Rights group, Campaign for Democracy (CD), has protested the alleged killing of Igbo youths by security agencies.
Also, CD urged the Federal Government to release unconditionally the National Coordinator of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe.
The protesters, who marched from Upper Iweka to Awka Road in Onitsha, Anambra State, carried placards with various inscriptions, such as: “Our sons are languishing in detention without trial” and “Release Igbo youths now, CD tells Fed Govt”.
Addressing reporters yesterday during the protest, cd’S National Publicity Secretary, Dede Uzor Dede, expressed concern about the non-conduct of election into Anambra Central Senatorial District.
He said: “The protest is on the recent killings of unharmed Igbo youths and the non-conduct of election in Anambra Central Senatorial District and other parts of the country.
“This organisation is not happy with the development. So, we decided to embark on the protest to show the world that we want the Federal Government to look into the issues.”
Dede urged the Federal Government to constitute a panel of enquiry to investigate the circumstances that led to the alleged killings of the youths.
Those killed, the CD spokesman said, were on a peaceful demonstration for the realisation of Biafra.
He also bemoaned the recent arrest and detention of Onwudiwe without charging him to court to defend himself.
He said: “Statistics shows that more than 800 Igbo youths agitating for their rights are in detention in different prisons without trial, while about 6,000 others have allegedly been killed.
“Our position is that the Federal Government should either arraign or release them unconditionally, if there are no cases against them.”
