Super Eagles Assistant Coach, William Troost-Ekong is in a race against time to feature in Nigeria’s second 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe after the defender was stretched out injured in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Sierra Leone in Abuja.

Ekong was replaced in the 80th  minute by Kenneth Omeruo who took over the captain’s armband after he copped a suspected groin injury.

The Watford FC defender paired Semilogo Ajayi in the central defence and the Watford star had played 63 games for the Super Eagles with four goals and one assist since his debut in 2015 under the late coach Stephen Keshi.
