A 30-year-old electrician, Randy Biayeibo, who allegedly jumped the fence of a school to steal notebooks, was on Tuesday remanded in prison by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The Magistrate, Mrs Y.O Ekogbulu, remanded the accused in Kirikiri Prison, pending sentence on the next date of adjournment.

Biayebo, who resides at Ipodo Street, Ikeja, is facing a charge of stealing and had confessed to the crime, pleading for mercy.

The prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, said the accused committed the offence on Oct. 20, at Ikeja, Lagos.

He said that the accused stole 41 pieces of notebooks valued at N6,150, property of Anifowoshe Primary School, Ikeja, Lagos.

Okuoimose said that the accused jumped the school fence to get into the premises and steal.

“The accused came in the night, scaled the fence to gain access into the school, and stole the books.

“He was arrested by security guards when he jumped out after the theft,’’ the prosecutor said.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Section prescribes a three-year jail term as penalty for stealing.
