Following the Super Eagles 2-0 win over the Mena of Niger Republic yesterday at the Adokiye Amesiamaka stadium in what was the team’s first win under new coach, Sunday Oliseh, ex international, Sam Sodje has called on the gaffer to give the team a face by sticking with this set of players rather than inviting new ones in subsequent matches.
Sodje believes Nigeria played better in Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over Niger Republic than when they played a 0-0 draw in Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania.
The Super Eagles got the lead through Ahmed Musa’s penalty before Moses Simon doubled the lead five minutes to the end game.
According to Sodje, the team improved on their performance against the Menas but frowned at the Eagles inability to hold on to possession against a team like Niger Republic.
“It is always good to have that first win under your belt as a new manager and you can see how excited Oliseh was after the game,” Sodje told Goal.
“Wasn’t the best of games but was a better result. They just couldn’t hold on to possession of the ball and dictate the game especially playing against an opposition like Niger.
“Super Eagles were poor but hopefully when they have a face and know one another better that will improve. At the moment, I’m more concerned that the Super Eagles need a face and I just hope Oliseh gives the team a face.”
“In the 80s, 90s and early part of 2000 every one knew who the Super Eagles was and the players kind of knew who they were going to be playing with,” he concluded.
