Lagos State Commissioner for Finance Dr. Rabiu Olowo has said people should not discriminate against those with disabilities.
He said: “People we see living with one ailment or the other are as vibrant and brilliant as able-bodied people. If given the opportunity, they will prove themselves…”
Olowo urged those with disabilities to stop begging, noting: “It is a taboo to beg, especially among the Yoruba.”
He spoke at 2022 Sustainability Fund Programme for the aged and people with disability, organised by Kehinde Oshilaja Foundation in Lagos.
The commissioner, represented by Mr. Yusuf Lateef, his personal assistant, advised people to appreciate those living with disabilities.
He urged clerics to assist the less privileged, “because government alone cannot do all.”
Olowo hailed the foundation for sustaining its programme of seeking help.
He gave money to assist three visually-impaired men to further their education.
They are Segun Adeshina, Samad Ashaqa, and Riliwan Babalola.
Coordinator of the foundation, Oshilaja, thanked the commissioner for the assistance, promising to utilise the fund well.
