KWARA north senatorial district in Kwara state yesterday pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to appoint an indigene of the area as minister in his about-to-be-formed cabinet. Kwara northerners under the aegis of Kwara North Initiative Pioneers (KNYIP) also prevailed on the state Governor AbdulRaman Abdulrazaq to cede the state’s ministerial seat to the district.

The move according to the group would ensure equity, justice fairness for their people. KNYIP President, Na’Allah Badamasi, told reporters in Ilorin, the state capital, adding the zone “is the most backward in the areas of social and infrastructure development among the three senatorial districts in the state.

“This call becomes necessary considering the fact that the two senatorial districts of Kwara Central and South produced the two ministers on the same platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) throughout the eight years of former President Muhammadu Buhari. The two ministers are Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Senator Gbemisola Saraki.

“The consideration of the Kwara north for ministerial appointment becomes imperative when we also consider the huge turnout of votes from the zone in the last general elections.Consideration of the zone for ministerial appointment would in no small measure bridge the gap of high unemployment rate, social amenities and infrastructure deficit in the zone.”
