Cross River to employ 1,000 teachers

Ayade ’s critic docked for social media comments

The Chairman of the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Stephen Odey, said yesterday that they had conducted an aptitude test to employ 1,000 primary school teachers.

Addressing reporters in Calabar, he said the exercise, held at the weekend, was successful.

Odey said: “I was involved in the exercise. The board members and management were also involved. University lecturers assisted.

“Nobody, including my humble self, knows anybody that wrote the exam. Even if my relations sat for the test, I don’t know because nobody wrote his or her name on the answer script. The candidates wrote their numbers.”

He said following the approval of Governor Ben Ayade, the board would take over the payment of primary school teachers’ salaries, to address disparity in payment.

“With this development, the teachers will get their salaries regularly from next month.”
