Lagos State Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle, has urged pensioners to participate in the digital world, so as not to be left behind.

She gave the advice yesterday in Ikeja at the Lagos State Pensioners’ Week launching.

Ponnle, who implored pensioners to explore online applications and social media platforms to keep abreast of the happenings around them, said there was need for them to engage themselves in a way that would make life worth living for them.

The commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishments and Training, Dr. Abiodun Onayele, said the event was an avenue for the government to strengthen the bond with retirees/senior citizens and assured them that they were relevant in the public service and beyond.

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Lagos State chapter, Rev. Alexander Johnson, hailed the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration for coming up with schemes to ameliorate the condition of pensioners.

Head of Service (HoS)) Mr. Muri Okunola, represented by the Director of the Post Service Department, Mrs. Bukola Durodola, said his office had created opportunities to encourage retirees to be more active and explore new avenues for growth.

He said the programmes included a bi-monthly webinar on zoom to enlighten retirees about the management of their health, finances and general well-being, among others.
