‘Don’t hurry the boy-child into adulthood’

A Mother’s Love Initiative (AMLi), a Non-Governmental Organisation, has reiterated that children, especially the boy-child, should not be hurried into adulthood.

The Chief Executive Officer of AMLi, Hanatu Enwemadu, said this could have negative impacts on the home, society and even the boy himself.

At an event to celebrate the 2022 Father’s Day, Enwemadu stressed that the boy-child should be domesticated just like the girl so ‘he doesn’t feel entitled’.

She said: “…the boy-child is hurried through childhood and into adulthood, and that impact is what we are seeing in our society today.

“A boy-child should be domesticated because they are already feeling entitled. Parents need to step up their game; we need to be physically present. The economy is stuck without a doubt but we cannot take out the part of the parent in the life of a child. There are lot of things parent always do, so I encourage the parents to please create time for their children because these boys, the children, are the future.”

Father and actor Nobert Young also harped on the need to ensure the boy-child is domesticated. Young lamented that women always think boys are important than girls in the society, and so are not comfortable if they don’t have a boy-child.

“Just the way you bring up your girl-child, bring up a boy-child like that. He should do chores. He should grow up thinking about the home instead of staying out all day playing football. He should stay at home and learn the politics and economics of the home like the girls are being taught.

“We should also start changing the narrative of women becoming jittery when they are yet to have boys because they feel the boy-child is more important than the girls. Mothers should not raise boys as superior to the girls,” he said.
