The Enugu State Executive Council (Exco) has approved the award of contract for the rehabilitation of 18.5-kilometre Federal Government road on the Opi-Obollo Afor.

It also approved additional work on Amalla and 9th Mile internal roads – from Ekochin Junction-Mechanic Village, measuring 2.5 kilometres.

The contract was awarded to Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) Nigeria Limited for N1,356,587,804.56.

Addressing reporters at the Government House in Enugu after the Exco meeting, Information Commissioner Godwin Udeuhele said the contract was consistent with the government’s commitment to improve the lives of the residents by creating an enabling environment for safe and smooth transportation, especially during the forthcoming Yuletide.

The commissioner said the council also approved the kick-off of 25 other roads as well as buildings and water projects in the 17 local government areas as from October 15.

According to him, the Exco approved the upgrade of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu to a degree-awarding institution to meet the state’s educational, socio-political and economic needs.

Udeuhele said: “In line with this decision, the council directed the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Miletus Eze, to draft a bill to be forwarded to the House of Assembly for necessary action.”
