Etisalat’s scholarship for AAUA students

TEN best students of Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State have been offered scholarship by Etisalat Nigeria, a mobile telecommunication firm. The beneficiaries were given N100,000 each, including certificates.

Territory Manager (South West) of Etisalat, Mr Oluwaseun Popoola, said the beneficiaries were selected based on their academic performance.

He said the award was in line with Etisalat’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in education, adding that the firm also supports youths in sports and healthcare initiatives.

He hailed the university management for supporting the telecommunication company to boost excellence. Popoola said the school was part of the 20 universities selected by Etisalat as centres for academic excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, described the scholarship as deserving, saying it was a show of responsibility by Etisalat. He praised the telecommunication firm for choosing the university to be part of the 20 beneficiaries of the scholarship.

The VC, represented by his deputy for Administration, Prof Francis Oyebade, said education remained the important for national development, urging for more support from other multinational companies operating in the country.

He said: “Etisalat is part of corporate organisations operating in Nigeria that have lived up to their responsibility in terms of supporting education and giving scholarship. We urge other multinational organisations to create this kind of opportunity for our youths to move the nation forward.”

A beneficiary, Mayowa Odewoye, a 300-Level Business Administration, appreciated the gesture, saying it was a privilege for him to be considered for the scholarship. He promised to study hard to graduate with highest grade.
