Our challenges, by TASUED VC

Eleven years after it was established, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State, has declared that the institution is not only meeting its core mandate of producing quality teachers for the nation’s education sector, but also inching closer to becoming globally competitive among the 21st century universities.

It, however, listed fund for staff payment and employment of staff in departments with critical needs, building of a befitting convocation arena and provision of additional lecture halls and science laboratories, as well cultism and anti-social behaviour as the challenges facing the pioneer education varsity in Nigeria and said they could impede her capacity to effectively meet her vision if not addressed.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade, who made this known at the institution’s 8th Convocation, also appealed to the Ogun State Government not to relent in supporting the university.

Mrs Obilade said 1,586 of the graduates were from the 2015/2016 session, and 567 for 2014/2015(part time), including 22 PostGraduate Diploma and 86 Masters students.

She announced that the overall best graduating student for the 2015/16 session, Miss Funmilayo Odukomaiya, would be retained by the university to encourage and reward excellence as well as retain the best in TASUED.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun was represented by the Deputy Governor, Princess Yetunde Onanuga, at the event.
