THe Federal Government has said the collapsed Tatabu Bridge in Niger State, which is being rebuilt for N2.5 billion, will be ready next month.
The bridge will get an extra 250 and 200 metres access road from both ends.
The bridge, located on the Tegina-Mokwa-Jebba route, collapsed last year.
Minister of State for Power Works and Housing II, Hassan Zarma, during an inspection yesterday, attributed the collapse to heavy vehicles plying the road, and poor maintenance culture.
He maintained that the project is part of the Federal Government’s commitment to fixing infrastructure decay.
CGC Project Manager Nil Yong promised that the bridge will be delivered on time, saying the project was 83.33 per cent complete.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Ibrahim Balarabe, who received the minister, lauded the government for the repairs.
But he appealed to the Federal Government to come up with laws restricting overloading on roads to preserve and extend their lifespan.
