Influential Akwa United skipper, Ubong Friday will miss the Promise Keepers next two league games including today’s blockbuster tie with Enyimba in Aba as a result of injury.
Friday was substituted in Akwa United’s 2-0 home loss to Bendel Insurance after suffering a leg injury that required stitches and the team’s captain is expected to also miss their away tie with Nasarawa United in Jos this weekend.
Akwa United head coach, Ayodeji Ayeni told journalists in Aba on the eve of their league tie with Enyimba that the team doctor is working round the clock to get him fit for their Matchday 4 tie with Plateau United on January 28th, 2023.
“It is a big disappointed to me because Ubong Friday is a leader but he had a serious injury against Insurance,” Ayeni told journalists. “He injured his left leg and it even required stitches. We have to rest him and make sure he is okay before our next home.”
Akwa United started the season poorly losing 2-0 to Bendel Insurance in Uyo but are in Aba to rescue their season in their fixture with Enyimba today.
