MFM marks 30th anniversary at headquarters

The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) has clocked thirty years.

In celebrating the grace, glory, and manifestation of God’s power and abundance in the Ministry, the weekly crowd-pulling Manna Water Service was held to thank and praise God.

The day witnessed the General Overseer of MFM worldwide, Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, dancing joyously and heartily on the altar, to the admiration of worshippers, who thronged the service.

At some point, Olukoya invited the three assistant general overseers present at the service, Pastors Kehinde Adegbolahan, Gbesan Adebambo, and Abiodun Ladejola, to join him by the pulpit and the quartet held hands, danced, and rejoiced in the Lord, as members watched with glee and surprise.

Speaking briefly before the Thanksgiving celebrations started, the General Overseer gave a brief history of the location, now known as the MFM International Headquarters, according to him, the piece of land, with which the Ministry started its international headquarters, was discovered by his mechanic (who later became a member and is today, a pastor in the Church), who informed him that the plot was up for sale, in 1994.

According to Olukoya, the landlord was asking for N120,000 for the plot, whereas, his salary where he worked then, at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Yaba, was less than N300 per month. However, he said “God raised a sister, who did not know that we wanted to buy land, to pay for the land. The sister had sold something and brought exactly N120,000 as her tithe and we bought the land, which is Auditorium A with the money.”

Amidst cheers and praises to God, the avowed man of God told the eager worshippers that the Ministry was celebrating thirty years of kingdom expansion; of kingdom spread; thirty years of destinies being restored; of promotion. “There are people here, who can confirm that without MFM, they would have been dead. We are celebrating thirty years of rescuing men and women from the mouths of lions. Here people are getting married; people are receiving mysterious promotions.”

MFM has increased the voltage of prayers in Christendom, among other good things the Lord has used the Ministry to do in the lives of His people, Olukoya noted, as he added, “Because of these, we are going to praise God today,” and really, it was praise galore, as different praise teams took time to lead the praises, to which the worshippers sweated it out, dancing heartily.

The General Overseer also disclosed that the monthly crowd-pulling programme, Power Must Change Hands, will be 30 years old too next year. He urged the excited worshippers to relax and wait for the bigger celebration of the Ministry, which is the 35th-anniversary ceremony, coming up in August this year.

  • Young ministers no longer willing to wait on God –Archbishop Ojo

Young ministers no longer willing to wait on God –Archbishop Ojo

Joseph Ojo, the Founder and General Overseer Calvary Kingdom Church (CKC) International, Lagos, who celebrated his 75th birthday last weekend speaks to ADEOLA OGUNLADE on some of his striking moments in the ministry, especially his relationship with the Church of God Mission, and  the state of the nation, among other things

You have been around for a while and you are still doing well, what is the secret of your longevity?

Only God knows the secrets. I’m just walking under the grace of God. That’s true.  I don’t even think 75 is too old. I want to be older and older.  I can’t go for 75. I’m trusting God, I’ll be strong and healthy enough to still do more for the kingdom. You know when you read the Bible, it says, “tell your children and let them tell their children’s children.”  Any generation that doesn’t have a link will leak. Only a link can connect past to present and to future.  So, I’m praying that God should enable me to be a link between the past, the present, and the future.  That’s what longevity does. There are people who cannot talk about what happened in 1970 because they were not there.  If they are going to talk to you about what happened in 1970, it’s a transfer of knowledge. They were not there. When they were going to choose somebody to replace Judas Iscariot, Matthias was chosen. He had been around from the day that Jesus began to teach. Look for somebody that has been there. Not the one that just came.

When you left the Church of God Mission, did you see the future?

