Head of Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Adepoju Tejumaiye, has urged Master’s graduate of Irsbaccom University, Benin Republic, to deploy their knowledge to tackle and defeat insecurity in the nation.
He gave this charge in Lagos at the weekend during the 16th induction ceremony of the International Institute of Professional Security (IIPS) and convocation ceremony for Master’s students of Irsbaccom University.
The ceremony was facilitated by the IIPS.
The university awarded Master’s degree in ‘Security management and strategy’ to 62 students.
Tejumaiye urged them to put what they have learnt to proper use to improve the security situation of the country.
“There is need for proper security in the country. Ensure you defeat insecurity. Deploy what you have learnt for the betterment of the society.
Go and make positive changes to the security infrastructure of the nation.Also ensure you uphold the ethics of the security profession,” he said.
The don said: “You must uphold the ethics of the security profession,have respect for human beings,be vigilant and be current about societal issues.”
Managing Director of International Masters Security System, Col. Abayomi Dare (retd), who was given a honorary doctorate degree, noted that everyone must do everything possible to protect and shield the nation.
He also thanked the institute for the degree.
Earlier, Director-General IIPS, Dr Tony Ofoyetan called on the graduates to proffer solutions to country’s security challenges.
He urged them to be good ambassadors of the institute.
“You have to maintain the reputation of the institute in your future professional endeavours,” he said.
