RIVERS United coach, Stanley Eguma is optimistic about their chances against Sudanese El Merreikh as they file out today in the first leg round of 16 play of the CAF Champions League.
He said the ‘Pride of Rivers’ will come out in flying colours.
“Agreed El Merreikh may have the pedigree of winning so many titles in Sudan but playing on the continent is a different ball game and football, we all know is not mathematics,” Eguma told CAFOnline.com
“We are not in this competition just for the fun of it and we are not only looking at the coming fixtures against Merreikh, rather our focus is to win the trophy at the end of the day,” explained Eguma who led the defunct Dolphins to Nigerian version of the FA Cup in 2001.
Eguma said his side is well motivated for the encounter against the Omdurman-based club complete with Nigerian duo of Kunle Odunlami and former Dolphins striker, Kelechi Osunwa.
