Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has sworn in five commissioners with a call on them to promote the ideals and vision of his administration’s Restoration Agenda.
A statement yesterday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said the governor inaugurated the commissioners at the new Executive Council Chambers of Government House in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Dickson called on the appointees to exhibit a high sense of dedication and loyalty in the discharge of their duties.
The commissioners are: Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu (Health); Austin Dressman, Ijaw National Affairs and Culture; Ebiere Musa, Tourism and Development; Mrs. Martha Jenakumo, Women Affairs and Mr. Tamunobere Oguoh, Heads of Special Duties, West Senatorial District.
The governor described Etebu as a thorough-bred medical professional and one-time Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa.
He said the professor’s antecedents were exemplary.
Dickson urged him to streamline the massive investments his administration made in the sector.
The governor said the state had established world-class health facilities, including the diagnostic centre equipped with a forensic unit.
He added that by next year, the government would build and equip health centres in each of the 105 wards in the state to take healthcare delivery closer to rural dwellers.
Dickson said: “We want to have the best facilities in all spheres. Very soon, we are going to be the Number One in agriculture, sports, education. Now, we want to be Number One in medical tourism. With the facilities we are going to put in place, we will have a situation where no Bayelsa resident will need to travel out for healthcare. Not only that: we want all Nigerians and people from other places to come to Bayelsa for healthcare services.”
