The Police in Ikwo on Friday repelled an attack by gunmen in Ịkwọ Local Government Area (LGA) of Ebonyi State.
One of the gunmen is believed to have been shot dead during the gun battle.
The Nation learnt that a police officer was injured and is in critical condition at a hospital.
The gunmen were said to have attacked the Policemen who were attached to a construction company working in the area.
Details of the incident were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report but a source said the incident happened at Omege Noyo.

The gunmen were said to have attacked the Policemen but the policemen engaged them in a shootout.
Police spokesperson, Loveth Odah confirmed the incident but noted that she was yet to get full details of what happened.
She reiterated that the Police are however on the trail of the attackers and expressed hope that they would soon be apprehended.
The attack happened the same day that unknown gunmen attacked and killed a member of the Ebubeagu security outfit in the state.
