Cerebral palsy centre gets mobility aids

Rotary Club

Rotary Club of Lagos, District 9110, has donated mobility aids to Benola, a cerebral palsy initiative.

The club said the project was made possible through its United States partner.

Items donated are wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, specialty walkers, and orthotics.

Benola is the third organisation to get such equipment from the club after National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, and Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Club President, Joseph Akhigbe, said the club seeks to impact the quality of lives of those with mobility problems.

Founder of Benola Palsy Initiative, Air Vice Marshall Femi Gbadebo, hailed Rotary for the donation.

He said the number of those in need of these devices is huge. Many live with disabilities, and people with cerebral palsy are about 80,000.

Air Vice Marshall Gbadebo noted that this mobility aid helps because as the children get older, their parents also get older, so lifting them or carrying them within the home becomes a problem.

“But with this equipment, even if it is just to move them with the chair or use a chair to move them from room to room or something, you are saving them a lot of wear and tear,” he said.