Future? Faith sees the future. Unbelief sees the future hopelessness. If you have faith, you have a future. That’s true. Now faith is the evidence of things not seen. That’s true. What you see today is what you have seen in the spirit realm. If you can’t see it, you can’t have it. That’s exactly what’s displayed between Elijah and Elisha. You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you can see it, you can have it. Before that young man, Elijah took the mantle; he had seen it in the spirit. If not, when the mantle fell, he would have attached any importance to it.  He asked for a double portion of his spirit. Nobody would have understood that the double portion was in the mantle. But, because he had seen it in the spirit, he knew when the mantle fell. He didn’t hand over the mantle.  I said it before. I’ll say it again. Only foolish people think that mantles of leadership are handed over. No, it falls, and that was the last message I preached at the CGM convention. The last convention Papa had with us, November 1997. At that convention at Faith Arena in Benin, we had guests from America, from different places all over the world.  Our guest ministers had spoken; then he said; let the senior ministers begin to bring the word, Osa Oni was there. They called me to bring my word. I said to them, turn with me to 2 Kings 2. “I took hold of the mantle that fell from Elijah. I went to the river bank and shouted, “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?”  I said to them, mantles are not handed over – mantles fall. I said, let nobody here think that the mantle of leadership will be given to him. I said, leaders, don’t give up the mantle; mantle falls. Elisha took hold of the mantle that fell, and I said, someday the mantle will fall – if you grab it, it’s not sweet. I said, look at the cherry. If you throw a stone to pluck cherry, it never ripens; it’s not sweet. Five, ten minutes, I was done.  They asked one bishop from America, I forgot his name now, to preach after.  He said, no, no, no, this microphone is too hot. They asked Osa-Oni, he’s there. I asked him to come and pray. Osa-Oni said the microphone was too hot. The others came and took the microphone. Yes, he said it’s too hot because the atmosphere was charged. I can say I was the last pastor that preached in the convention that was outside.  And what I preached was outside the dream. I hope you understand, three months later, three months later – this was in November, and Papa died in March.

What are your hopes and dreams for the future, and what are the new things you wish to accomplish?

To be able to surpass whatever God has used me to surpass.  That’s all. When I’m talking about surpassing, it shouldn’t be measured or equated with material things. You know something? God didn’t tell Joshua in the scripture that there are more cathedrals to builth. He said there are still lives to cover. I believe there are still countries and places that God is opening doors. This year already, I have an open door for a big crusade in Zambia in October. From there, I’m sure there’s going to be other conventions. Even before then. So, you see, there are many more lines. So, I believe at this age, there will be more lines, more opportunities for me to extend the kingdom of God. That is true.

Lastly, what advice do you have for your pastors and bishops?

My advice to them is, if they can still, at this time, wait on God and hear from God; but most young pastors today don’t have that discipline of waiting for God, and on God. So, like English people say, they jump the gun. They go ahead of God.  If you don’t go ahead of God, then definitely you’ll be in the way of God. It’s for them to learn to wait on God; it may be rough today – it doesn’t have to be rough forever.

Secondly, you must not, for anything, use man as your standard. Let God give you a standard because if you use man as your standard, you may not be able to meet up with the things that stabilize Him. They may be too high for you for now. Life in the ministry is like the ladder, You have to take it one step after the other. So, that’s my advice to them.

They should take ministry step by step. You cannot look for level three. You cannot even claim level one or two. The Ministry has levels; some have sold the things they have; sold the little they have here to buy a ticket to travel to America and never came back. Some of them are there, washing plates in restaurants. Shame would not allow them to come back home. But if you take it step by step, you will still go to America.  Allow God.

In his message, the Presiding Bishop, Living Waters of Life Church, Victor Esezobor said the awards were not paid for but received through service.

The bishop quoted copiously from the book of Romans 2:5-10 with particular reference to verses 6 and 7, saying men are honoured by God as a recognition for their services to God and humanity.

Speaking further, the cleric said “Honour is recognition of the importance of a person’s morally upright lifestyle and success,” and described an award as a token of praise or respect bestowed on morally accomplished men or women.

He, therefore, admonished all present to be patient in every service they are rendering because they will one day be remembered for God is not unrighteous to forget a man’s labour of love.

A Nigerian gospel artiste, Tosin Bee has revealed in an interview that it was not his intention to become a gospel artiste.

He explained that like every other artiste, he has had his challenges in the ministry, including having the right environment “for growth in my field and also financial challenges.”

Tosin Bee explained that although it was not his childhood dream to become a minister, the gift had been there as an innate ability, which he developed.

