The final of the 18th edition of the Doregos inter-school basketball championship will be without serial and perennial winners and many of the known names for their usual outstanding performances could not make it to the final of the championship slated for February 16.
Roniks College will be contesting for double after their boys’ and girls’ teams booked a spot in the finals.
Roniks boy made their intention to play in the final known from the blast of the whistle in their semifinal as they dominated play to beat Phidel College by 31 to 20 points while host Doregos could not match the firing power of the Dansol boys who defeated them 36 to 21 points in an intriguing encounter to set a date with Roniks.
In the girls’ semifinal, Roniks girls out-powered Doregos 20-4 points while the girls’ defending champions Topfield college ran riot against their opponent Phidel College with a resounding 30-8 points.
The organiser of the championship in its 18th edition said with the standard exhibited by the schools in the finals in their various games en-route the final; they are expecting fireworks and the very best of school basketball games.
This year’s finals for the first time will be taken away from its usual place to a new ultra-modern court of Doregos Private Academy’s new site in Ayobo Ipaja.
