Enugu CJ discharges three inmates

Enugu State Chief Judge Justice Priscilla Emehelu has discharged three inmates unconditionally and granted bail to 15 others during her visit to Nsukka Prisons.

She advised the discharged inmates to be of good behaviour and avoid anything that will bring them back.

To those granted bail on liberal terms, Emehelu urged them to ensure they perfect their bail so that they will come to court from home.

“I have discharged three inmates unconditionally and granted 15 bail on liberal conditions as a way of expediting justice.

“Those discharged should be of good behaviour and avoid anything that will bring them back to prison.

“Those granted bail on liberal conditions should perfect their bail so that they will be going to court from their homes,’’ she said.

The chief judge, however, expressed concern that some inmates her predecessor granted bail and some she granted bail in Enugu Prisons on July 10 were yet to fulfil their bail conditions.

“I urge their relations to come forward and fulfil the bail conditions so that they will be released,” she said.

The chief judge enjoined judiciary officers and lawyers to expedite action to ensure cases are disposed within a reasonable time.

She said the state judiciary plans to start holding special court sessions in prisons to ensure quick dispensation of justice.

Arinze Onogwu and Augustine Ogbodo, among those discharged unconditionally, thanked God for using the chief judge to rescue them.

They promised to be of good behaviour and avoid anything that will make them commit crime.

“I thank God for showing me mercy today. I promise I will never commit crime again, “ Onogwu said.

“ From today till my death, I will worship God and be a good citizen of this country,” Ogbodo said.