“As I grow, I realise my calling is to use the singing gift that I have as an instrument of worship to God, and also for the kingdom agenda of gospel propagation.

He described his genre of gospel music as a fusion of tungba/alujo music (African percussion music known among the Yoruba in Southwest, Nigeria) and contemporary gospel. “I have a strong background in both genres of music so I merged them and created a style unique to me.”

Place women in politics and see changes, says Pastor Olayinka

Wife of the General Overseer of the Kingdom of Glory International Church, Pastor Oluwatosin Olayinka-Ajibs, has affirmed that when women are placed in the governing policies of Nigeria, there would be changes in the country.

She made this statement on Thursday while preaching at Confluence 2024, a 3-day program organized by the church, held at Noble Castle, Igando, Lagos State.

The programme’s theme was tagged “Daughter You Are Healed”, taking their text from “Mark 5:25.”

She said: “Even if a woman is not married, we have a motherhood act, and the way we handle homes is the same way we would handle society, we ensure that everybody is taken care of, even the husband is taken care of like a child, the children are taken care of, even when the woman is afar, not in the house, you see how she is still in the house taking of things, so it’s the same way if a woman is in politics we will enact laws that will help, male, women, children, that we see it happening in Rwanda right now, so it will be good if we start considering women in politics in Nigeria “

She also urged women who as a result of the society find themselves in dysfunction homes to be filled with the wisdom of God and direct them in their actions

“My advice to women in dysfunctional homes is that they go for wisdom, the Bible says that wisdom is the principal thing, and besides that it is by wisdom you build home, so wisdom is lacking, wisdom is not just knowing what to do, is it how to get it done and get a result, so what women are lacking out there is that wisdom.

“Confluence 2024 is a 3-day convergence of both women and men, young and old, bringing people to the healing power of Jesus Christ, Pastor Tosin Olayinka-Ajibs said.

Adeboye to Nigerians: Renew your relationship with God

The General Overseer, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Worldwide, Pastor Adejare Adeboye has called on Nigerians to renew their relationship with God with a view to living a very rich and fulfilled life that God designed for them.

Adeboye, yesterday, during the monthly thanksgiving service at the RCCG headquarters, The Throne of Grace, Ebute-Metta gave the admonition where he spoke on ‘Renewed like Eagles,’ with prayers for all fathers, mothers, single parents, widows, widowers, children and youth with their families.

“It is preposterous for anyone who wants to live a quality and sustainable life to get connected to God just like it is imperative for any electrical equipment to keep on connecting with a socket with electricity for it to continue functioning.

Read Also: Abiodun hails Adeboye as exceptional leader

“Immediately such equipment is detached from the electricity, it loses the potency of functionality. If it is hot, the hotness will start going down until it becomes cold as it was before it was plugged into the socket with electricity.  In the same vein, any human being that is detached from God will never make it, because God is the power (the electricity) that sustains man. This is the reason every Nigerian should renew his relationship with God to live a meaningful life,” he said.

He explained that the word ‘Renewal’ means making something new again, adding that when one renews his or her relationship with God, the individual’s lost joy, health, hope, and anointing among others will be renewed and restored.

He disclosed that the process of renewal includes repairing, replacing, or complete overhauling which God can effect with His sovereign power.

He reiterated that when someone is renewed, such an individual becomes mentally, spiritually, and emotionally balanced.

  • ‘My life as an African pastor in Malaysia’

‘My life as an African pastor in Malaysia’

At the Koinional Experience of the Fair Havens Kingdom Center, The Senior Pastor of the church, Pastor Christian Chukwuekesia spoke to Adeola Ogunlade on his missionary journey to Malaysia, his triumphs and lessons for missionaries in difficult countries.

    Journey to Malaysia

Pastor Tunde Bakare is my spiritual father and I was in a service one day, and he began to prophesy that the banks would fail. I was then working in a bank. I asked myself since the pastor had prophesied that banks would fail, what was I doing there? I had a plan to go for my postgraduate studies, and I was concerned about which country I should go to where I would be receiving the same message I have been receiving from Pastor Bakare. I recalled that his best friend was Pastor Jonathan David. That was why I chose Malaysia so that what I could not get because I was away, I could get in Malaysia, and I chose the country. We went there and when it was time, God told us to pioneer something in the capital city. What led me to Malaysia was my postgraduate studies but business opened up there for me because you cannot be idle. From there, the ministry also opened.

