Charley Boy’s opinion doesn’t represent all Igbos, – Ogunjiofor

Charley Boy

VETERAN actor and filmmaker, Okey Ogunjiofor has berated those who have misconstrued Charley Boy’s political statement as representing the position of ndigbo.

“It is very unfortunate how we indulge in ethnic profiling at the drop of the hat in this country most especially when we claim or want to be seen to be neutral and detrabilized.

I find it difficult to see how Charlie Boy’s personal comment can be construed to represent the voice of all Igbo against the Yoruba. Are we implying that any Yoruba that airs any personal opinion against the Igbo is speaking on behalf of all Yoruba?”

Ogunjiofor, fondly called Paulo, in his submission wondered why it is hard to appreciate the fact that individuals are wired differently and as such should be expected to act and react differently to any given situation.

“Why is it hard for us to appreciate the fact that individuals are wired differently and as such should be expected to act and react differently to any given situation? I have said this before and I want to say it again. In every contestation especially politics there are bound to be factions and divides because politics is a game of ideological convictions based on individual or independent identities. ”

He also advised that politics should be seen for what it is – a game of wits and words without resorting to violence, bitterness, hate, blanket verbal attacks and divisive comments.
