The Bishop, Diocese of Remo, Methodist Church Nigeria, Revd. Titus Ilori Omoniyi has urged youths to build strong relationships before going into marriage.
He regretted the rate at which marriages crash these days, saying the cause was not far from lack of prayer, tolerance and pride on the part of the couples.
The Bishop spoke through one of the Circuit Ministers, Rev. M. O. Ososona at the wedding ceremony between Oluwatoyin Abinfoluwa, daughter of Ota Divisional Commander of Vehicle Inspection Officer, Paul Kehinde Osukoya and her husband Jamiu Oyekunle Adelaja, an Engineer.
The cleric advised the youth to understand the rudiments of building a strong relationship before getting married.
Reeling off some of the rudiments for successful marriage, the cleric said: “Prayer, tolerance, adequate respect, total submission, support and humility are crucial.”
The Bishop advise the couple to establish good communication among themselves, chatting, playing, singing, praying together and abstaining from turning themselves to punching bags.
He urged husband and wife to always have the spirit of forgiveness, faithfulness, subject to each other’s idea, learn how to say sorry to each other and always have sexual intercourse.
The event was witnessed by top government officials, Chief Vehicle Inspection Officers both serving and retired, service chiefs of all safety and security agencies, social groups, traditional rulers/chiefs, political stalwarts, captains of industry and other dignitaries from across the country.
The wedding began around 10:00 a.m. with songs of praises by the church choir. The congregation was ecstatic as the bride’s father ushered in his daughter with the assistance of best men, best ladies, little brides, confetti and flour girls.
Abinfoluwa gazed into Oyekunle’s eyes wondering how shiny her soul mate was.
The couple promised to ensure that the union succeeded.
The bride’s father, Engineer Osukoya thanked everybody that came to identify and rejoiced with the newly wedded couple. He advised the couple to abstain from allowing third party’s intervention into their marriage.
He urged them to always maintain peace, tolerate each other, shun violence, be a partner in progress and allow God to be the pillar of their marriage.
