To permanently put an end to the lingering petrol scarcity in the country, the National Chairman of Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), a branch of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Comrade Salimon Oladiti, has urged the federal government to decentralise the Apapa Atlas Cove to the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) depot in Mosinmi depot, Sagamu.

This measure, Oladiti says, would guarantee the supply of petroleum products to Ibadan and Ejigbo depot.

Oladiti, who spoke with journalists at his office in Ibadan over the weekend, said it had been a herculean task for tanker drivers loading fuel at the Apapa depot, adding that it takes up to four days before a truck can load.

According to him, the Apapa Atlas Cove was previously decentralisesd in 2009, an experiment he said was successful.

He added, “We have been advising the government to secure Atlas Cove under system 2B to NNPC Mosinmi depot in Sagamu. This would enable Mosinmi depot to pump fuel to Ejigbo, Ibadan, and Ilorin.”

The PTD boss lamented that discharging of petroleum products at Apapa depot is very strenuous for tanker drivers before they secure access into the depot.
