Delta 2020: slow pace of work worries Okowa

Ifeanyi-Okowa

Delta Sate Governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has expressed concern over the slow pace of work at Stephen Keshi Stadium venue of the 21st National Sport Festival billed to hold in Delta state.

Okowa, who spoke with reporters yesterday in Asaba, said the festival would hold between November 28 and December 10 urged the contractors to deliver the projects before Nov. 18.

Okowa said having inspected work done by the contractor, he is worried at the pace of work and urged the contractors to move much faster.

He said he had been reassured that by 18th November facilities would be ready, adding :”so, I am going to hold them to their word.

“I expect the local organising committee to give me daily reports on their progress and ensure that they meet the time.

“We cannot afford to move the sports festival further because as you move, you will be moving it into Christmas period which is not a good time to travel.”

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work, but insisted that the contractors must apply more speed to ensure prompt completion.

On team Delta’s preparation for the sports festival, Governor Okowa said that the state was always prepared and would emerge champions.

“We are ever prepared and we have always won and we will still win again, so we are not worried about that,” Okowa added.
