A traditional ruler, Ikanrede Akeem, has been convicted by a Magistrate’s Court in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, for assault resulting in harm and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
Ikanrede, who is the Baale of Olobi Itoko – Titun, Abeokuta, was also found guilty of leading suspected thugs to eject workers on the property of an accountant, Nurudeen Ayorinde.
Also convicted for the same offences are Sakiru Olamilekan, a driver, and Odebiyi Nofiu.
In the suit, the trio were accused of committing the offences on August 22, last year, at Olobi Village, Abeokuta.
During their trial before Magistrate E. A. Adekunte, many witnesses, including Dr Badmus Tajudeen, a doctor at the State Hospital, Sokenu, Abeokuta, who treated one of the victims, testified.
In a copy of the judgment obtained by The Nation, despite the argument of the defence counsel that the prosecution failed to prove its case , the court found them guilty.
Following pleas for leniency, the court sentenced Baale Akeem Ikanrede, Sakiru Olamilekan and Odebiyi Nofiu to one year imprisonment or N20,000 fine.
