Council holds budget retreat

The Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area of Lagos has held a Three-Day budget retreat at The Swiss International Hotel, Ajao Estate, Ikeja.

Tagged ‘Budget of Rethinking for Development Sustainability,’ the participants led by the council chairman, managements staff, and Heads of Departmental/Unit, deliberated on moving the council forward.

Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA Dr. Funmilayo Akande-Muhammed reiterated her call for people-oriented projects.

These, she said, would have lasting positive effects on the populace.

She canvassed an increase in revenue generation to implement more projects.

The council boss thanked the management, legislators and staff for their cooperation towards her successful first term in office.

She solicited their cooperation for the new term, saying her goal was to surpass previous achievements.

Awards were given to outstanding personalities in the council.

In his lecture, a don from Caleb University Olanrewaju Agoro said local government should be administered in the best interest of the local community.

According to him, due process must be strictly followed in governance and contract awards to avoid over expenditure.

Agoro stated that the construction of drains, bridges, housing, and road network should be handled by local contractors with emphasis on quality, supervision and evaluation.

“Attention must be given to programmes geared towards empowering the people of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA. I want to loudly appreciate the Chairman here for her 100 days in office. Her empowerment programmes were robust and life-changing,” he said.
