Cleric urges FG to institutionalize moral values

The Senior Pastor of PRAISE ARENA – Kingdom Light Christian Centre, Pastor Jummy Adetoyese-Olagunju has urged the federal government to put in place institutional mechanism that will help in enforcing moral ethics and selfless service across public and private sector in Nigeria.

Adetoyese said this ahead of the Church Special Praise Night holding on Friday in commemoration of the Easter Celebration at Le-Real Hotel, VGC, Lagos.

According to him, the spate of inequality, corruption, nepotism and inequity, and all forms of criminality has eaten deep into the moral fabrics of Nigerians and can only be addressed when we promote and institutionalize the right value system that everyone can key into.

“the effort of the federal government in fighting corruption through the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has made some giant stride in recent past, but corruption goes beyond financial improprieties. It is a problem of wrong values that the people hold and exhibit in their daily lives” he said.

“it is worrisome that the past administration has boasted to have made some efforts in fighting corruption but surprisingly it’s still very much with us. Even the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo affirms recently that corruption is still very much within the system though they are making some effort to stem the tide”.

“many public office holders entrusted with public funds enrich themselves and members of their families with public funds and they leave the people that they are leading in penury, abject poverty and untold frustration. There is a need for sustainable mechanism and infrastructure that would help in facilitating transparency and selfless service driven by the federal government and sold to Nigerians is imminent.

On the coming Easter Celebration, the preacher said it will continue to be a mere rituals and jamboree if it does not exemplify the values of sacrifice, love and honesty that Jesus truly represent.

“Jesus Christ, though sinless gave up himself and position to save mankind from the impeding doom and eternal debt that man owed because of sin and disobedient to God’s commands. Sin came through the disobedient of the first Adam but was reverse by Jesus; the last Adam through his death and resurrection gave mankind hope as they receive him into their lives”.

“We can experience peace and exhibit selfless love in our nation when we embrace the sacrifice that Christ has made and key into the requirements of salvation which include confessing our sin, forsaking them and asking God for grace to live for him”.

“The church will make an indelible ink in the sand of time if the Easter season is used to preach and remember the poor and the downtrodden in our society. I can imagine the church standing at the gate of Prisons across the country to the waiting hand of prisoners who are set free and are ready to give the ex-convicts a new lease of life”.
