Thirty-one schools from Lagos and Ogun states will compete for honours at the 17th Doregos Inter-School basketball competition, which dunks off in four zones on October 30, the organisers of the event have stated.
Hosts Doregos Private Academy, Ipaja will host zone one preliminary games while International School Lagos (ISL), Kawefunmi Secondary school, Sagamu, and Effortwill Academy will host zone two, three, and four respectively.
The quarter-finals and semi-finals are slated for November 6, 2021, and January 15, 2022.
Head of school, Doregos Private Academy, Adebisi Adegbulugbe, urged the participating teams to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship during the event, adding that covid-19 protocols have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free championship.
“The Doregos Inter-School basketball is a grassroots event meant to discover talents and encourage them to excel globally. It is not a do-or-die affair, we encourage the schools to put in their best and let the skills of the teams speak for them,” Adegbulugbe stated.
He explained that the tournament did not hold last year as a result of COVID-19 , adding all protocols against the spread of the virus will be adhered strictly to this term.
The tournament which is for boys and girls, began in 2005, with the ISL boys’ team being the most successful side, winning the title a record eight times.
