Ekiti places residents on alert over Antrax outbreak

Ekiti State Government has placed residents on red alert, following the outbreak of Antrax, a deadly disease that affects humans and animals.

The Commissioner for Health, Oyebanji Filani and Special Adviser for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, gave the red alert in a statement jointly signed yesterday in Ado-Ekiti.

They said the alert followed the outbreak of Anthrax in the country and the need for the residents to take preventive measures against the disease.

They advised residents to adhere to preventive measures put in place against Anthrax, describing it as a life-threatening disease, which presents symptoms such as cough, painless sores after fever, and muscle aches.

Filani and Boluwade said if the disease was not diagnosed and treated promptly, it could lead to severe complications, including pneumonia, respiratory problems, shock and even death.

They urged the residents to intensify vaccination, ensure proper disposal of infected animals and avoid consumption of ponmo, smoked meat and bush meat.
