Ekiti State Chairman of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) Rotimi Agbede has been charged at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court with fighting with another union member at the police headquarters.
Police prosecutor Oriyomi Akinwale said Agbede was arraigned with Olaoye Oba.
Oba reported the RTEAN boss at the Police Headquarters on December 23.
The RTEAN chair, who is an ally of Governor Ayo Fayose, has been “quarrelling” with Oba, who is a supporter of an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Femi Bamisile.
Oba had petitioned the police, accusing Agbede of spearheading attacks on APC members and other RTEAN members who are Bamisile’s supporters, after a political meeting on December 23.
Agbede pleaded not guilty. His lawyer, Tajudeen Lamidi, urged the court to admit him to bail on liberal terms, considering his status in the society.
The Chief Magistrate, Idowu Ayenimo, admitted the duo to bail of N20,000 with one surety each.
He adjourned the case till January 20 for further hearing.
