There is disquiet in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, as leaders and aspirants for National and State Assembly tickets have had their hopes dashed by Governor Seyi Makinde’s decision to return most serving legislators.
For over three months now, aspirants for the three senatorial seats, 17 House of Representatives seats and the 32 seats in the House of Assembly have been mounting pressure on party leaders and Governor Makinde for the tickets.
The governor has adopted consensus model for its primary, but with a caveat that an elective primary will hold in a few constituencies where stakeholders fail to agree on consensus candidates.
Makinde met with party leaders twice in the last two weeks during which he directed them to hold talks with all stakeholders and adopt consensus arrangement to pick candidates among aspirants.
It was learnt that the governor, however, expressed his support for four of the serving House of Representatives members, leaving out Ajibola Muraina. The three-time lawmaker is among aggrieved leaders criticising Makinde. He is representing Ibarapa North/Ibarapa Central Federal Constituency.
