A former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel has said the Aare Ona Kakanfo-designate, Otunba Gani Adams, is the greatest man in his generation.
Daniel spoke at his Asoludero home at Sagamu in Ogun State when he hosted Adams.
The former governor described the Aare Ona Kakanfo-designate as someone he shares similar ideological views with, especially in the emancipation of the Yoruba.
“I welcome you to Asoludero, your second home. I want to specially congratulate you. I am happy with the decision of Iku Baba Yeye, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adey¹mi, who many don’t know I have a special relationship with as a close friend of my late father. It is not misplaced he made you the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba.
“I have come to see you as a very principled man who does not worship money. I have seen you rubbish people with money over your principled stand. I have not seen a greater Yoruba man in your generation. You have galvanised our people through the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and lately Oodua Progressive Union (OPU), now in 79 countries. You have become a phenomenon, a perfect example of a self-made man. We are for you, come rain, come shine and in the day and at night.”
Adams expressed appreciation to Daniel for being good to him.
According to him, the position of Aare Ona Kakanfo is non-partisan and he will have to relate with all Yoruba sons and daughters, irrespective of their political affiliation.
Adams said it would be a great disservice to Daniel if he (Adams) did not visit him.
The Aare Ona Kakanfo-designate described the former governor as a true son of Oduduwa.
He said: “In 2005, when I was arrested and detained, he took the risk to visit me in detention, as a sitting governor with the then Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Sunday Ehindero, who he urged to ensure that I should not be maltreated before being taken to court.”