13 years in Malaysia as an African pastor, what was it like in a Muslim-dominated country?

It was not easy. The way we serve God freely is not the same in Malaysia. There were some restrictions. You couldn’t go and canvas people, the majority is Muslims. We had the Chinese and India. It was not easy, but God helped us to build something tangible. When we started, the first challenge was to get people out of the street to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives. We started Kingdom Business School to tell them that people can harness good business opportunities instead of getting involved in illegal activities and tarnishing the image of their nation.

As we started, the changes were transformational and we lost most of our members. We did not lose them because they died but we lost them when they heard the gospel message, and we opened their eyes through the grace of God to discover good business opportunities back home, and they left. We raised them, and they disappeared. It was painful but we liked it. It was a strategy from God to scatter them in different locations to make a difference for God. My first Personal Assistant now lives in Australia and is a phone call away. Anything that will be done by grace will take a lot of effort and sacrifice. We slept in church, disciplined the people, and every Friday, we had a meeting called Destiny Night. It was a tough one because Friday in Malaysia is a day when people go to clubs. Some who were supposed to go clubbing would come and attend the programme. These were the strategies God gave us to win souls and change lives so that they could fulfil God’s purpose for their lives.

Through the Kingdom Business School, there were prostitutes whose lives were changed, and destitute taken off the street and were empowered to be self-employed. The Kingdom Business School helped those who did not have skills, empowered and integrated them into the kingdom. We have taken men off the street and made them a voice to reckon with.

What lesson should missionaries learn from missions in difficult countries?

In nations that are so difficult, my candid advice is that you must be sure that God is sending you, and you must have the skills because skills will give access to integrate yourself into society. Missionaries should not go to difficult countries with the aim of planting churches. We must go there as professionals if we are going to make a huge impact in those countries. Paul was able to succeed within the Asia continent because, in every territory that he went to, he mingled with the marketplace. There was a threshold he created for them. If you have a business skill and you are ready to trade with it, it will be easy for them to accept. I am going to Saudi Arabia and as an Engineer; I will be accepted because I am bringing something to help develop their country. Going to the people to give you bread and butter does not make sense. If God is sending you to Asia and you are praying for money, money is not their problem but if you go with the message of the kingdom with requisite skills, your impact will be huge.

When God told you to come back home? How was it?

It was a lot of struggle. The first time God told me to come back to Africa, it was not easy but we have learned to obey God. The Bible says to obey is better than sacrifice.  In a bid to be sure we heard from God, we spoke to Pastor Bakare who responded by saying that we had given enough to that nation, it was time to come back home. We also went to meet with his friend in Malaysia, Rev Jonathan who confirmed the leading of God for us to return home. He told us as soon as we got back home, we should pioneer a new work. We are back and we have seen the reasons God said that we should come back home. We are reaching out to an army of youths. We are focusing on disciplining men for greater exploits here on earth and preparing them for heaven.

  • Why we are focusing on the youths – Foursquare GO

Why we are focusing on the youths – Foursquare GO

Over the week, over 1, 971 delegates from 178 Districts of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria re-affirmed Rev Sam Aboyeji as its General Overseer for another five years. Aboyeji in an interview with ADEOLA OGUNLADE spoke about the challenges, success, why the church adopts elections to elect its leaders, and his commitment toward raising a new generation of God’s army for the end-time evangelism.

Congratulations on your reaffirmation as the GO of Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria. What are your projections for the new tenure?

I want to thank God for today. It is only God that can do it.  Our first term was challenging. COVID-19 was one of the challenges we encountered. We came into office in November and COVID-19 struck in February 2020, but God helped us. There were other distractions associated with taking off of the new administration.  When we were taking off, a lot of forces were trying to keep me on the ground. You have fought your way through to take off, and when you take off, most times, you are on auto-fly. That is the way I will classify my first term. By the grace of God, in the first term, we did not allow distractions, in the second term; distraction would have no place in our administration.

