Members of the Ekiti State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), on Friday, elected a new executive council with Rotimi Ojomoyela of the Correspondents’ chapel emerging as chairman. According to the results announced by NUJ Zone ‘B’ Vice President, Mr. Cosmas Oni, Ojomoyela, of the Vanguard Newspapers, polled 156 votes to defeat his opponent, Rotimi Feyisina, of the State Information chapel, who obtained 22 votes.
The post of vice chairman went to Ronke Samo of the Nigeria Orientation Agency (NOA) chapel who garnered 145 votes to beat Yemisi Omotola of the Federal Information chapel who got 24 votes. Kayode Babatuyi of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) polled 153 votes to emerge as the new secretary. He defeated Akinwale Olaoye of the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES), who scored 24 votes.
The posts of treasurer and financial secretary went to Michael Olaleye of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) and Mr. Remi Adegoke of the Local Government chapel respectively. The new officials were sworn in immediately after the poll. In his acceptance speech, Ojomoyela vowed to wage war against quacks and pursue better welfare for journalists in the state. He said: “With this victory, I want to assure you that I bear my allegiance to all members and I shall work very hard to ensure that quacks have no room to operate in Ekiti.”
