EKOEXCEL celebrates women, girls in science

Female beneficiaries of EKOEXCEL, an initiative to transform public education using innovative technology, have hailed the power of science and affirmed their interests in becoming scientists.

The pupils spoke as the world marks the 2022 International Day of Women and Girls in Science today.

The theme of this year’s event is:

‘Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: Water Unites Us’, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 of ensuring access to water and sanitation for all.

Speaking about their love for science, the pupils hailed its transformational impact and benefits to humanity.

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, first marked in 2015,  aims to amplify the critical role women and girls can play in science and technology.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu launched the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board’s (LASUBEB’s) EKOEXCEL in 2019 to provide quality education for the rich and the poor. Highlighting EKOEXCEL’s efforts to promote inclusive education for all genders and encourage female interest in science, LASUBEB’s Executive Chairman Wahab Alawiye-King said: “EKOEXCEL harnesses innovation and science to improve pupils and teachers in Lagos’ public schools. So encouraging females to study science is a priority to us.”