Are you saying you are satisfied with the first term?

No, not necessarily, it is good that we have a second term, so whatever needs to be perfected, we will perfect them. As I speak to you there are parts of the vision that some have not bought into in the fifth year and we were just lamenting that if they had bought into it, we would have gone very far. For instance, the Grand Assembly Project, some are just buying into it. We are spending millions to plant those churches for our youths which is not in tune with our normal tradition of planting churches. If you know us, we are a very conservative church. When we go out for evangelism and we have to gather the people and disciple them, the place of worship can come later. When we came in, our approach was to secure a place of worship first in a very conspicuous place and put in all the equipment so that it could attract young people. It was in our fourth and fifth years that some of our leaders started buying into it.

What were the challenges you went through in your first tenure?

We had so many. Anyone who confesses Christ must go through one challenge or the other. The first challenge we had was COVID and God helped us. We were always on air live for two hours every Sunday, 9-11 am for 18 months until we were allowed to hold full services. I was preaching and there were sessions of prayers. There were challenges of skepticism. I was the first GO in the history of the church that was selected from outside Lagos and the strength of the church is in Lagos and Southeast. At that point, God needs to help you and you need to prove yourself. They voted for me then and the election in my first tenure was not as overwhelming. Also, some of the visions God gave me did not go in line with the tradition. For instance, the emphasis on youths, this is a church where the majority of our ministers are elderly. So, the first reaction was that I wanted to displace them. God had to give us another idea to balance this.

Today, all our pastors are medically insured. Any of our pastors can walk into any hospital of their choice and get treated under our insurance package. Those are parts of the ways we managed it. We also introduce parting gifts to our pastors who are retiring. We also train pastors when they are about to retire. Five years before retirement, our pastors go through training that prepares them for retirement. All these were put in place to solve the problem of our ticking toward young people. Some distractions wanted to take us off point, but we had to keep fighting.

The early Apostles were appointed after prayers were made, while election in Foursquare?

I have asked the International President of the church, Rev Randy Remington too and his response was that the way God works is that anything you tell God to use to speak to you, he will use. He uses what he thinks you will associate with. Before the game at all, everybody knows the rules and we will take it to God.  To the glory of God, I have heard several times that the person we wanted from God to lead is the one that eventually emerged. Like this re-election, we have been praying to God for weeks that we will not miss the very will of God on this matter. That is why the church is still an example in this country. The church is one that  you can lay your hand on our audited financial statements every year. It is even available. That goes to every of our churches, the pastor is accountable to the members. It is only in spiritual matters that you are the head but when it comes to financial matters, there are people who are better than you in the congregation and they should have a say. God wanted Moses to build the Tabernacle, and God told him to go and meet Bezalel from the tribe of Judah and Oholiab from the tribe of Dan whom God had given rare talent, intelligence, and ability for the construction.   The church will be a better place when pastors give the people what should be their responsibility.

     Why focus on Youths?

One day, I had a cheque to catch, and I had to go to the bank. I took the cheque and I saw a crowd, and as a pastor of my status, I thought, I could see a member who could help me with the cheque to catch quickly. God did not allow me to see anyone. I saw young people everywhere. I went to Abuja and stood by the roadside and the people I saw were largely young people. God began to tell me that if you are going to be an effective minister of the gospel in Nigeria, these are the people to preach to while we are not neglecting the old too. That is why the project Foursquare NextGen came up. My wife and I were opportune to visit Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, where the founder of Foursquare Gospel Church was born. It was a big community with a museum built in her honour. Unfortunately, that week they wanted to sell the Salvation Army building where she was based. So, we were forced to ask the person in charge of the museum what happened. He brought out an album and, in the album, we saw that the people in the album were old people except a few persons carrying babies, and he said that these were the last event that happened in that church and as soon as the people died, the church closed down. That inspired me to pay more attention to the next generation. We are not ignoring the old but research states that if you preach to children in their teens, they are not likely to go back to the world. Many of our church leaders today started their ministry in their 20s. Today, the trend is changing, we want to salvage the next generation to the path of Christ.
