiritual practice that can lead to liberation and transformation. It serves as a gateway to restoration, enabling believers to rise above their circumstances and experience divine intervention.

In our contemporary lives, this principle remains relevant. When faced with challenges—be it personal struggles, societal injustices, or global crises—shifting our focus from the problem to the Provider through praise can lead to unexpected breakthroughs. Such an attitude not only uplifts our spirits but also aligns us with a higher perspective, enabling us to navigate difficulties with grace and hope.

Moreover, the act of praising amidst adversity serves as a testament to others. In the case of Paul and Silas, their fellow prisoners listened to their hymns, witnessing firsthand the power of unwavering faith. Our expressions of praise can similarly inspire and influence those around us, fostering a ripple effect of faith and resilience.

During Lent, while certain expressions of joy, such as the word “Alleluia,” are traditionally set aside to foster a spirit of penitence  , the essence of praise remains integral to our spiritual discipline. Praise, in this context, is not merely about outward expressions but about cultivating a heart posture that acknowledges God’s sovereignty and goodness, even in challenging times.

Beloved in Christ,  Praise is a command by God to every living being (Psalm 150:6). Praise is not focussing on happenings, praise is spotlighting God’s faithfulness and relying on the efficacy of the Scriptures. Praise is concentrating on the integrity of God and the insight received about His integrity. The Psalmist in Psalm 22:3 says that “God inhabits the praises of His people”. When God sees genuine praises, He brings heaven down and when heaven comes down, all natural powers, laws and restrictions are suspended.

St. Francis of Assisi exemplified this attitude by seeking to identify completely with God, offering the most complete praise possible through both actions and a deep, mystical connection with the Divine.  Incorporating praise into our Lenten journey aligns us with this tradition, preparing us for the promise of reclamation, restoration, and redemption that Easter heralds. It transforms our focus from our struggles to God’s enduring mercy and love.

As we continue through this sacred season, let us embrace praise as a pathway to spiritual renewal. By doing so, we open ourselves to the transformative power of God’s grace, leading us toward full restoration and a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him. Please note that whatever you are going through at such a time cannot withstand the praise. When you praise God, mindless of whatever you are passing through, there shall be divine intervention and your challenges will turn into testimonies in the name of Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Lord, accept my sacrifice of praise and guide me toward spiritual renewal and awesome testimonies during this Lenten season in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
